Dennis, those are the crazy price increases I'm seeing here in S. CA desert. I think Restaurant owners are starting to get scared. I don't think they will be able to keep raising prices much longer without losing their customers. When a couple of to go Wet Burritos cost 30 bucks then it's time to rethink eating out. You see a lot of working guys eating lunch around here and with gas approaching 5 bucks along with lunch everyday it's not going to be happening much longer.
As a side note my neighbor didn't receive her food stamps when expected so she called me out of food. Anyone else on here not receive them?
I don’t know which is more bothersome in your post!
The prices....OR the fact someone called you because they have NO FOOD?!!
Wow.

PG, there is a 3rd glaring "bothersome" in Terr's post: The fact that someone decided to name something a "Wet Burrito". I read that and my mental image was of a Stripes burrito that'd been dropped in a parking lot puddle. Then I got to thinking worse.... Nah, no 'wet burritos' for me.

She is almost completely handicapped. She won't be rioting anytime soon.

No, not this one, but still, somehow, she's been trained to call you when she's out of food and obviously/allegedly can't buy any for herself. Unless she called simply to complain about Uncle Sugar(?), but your post didn't sound that way. Sounded like, besides complaining, she wanted/expected you to do something about her being "out of food".

This lady? Might be fine to help out in a pinch, but times are still good. When they aren't, all of the people saying they are "out of food" won't be handicapped.

I guess it must be my Baptist upbringing doing me in. Mathew 25: 31-46

Agree completely. My wife and I have discussed this at length, and we may be compelled to make decisions that will keep us awake at night, but self-preservation is a strong instinct, and I'm not here to feed the neighbors.

Food stamps should be on her state FS card. Does she not have one for some reason? I'm thinking it's possibly a system screw-up? Hmmm, at any rate, you know she has them and hopefully can pay you back, but an odd thing like this, I would have given her some food too, to tide her over. Some people on here are really nasty. Whatever happened to love your neighbor?

Ran up to Walgreens last night.
Their soda aisle was almost entirely empty.
They had a few stragglers left of random 2 liter drinks but no coke, no Pepsi.... except three, 12 pk cans of Diet Coke left on the very bottom shelf in the back of the rack.
I should have grabbed one but they were 6.99$ and I was in a hurry.

One thing I just noticed checking inventory expiration dates in my preps. Kroger’s canned fruit with the peel off lids. Some with a year left to them have swollen on the tops and bottoms. Distinctly noticeable from others. The tin seems very thin. We just threw out about 8 cans that we would be afraid to eat. They were bought only a few months ago.

The name brand cans without the peel off lids look fine. No more off brand veggies and fruit.
We have noticed that the cans of fruit don't seem to keep long. We have also had problems with tomatoes eating through the cans.

My husband went to Aldi's here in central Illinois last night. He said they low or were out of many things. He called me kind of panicky. He mentioned to the stocker he came across that "the store sure is out of a lot of stuff", to which the stocker replied "We have been informed to expect 500 items out of stock next month."

As the National Hurricane Center is fond of saying just before landfall of a major hurricane, "....All preparations should be rushed to completion..."

It’s started, for sure now.
I do remember a post somewhere, stating from a member here, who had insider type info that October is the end of recent food delivery contracts and there would be none after.
To paraphrase.

I'll be making the trip to town Thursday in hopes of stuffing an Excursion. Back row seat out and middle row folded. Might drag a trailer. Probably not going back to town this year. Or next, if there's enough TP. I'm kinda OCD about them paper rolls ever since running out one time when I was young and stupid. Put it this way, I still have a yellow box of Sam's house brand, 45 rolls, good quality stuff, that I picked up for I think 9.99. (THAT's to show how long ago I got it, not bragging on scoring a sale!) Basically, when I can see that box, that's my 'warning' that I'm running low, and over the weekend I noticed a corner of it between the other packs. LMAO.

Our Aldi's in West Central Ohio was low also on many things. Toilet paper isle was bare same way at the Dollar General. DG was low, really low on foods.
Same here in N. E. Ohio. Both Aldie’s and Dollar General were low on stock.
My niece’s mother and I use muscle cream for arthritis that is normally sold at Dollar General . My niece went to 3 Dollar General stores and they were out. I called a fourth one and they were out.

Since 1999
Hadn't been to the store for about 3 weeks. Today was Walmart and Aldi day.

Walmart...produce looked great. Meat was low. Turkeys which they had less than a dozen were $1.48 a pound. There were no gallons of water of any kind. Very few cases of bottled water. Not much sugar or flour. Chip aisle was half empty. Mexican canned stuff and salsa was to the point of nonexistent. Pasta empty. Maybe 10 pkgs on the shelf. Same with spaghetti sauce. No pkgs of mac and cheese....wiped out. TP aisle half of it was completely empty. Prices up on everything I looked at.

Aldi... Better stocked than Walmart but there were obvious holes through out the store. Egg prices up 30 cents since last time I was there to $1.56. Meat up a lot. Ribeyes last time I was there was $12.99...today $15.99!! That just priced me out of buying them. Frozen meat was very low...lots of empty shelves all the way down the frozen aisle.

My eating patterns are changing because of prices. Still trying to stock a few things because I know it is only going to get worse or not available.

Just got back from Meijer in Richmond, IN.
LOW T.P. and paper towel and limits of 2 per person.
But what got my attention was in automotive/home there was very few cans of spray paint. No real colors left just tans and some specialty paint.

It’s been this way at our Meijer for a while. Back in June I bought a can of red spray chalk paint for a project I was working on. Turned out I needed a second can. It’s now almost November, and I still can’t find that second can. Not at Meijer or Home Depot or any of the hardware stores. They’ve all had signs up about the paint shortage.

I bought another 20 lbs of dry pasta at .49 a pound. I found all of the herbs and spices I was looking for, except celery seed (as someone else mentioned in a previous post). A couple of pounds of bacon (4.19 a pound) is all I use in a year. One pound for baked beans, and one pound for chicken corn chowder.

That's a large amount of items.

18 count eggs: $2.79/$1.79 = 1.56, or a 56% price increase in one year (1.558 rounded to 1.56)

Kroger butter: $3.29/$3.99 = 1.21, or a 21% price increase in one year

Damn!!

Craziest thing at Kroger, central Indiana area yesterday!
They had a large meat case with a ton of marked down/clearance lunch meats and cold cuts.... also large, 2 lb echrich keilbasa packs (5.99$! Reg 10$ !)

I got the sausage, (should go get more ) but no lunch meats because we really don’t eat those and they do not freeze well, or I would have. They were sort of off brands, so I wonder, if maybe they’d gotten stuck in shipping somewhere and close to the expiration date?

I mean, there were a lot of them all lined up, same brand, same turkey im pretty sure.

Stopped at a Dollar General this morning. They got a huge shipment in this morning. They have so many containers of merchandise that it was hard to walk down the aisles. If I get a chance tomorrow, I would love to stop in and see what kinds of things they got in.
