Boy you guys make out a whole lot better than I do. The prices here are insane plus they are out of all kinds of food.
I ordered from 2 different markets today. First market Stater Bros only had one frozen Macaroni, no stuffed peppers,
frozen food sad.
The other Vons was out of sight expensive. P l us only one chuck roast and one pkg of cube steaks. How can a super market have only one of these meats? 10.97 lb for 93/7 organic hamburger. The thing that got me laughing was 1.98 for the 3oz lime jello. And they only had one pkg.

Went to Walmart today and everything looked pretty good. Was able to get everything on my list and didn’t notice any huge price increases. Even saw some turkeys which I’m not sure how much normally costs my mom always got one…. Going to call her and see if she has room in her freezer and to pick one up for us

Did my curbside pickup today:

Kraft mayo- out of stock. I'm picky about my mayo so declined the sub they offered.

All in stock (Smith's Las Vegas, NV):
2 cream cheese (store brand, exp date of 4-2022)
M&M's :p:p
Bananas
Jalapenos
Poblano peppers
Romaine lettuce
Red onion
Buffalo chicken strips (frozen)
Ranch dressing
Green beans (4 can pack)
Bread (plain white)
Bacon 2 1# packs

My big splurge was a 1 pound block of hot pepper jack cheese for $8. I got that at Sprouts when I went to get jalapenos. Originally Smith's said they were out. Sprouts was out. Smith's ended up having them! Clearly we know what I like to eat and it usually has a kick!!

Just returned from the weekly shopping. Smith's in NE NV. I think this is the best I've seen it in a very long time. Almost everything was really well stocked--no front-facing--except for the lunchmeat. They had lots of cream cheese. I already had a bunch at home, but I just had to buy two more packages because of the chatter here. Bacon price increases finally hit--$5.99 for the cheap stuff. They had canning jars back, Still no canning lids, but that's the new normal. Absolutely no turkeys anywhere. I'm glad DH picked a Butterball up at WM a few weeks back. Oh, and they haven't had frozen tortellini in about 2 months. This week they finally filled in that spot. Maybe they don't plan on stocking it anymore.

I swear, this store is undergoing the slowest remodel I've ever seen. It's been over six weeks and they've only done part of the produce section and one aisle. Oh, and everybody that shops at this store is still eating their change. Most of the cashiers refuse to give any back. But HD and Cal Ranch don't have the same problem, and neither did the stores in UT last week.

At the local produce company that supplies the restaurants here, I overheard the owner/manager (not sure which she is, or if she is both) talking to a customer. She never gets everything she orders. She hasn't been able to get granola for months. I think she mentioned something else, but I can't remember what it was. And she says it's getting worse. Of course, you all know this. It's just another dot on the country-wide map.

I stopped at the meat store yesterday in my wanderings. Got 10lb of their awesome in-shop smoked bacon on special this week for $4.99/lb. Had the kid cut medium slice for me and then repackaged at home for the freezer. Also picked up their bacon wrapped pork rib eyes at 4/$10 for the grill, and sirloin tip roast at $4.49/lb...because it's roast season.

The local regional chain had nice pork short ribs for $2.49/lb so got a few bundles of them, some for the weekend, and some for the freezer.

Saved, to glorify God.
Here's you 100oz ( 100 packets) of crean cheese that will last 6 months ( or more) in the fridge and NEVER go moldy. i ordered it cuz i love it on dark rye bread! EVDRYBODY ELSE IS OUT OF STOCK OF THEM! it works out to about $.50 a packet with shipping. Get the packets, not the mini-cups because the cups are only 3/4 oz!

Walmart in Piedmont, NC today: stock is not bad considering what is stated in other parts of the country. There may be fewer of an item but there didn't seem to be zero stock of anything that I noticed. Lunchmeat seemed to be the least stocked. Turkeys were $1.48/# with perhaps 20 available. Bread flour was quite low but regular flour and sugar were well stocked. Even got some whole bean Eight o'Clock Columbian Peaks coffee. Sweeeeet. :-) I tried to look at others' carts. Didn't see a whole lot of overloaded carts which surprised me since the parking lot was really full for a Thursday.

Aldi, also in Piedmonth, NC: No lunchmeat or turkey of their usual brand. No whole milk...limited 2% in gallons. Bacon was $4.09/#. Loaf bread availability was zero...got the last of the hamburger and hot dog buns. There were the specialty breads like ciabatta rolls, English muffins, etc. No cat litter. Candy was spotty with no dark chocolate covered almonds...I wanted those. No usual brand of stuffing that had been 89 cents/box. They had Stove Top instead at $1.99 box. They had Butterball turkeys at $1.39/#. Went ahead and got one since there is talk of fewer available and employees getting first picks...and that's OK. They work hard...they deserve perks. Hamburger 73/27 was $2.99/#. Ribeye steaks were $15.99/#...had to pass on those. Flour and sugar were well stocked with good prices. Paper products were available, although not as many packages. No limit any of those. Fresh fruits and vegetables were in pretty good supply although the cucumbers were TINY! :-) Grape tomatoes looked awful but $1.59; organics were $2.89 and looked pretty good. Red grapes were $0.95/#. Apples were a little pricey but available.

Things are getting tighter, for sure. But, we're not starving and we can still purchase things. No need to complain.

The 20% price increases are definitely in effect. This time last year Wright’s 1.5 lb bacon was $9.99 and sometimes on sale for $7.99 at Meijer. But this week it shot up to $11.99. Doubt we’ll see those old prices ever again. Let’s see what it is this time next year.

Oh, and the only turkeys they had so far were $1.99 a lb, and only a few of them in the case.

It's almost worth the drive up there if there are no limits, too bad I don't have the freezer space.
I sometimes wonder how they do it on these bulk buys especially, but bacon is a staple to the average folk here, goes with everything, and this little mom & pop store does make a point of taking care of it's customers. I assume they have a deal with the company/processor, and bulk bacon is something most people wouldn't think about. I suspect a whole lot of the cost is in the packaging that goes to the regular retailers.

Oh..and they don't advertise a limit...I haven't bought bacon from them in a while, but with the boxes (I used to get 20lb boxes when they had them) it was "while it lasts". Never saw them not honor a sale..they usually had plenty.

When you order like that they just limit what you get and don't even have to say it. If you went to the store, chances are you could have got more...........if you could afford those prices.

I've been stopping at Fareway for fresh fruit, which has stayed stable or decreased in price. Apples were about a nickel cheaper. I haven't done a full shopping trip for several weeks. I'll be afraid to look at the prices when I do go.

I'm eating all of my previously prepared freezer meals in an attempt to get ready for the holidays. I'm heard that I might be gifted with a turkey and a small ham. If so, I'll need room for them. If not, I'll pick up whatever meat goes on sale after Halloween. If none, I'll buy a bunch of hamburger and make some casseroles for the freezer.

There was an article in one of the local papers where I live, front page story on the local grocery stores and how bad they're back ordered. Lot of processed foods like Oscar Mayer, etc are scarce. There are a few thin shelves in the stores around me. Dollar General is still out of my favorite taco sauce after 4 weeks.

Gas went up again. Now $3.60 a gallon. Ground beef went from $3.99 to $4.69 over night. I was lucky to score some free range, grass fed, organic beef from the local Mennonites for $4.99 a lb.

Hello Kiwibutterfly...................New Zealand is beautiful (not news to you) but it's sooooooo expensive...been watching YT NZ food hauls and lately mighty few have updated their channels.........blessings..

YES...I do live in a beautiful country....also I am very lucky to have a son and brother who hunt and fish and I have a great vegetable and berry garden. Petrol has gone up to about $2.60NZD a litre and I love being prepared, something I wish my family would do more of BUT they are slowly getting there. I live in the South Island and in the last few days we have just had our first Delta covid outbreak. Stay safe

Forgot to mention earlier, and was reminded because a few minutes ago I was packaging up some meat for the freezer:

When at the little whistle stop butcher shop this week, noticed that the guys were relegated to using what looked like brown craft paper to wrap meat. No white freezer paper in sight that day. I'm sure it wasn't just an "ambiance choice" or whatever, because the boyz warned me that it would leak, unlike coated freezer paper.

Got to thinking this morning, if they are having problems sourcing meat wrap, might be a good thing to put a couple more rolls of freezer paper on my list for next shopping trip. It gets sorta scarce this time of year anyway, because deer season is hard upon us, and a lot of folks still process their own at home, but just a thought to consider, and one of those little nagging warning lights.

You must be in a different part of the country. In Central Texas the white coated paper that's wrapped around meat is called butcher wrap, but we eat barbecue off the brown Kraft paper which is also called butcher wrap. The tray the barbecue is served on is lined with brown butcher wrap, and the paper is sturdy enough that you can simply pick up your order at the counter on this paper without a tray and carry it back to your table. I don't think the Kraft paper is lined, but it is thicker and has a different consistency than white butcher paper. Both are very strong. I've never seen a meat market or grocer in Texas wrap raw meat in anything but the white paper and I've never seen a barbecue restaurant serve the meat on anything but brown Kraft paper. This refers to Central Texas barbecue. I can't speak for barbecue found in other parts of the county.

Barbecue in Texas has become very expensive due to the price of inputs, mainly the meat. We ate at Hays County Barbecue in San Marcos yesterday for lunch. One and a half (1 1/2) pounds of lean brisket, a sausage link, two pork chops, potato salad and two drinks cost $86. The brisket was $28 a pound. My wife and I agree this is a very high price, but we also aren't going to quit eating barbecue although we probably won't be doing it as often. It's a joy to eat well-prepared meat, and a good meal is one of those things that makes life bearable. Gives you something to look forward to. Hays County Barbecue recently made the prestigious Top 50 Barbecue list in Texas Monthly. Their barbecue is sublime.

These days you take your joy where you can find it.

Yep, well, they were obviously out of the white wrap for packaging raw meat. Hopefully temporary - certainly not an ideal substitute, and they knew it.

Kroger today, central Indiana, had a lot of turkeys and hams, finally.
But when I saw the prices I literally did a double take; regular, non fancy Cooks brand hams were 20-28$ each!! Those are the cheapest brand out there!
Turkeys were high too but they were also the great big ones.

I think I’m most shocked at the ham prices!

That ham really isn’t “that” good, either! I cannot imagine what prices for the fancy spiral ones will be!
