Wet dog food starting to go away in central ok
Little ceaser price is just outrageous compared to last year
So I went to ole Roy wet and now it’s depleted
Have started making bulk homemade for big dog
Boiled chicken. Rice. Peas and carrots
You’re much much better just making his good at home than that Ole Roy stuff.

But I guess if making homemade is out of the question for whatever reason then it would have to do.

Why not use the dry food and wet with water or broth?
My dog is not crazy about olroy but will gobble it up if something tasty is poured over it. I have a large amount of soft canned beef stew that we get in commodities. DH doesn't like it and it makes me gag. Yesterday I had the bright idea of using i with the dog food. Its free and "lucky" will love it.

I am lucky in that my dogs will literally eat anything I put in front of them. That being said I have always fed my dogs Pedigree and the only people food I add for a treat sometimes is chicken and some veggies. I was feeding them some homemade dog food for a while but I don't think they were getting enough nutrients because they started eating dirt. And that can lead to eating rocks and as some of you recall, that wouldn't bode well for Bella LOL. ;)

My 2 1/2 cats are outdoor cats that have all adopted me. They get a tiny can each of canned food every morning and if Mr. 1/2 doesn't show up, the others get his wet food. I also put about a cupful of dry food in each of three bowls and if any of them don't like their breakfast, they can just eat dry food or go hungry and one of the others will get more canned food.

There's usually a little dry food left at the end of the day and then after dark, there is a possum that comes around and cleans up any remaining food, including what may have spilled out of the dishes. I used to trap all the wildlife, but I've heard that possoms will sniff out ticks and eat them, so this one can be my fourth adopted stray, as far as I'm concerned. A side benefit of the possum's clean-up might be that there's no food left to attract my former problem of skunks and raccoons. Plus I no longer get swarms of ants in and around the bowls, which are very near my back porch door.

Anyone notice shortages of cheap paper plates in their area? You know, the uber cheap ones used more for target practice than holding food? I've checked four stores and only the fancy colored coated ones are available. :hmm:

Oh, wait...I bet they were canceled because the cheap ones were all white.
Try Sam's online.. That's where I got mine. I use plate holders to keep them from going limp on me.

That lad needs to COWBOY up and eat what's put in front of him OR go hungry! This picky eater crap is just that......crap! There is no way that a parent should put up with that garbage. Don't mean to ding your donut, but......seriously.....that's B.S.! And yes I've raised teenagers and they ate what was put before them or they went hungry. Didn't take too many times of that before they learned. You eat what is on your plate and be thankful.

My little 5 year old grandson popped this one out on me the other day when all three boys were here the youngest got the wrong color cup..."Take what you get git and don't throw a fit." And yes, you apparently can ruin someone's day by giving them the wrong color cup!

Found this on facespy this morning, it was posted sometime last week. There's a huge fight over there about fake meat and it being bad for us, lol.

The real meat is all gone and the fake meat is on sale and people still don't want it

Gates, Bezos fund Ginkgo Bioworks hunt for the next big fake meat food (cnbc.com)

  • Biotech start-up Ginkgo Bioworks is launching Motif Ingredients to find the next big thing in plant-based food after the success of the Impossible Burger.
  • Ginkgo has tapped PepsiCo veteran Jonathan McIntyre as CEO of the new venture, which has been funded by investors including Breakthrough Energy Ventures, a who’s who of billionaire venture capital, led by Bill Gates and representing many of the world’s richest people.
You will find the same with Beyond Meat.

This fake meat topic came up last night. Apparently, DH saw a commercial for KFC advertising they now have “meat substitutes for chicken nuggets”!!
Some such green, woke nonsense, lol.

That’ll go over like a lead balloon!

But will they have special friers for their vegan nuggets? remember that fiasco with burger king and their fake burgers being grilled on the same grill as the regular burgers, and the vegans lost their collective shit over that. which proves it's nothing more than a religion.

I have no idea lol.
I always really liked veggie burgers once in awhile just “because”.... but we hardly EVER eat burgers anyway, except as an occasional treat. And if we do it’s not going to be a fast food burger!.... so I skip it and get a big fat REAL cheeseburger

Who’s going to go get soggy fake chicken anyway?
Gross.

If I worked in the grocery ordering department and saw that photo above, I wouldn't be ordering any more fake meat.
The people have spoken. How much louder can it get?

I have. They're only intermittently available at Wally's and HEB. Been that way for well over a year now.

Ultimately, "the people" will be forced, at gunpoint if necessary, to eat it.

Errand morning today because the weather for the rest of the week is on a downhill slide. (N MN)

Did another Walmart pickup order, and there were no substitutions, even on what I'd consider to be a low-stock Monday after the weekend. The usual, fresh produce like leaf spinach, bell peppers, yellow onions, mushrooms, clementines, bananas. Eggs, butter, cheese, and added on 20 lbs of chicken quarters at .66/lb....maybe not the greatest price, but good enough for some variety from beef and pork, and you sure as heck can't grow 'em for that. Household, like aluminum foil, garbage bags, cleaning supplies.

Anyway, no problem with their stock.
I noticed gas was up again...to 3.16 for the cheap unleaded.

Please make sure he is getting enough nutrients. I was making almost this exact thing with a little brown rice and instead of peas I was alternating between zucchini and green beans. My dogs loved it but I also noticed about that time they started eating dirt. The vet said they are probably not getting the nutrients they need. I went back to pedigree but add a little chicken or veggies once in a while.

You can get around this by adding a half cup or so of their regular kibble to the homemade mixture.

If I couldn't buy cat or dog food, I believe I'd start trapping things like raccoons, possums and maybe groundhogs. Of course, by then I'd be breeding my rabbits and supplementing their lean meat with eggs to add the needed animal fats. I would then be trapping to be sure my chickens were getting plenty of nutrition to ensure plentiful eggs.

Rabbit meat alone lacks vital fats. And I don't think white poultry meats contain enough vital nutrients that red meats contain, so whenever I've prepared them for my animals, I've added a fair amount of liver to the mix. My vet told me it was a very good idea.

Doves are like pigeons around here. Occasionally our cat will manage to catch one. I imagine we could help the cats out if it came to that.

Check the amount of sodium in the beef stew. If high, you can use less by diluting with water.

I will never understand why people who do not eat meat want "fake" meat. Doesn't make sense to me. Either you eat meat or you eat something else, you don't try to turn your vegetables and grains into some kind of fake food. Also, if you are eating vegetarian or vegan surely you're trying to eat healthy so why would you want all those weird added ingredients in your diet. I'm a meat eater, however, I've made perfectly tasty stews, soups and even "meat" loaf with lentils. Do they taste like they were made with meat, no, but they are in and of themselves tasty and healthy meals.

While I agree with feeding pets responsibly, I do not believe in catering to their "won't eat". If they aren't offered anything else, they will eventually eat what is put before them. Just like picky eaters (adults & children) now is the time to break that bad habit. You do not want to deal with pets or people having a food crisis in a SHTF situation when their picky choices are not available.

Anna... while I completely agree with you on not creating picky eaters, whether kids or pets, I need to point out a couple of (not as rare as you might think) issues..

First, many cases of picky eating kids are actually due to food allergies. My oldest grandson is terrible about food... it turns out he's allergic to most raw fruits and vegetables! It causes his throat and esophagus to swell... he just had an endoscopy done, and they found severe inflammation in the lining of the esophagus. He literally will die if forced to eat everything everyone else does.

Second, cats have a rather unique physiology which can put them in extreme danger of dying if they don't eat for a couple/few days. They quickly go into multiple organ failure.

The moral of the story in regard to cats is to feed multiple flavors or brands of food from the beginning...

I thought it went without saying that medical issues such as allergies or other special dietary problems would not be considered picky eating.
You'd think so, but it's quite surprising that in kids, the allergies often go undiagnosed. Grandson had NO visible symptoms... no rash, hives or other allergy indications. He just would act like he was choking or gagging... but then would swallow without trouble. Because he has anxiety issues, it was assumed (by several doctors as well as family) that he was "just picky". Oops..
