We add rice ,green beans and raw meat scraps to our expensive dog kibble. 50/50 mix .
Makes that 50 dollar bag of dog food last a little longer.
When I open up freezer camp for the rabbits the dogs get all the raw scrap.
Everything but the stomach/intestines and head.
Domestic farm raised rabbit has a higher fat content than wild rabbit.

You'd think so, but it's quite surprising that in kids, the allergies often go undiagnosed. Grandson had NO visible symptoms... no rash, hives or other allergy indications. He just would act like he was choking or gagging... but then would swallow without trouble. Because he has anxiety issues, it was assumed (by several doctors as well as family) that he was "just picky". Oops..

This^^^ I love, love, love potatoes, but I'm deathly allergic to them now. Every time I'd eat potato products as a kid I'd get a migraine. I'm also very allergic to citrus, even though I enjoy the tartness and the flavors of the various fruits, eating citrus always left me with a weird stomach ache.

And I'm going to have to stop doing any grocery shopping at noon. That's one of their 'prime restocking' times. So, naturally, there's a lot of empty spots on the shelves. So, not counting them, I still saw a number of certain 'items' that were 'missing'. What got me was the price increases. Lol, imagine...2 and a half pounds of neck bones selling for almost $10.00! As I tossed the package back onto the shelve, I 'griped' out loud, "I wish they'd stop feeding gold to these cows". I jumped when a Lady right behind me burst into loud laughter...

Ol' Roy is the WORST dog food out there. It's actually a joke amongst animal caregivers. It should never be fed to an animal one loves.
Never heard that. Thanks for the tip

Never heard that either. Had three siblings from puppies, made it to 14, 17, and the most-recent loss was a few months shy of his 19th birthday. A foundling hound mix who lived to 16. And a 14 year old mix breed whineraner (he is very vocal and whiney, so he's our 'whineraner' ;) ) still going strong. All have had primarily Ol' Roy all their lives. Mainly because Wallyworld is our go-to for people food. Occasionally when Trac Supp would have the 52 lb sacks on for less than the 50 lb Ol' Roy they'd get a few sacks of that instead. But mainly Ol' Roy.

Of course, they all eat with us so they're getting real meat, real veg, and real ice cream when we have that for dessert  Probably makes up for whatever they might lack from the dog kibble.

Today all food stores very busy......King Sooper's still on strike and heard at Safeway that they go on strike when KS negotiates a done deal............Sprouts in Arvada had no chicken, smidge of pork, and stocked in very expensive beef....due to shoppers evading KS........all other stores are super busy, chip aisle ravaged and produce did not look as good as usual..........and no organic broccoli........

Anna... while I completely agree with you on not creating picky eaters, whether kids or pets, I need to point out a couple of (not as rare as you might think) issues..

First, many cases of picky eating kids are actually due to food allergies. My oldest grandson is terrible about food... it turns out he's allergic to most raw fruits and vegetables! It causes his throat and esophagus to swell... he just had an endoscopy done, and they found severe inflammation in the lining of the esophagus. He literally will die if forced to eat everything everyone else does.

Second, cats have a rather unique physiology which can put them in extreme danger of dying if they don't eat for a couple/few days. They quickly go into multiple organ failure.

The moral of the story in regard to cats is to feed multiple flavors or brands of food from the beginning...

This is the first time I have ever heard of another person having the same food allergies that I have. I fell vindicated. All these years I have gotten side-ways glances and eye rolls. But, it's real. Sometimes just the smell of fresh pineapple, citrus or strawberries will start the reaction and I have to move away from the area. For me, I know I need to hit the Benadryl when my tongue feels fuzzy. I stay away from all uncooked foods and carry my Epipen.

People can say I'm a picky eater and I will agree. I'm picky because I don't want to die. If I had a peanut allergy, everyone would understand. Say that you're allergic to fresh fruits and vegetables, they just don't get it.

North of Indy area Kroger today; very short staffed. It wasn’t too crowded but people seemed....quiet?

Meat looked picked over in all areas.
The chicken case where they normally put all of the Tyson brand was very slim; in fact, they filled one side of it with some expensive Amish brand instead!

Beef was very sad. And very most cuts were very expensive.

Two other women besides myself were looking. I commented it looked not too good and she glumly agreed.

Pork was so so.

I purposely went to the crackers.
Like some here have already said...absolutely no saltines of any kind. They did have other kinds of crackers like Ritz and Triscuit types but those sections were t full.
Yogurt /dairy was ok, not like normal though.

Toilet paper low.

you are a dog purist. I loved my dog Josh, who lived to be 15 and he ate the walmart stuff every day. He also like people food. He had heart worms at 7 and we opted not to get the treatment because of our neanderthal sons. Years later he gagged them up. He out lived the heart worms. My dogs have always been rescues and they lived long happy lives and almost never went to the vet.

I’ve never ever heard, of a heart worm infected dog just gagging them out and living without treatment.
It’s nasty, and painful.
The treatment is hideous too, as well as expensive.

Are you sure he had heart worms?

It was 5 or so years after he was diagnosed. I thought he'd been chewing on his bed, but we looked closer and it was dead worms. We kept him as quite and comfortable as possible during those days. Possibly you haven't heard of it is because its not something that "they" would want to be common knowledge, vet treatments are very expensive and I'd venture to say some not necessary.

It's called mast cell activation syndrome. Quite a few foods cause a histamine response. You are not alone.

Went to walmart today and spent a little over 500. Stocked up on a lot of hygiene stuff - shampoo, shaving cream, tooth paste, shaving cream. Also laid in several canned goods. Couple cases of toilet paper. They had a huge pallet of crackers out in the middle aisle; grabbed 2 boxes. Saw lots of empty shelves. And when we got home, it sure didn't seem like we got much for spending $500.

Day by day
We had medical appts today in Bryan/College Station, and finished up with a good-sized grocery run. Many more stores there (and people) compared to our place way out in the country.

HEB was very busy, parking lot nearly full - cold meds almost wiped out. We were specifically looking for Mucinex liquid, none to be had. Walked past the freezer sections and saw that the frozen potato sections were almost completely empty. Dairy was getting shopped pretty heavily, as was the snacks section. Pasta almost gone. No pepperoni for DH's pizzas. I got the last two bigger pks of American cheese. Almost no fresh chicken at all - cuts or whole. That was a shocker. Fresh fruit and vegetables nicely stocked in the produce area.

Aldi's was a quick in and out trip for us, looked very normal to me.

Kroger - same on the cold meds, although we did get some of the honey Mucinex liquid (I didn't even know they made that type). Snacks hit hard, pasta extremely low. No pepperoni there, either. Didn't check the fresh meat area, but produce was plentiful.

Further out in the country on the way home we did get the last package of pepperoni at a Brookshire Bros. DH is going to have to ration it.

I made a very quick trip to Harris Teeter tonight. I have been doing most of my shopping at Walmart because it’s so much cheaper, but I prefer the meat at Harris Teeter. I didn’t go down every aisle, but it seemed fairly well stocked. I was in the pharmacy area though and noticed that they had an entire section of what used to be medical supplies stocked with energy drinks. Seemed to be a filler since they also have them in the usual spot. One item on my list that I wanted was a bag of Frito Lay Variety chips. My son usually takes a bag to school in his lunchbox. A bag of 18 chips was $11.69! I was shocked. I’ve never seen it that expensive before, but I also usually buy them at Walmart. When I got home I looked the price up online and saw it’s on “sale” for $8.99 if you have their shoppers card. That’s still way more than I’ve ever paid for them. I ended up getting a couple larger bags of chips that were on sale and he can put them in ziplocks for lunches.

I don’t eat a lot of saltines so haven’t been looking. I just checked my HEB app and the local HEB has both name brand saltines and store brand. They also have jalapeño saltines, which are great with chili.

I’m not a big fan of Saltines, but these look really good. I wish we had those here. May have to look for something similar. Its definitely chili weather!

Welcome to my world. If you have facespy there are some really good support groups there for those of us with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS).

The other end of the cow is much worse. Two and a half pounds of oxtails would be about $35, here. Foodies have ruined cuts of meat that were almost thrown away, 30 years ago.

Found this on facespy this morning, it was posted sometime last week. There's a huge fight over there about fake meat and it being bad for us, lol.

The real meat is all gone and the fake meat is on sale and people still don't want it
Same thing here in ultra liberal land. I think once people see all of the un-natural ingredients they don't want it anymore. Remember Boca burgers? They tasted ok, but why substitute for the real thing-unless your Vegan like my little sister.

Also relatively on topic, I bought a 3lb. ground beef loaf at FM today for $2.99lb. 93/7. $8.97(no tax on food in my state), so it was a really good deal. Cut into 6 portions-5 in the freezer and one slow and low on the stove now with Montreal Steak seasoning if anyone knows about that stuff.

I've noticed that too. Here's what I do. After I take out the numbers of crackers that I need, I fold the paper sleeve into a triangle shape and then over again several times. Then I tape it closed. It doesn't let the crackers go bad.
I imagine you could out crackers into a large glass jar snd put in an oxygen absorber for long life, rather than vacuum seal in a quart jar

My little 5 year old grandson popped this one out on me the other day when all three boys were here the youngest got the wrong color cup..."Take what you get git and don't throw a fit." And yes, you apparently can ruin someone's day by giving them the wrong color cup!
My 10 year old grandson suddenly decided, to please his mother, to try new foods for his smoothies to get big and strong for hockey. He has now tried dragon fruit @ 4.99, pomegranate $2, and passion fruit … half price @ $1 and half size. He liked them all but is upping the food budget for not much nourishment

I am waiting for an instacart order to be shopped this morning and it isn't looking good. I have never put up so many refunds please. Spoiled American. I don't want plain white off brand hot dog buns, or breakfast sausage for my spaghetti or French fries instead of hash browns, or white eggs instead of organic brown and on and on. I can see I will probably have to shop 3 different stores to get what I want.

I don't want to offend, but it might be time to do your own shopping and save all that refund time... plus might have to go somewhere else to shop.
