Look for soda crackers in the tin on Amazon...they are made for export they say. .I have those ..and mine seem to stay fresh a long time...
You will get some that are broken...but fine by me as I use those in croquettes ...and I crumble those anyway so already done for me.

I made a quick run to our local City Market(Kroger) and, for the first time noticed empty spots on various shelves. It's non-union so no strike but there were only 4 employees that I saw. Maybe just because it was fairly early on Sunday.

I got everything on my list with no major noticeable price increases, including a couple things in the meat dept that were reduce for quick clearance. I did notice that Folgers coffee has gone from $5.99 up to $8.99, but I'm very well stocked so will wait for a sale before getting any more.

I also stopped at the Starbucks kiosk in Safeway for my treat. Over the last few months the drink has gone from $6.03 to $6.35 and is now $6.57. That's not huge, but if it keeps creeping it could get to be a biggie. Thankfully my kid gave me a Starbucks card for Christmas so it's not coming out of the budget. ;-)

Day by day
I have no shortage of chickens in my back yard: the kind that squawk, scratch, sometimes fly a bit, and lay eggs.

I keep them well fed. In return, they serve us breakfast every morning, and fertilizer for the garden in the spring and fall.

But keeping those cantankerous bags of feathers fed is getting more and more expensive.

I go about an hour out of town, into farm country, to buy large quantities of feed twice a year. I have a trailer - which hauls about 1 and 1/2 times what my pickup truck hauls, and I fill it with 50 pound sacks, which I store in a shed until needed.

So the last time I bought feed was late summer.

I paid $9.99 per sack for Purina Nutrina 16% protein layer feed back then.

I went back to the same rural feed store this afternoon.

That same sack of feed is now $13.99 each, for 50 pound sacks.

And that is the CHEAPEST place I can find good quality feed.

Tractor Supply’s cheaper brands are a bit cheaper than what I buy my girls, but that stuff is awful! My girls won’t eat the stuff. Personally, I think Dumor brand stinks. I don’t blame my girls for turning their beeks up at Dumor feed.

The rural West Tennessee feed store manager where I bought my girls feed this afternoon told me that, back about a month or so ago, they had some trouble getting chicken feed, but not right now. She has plenty on hand, as does the local Farmer’s Co-op.

Right now, all she is having trouble getting is some varieties of horse feed.
Your chicken feed prices are what ours were, gosh, sometime last year, I think. Our local feed store sells a crumbles brand that I can't recall right now, our chickens love it, they're doing great, and it's about $14.75.

Our local Tractor Supply is selling chicken feed at $20 a bag - across the brands that's the price. I've never seen it that high before.

Dont buy more than you will eat in 6 wk -2 months! They are going rancid quickly after purchase. ALL BRANDS. RITZ CRACKERS AND GENERIC RITZ dont seem to have that problem but SALTINES all kinds generic and name brand are turning up rancid within a couple of months.

I've noticed that too. Here's what I do. After I take out the numbers of crackers that I need, I fold the paper sleeve into a triangle shape and then over again several times. Then I tape it closed. It doesn't let the crackers go bad.

Kroger today looked better stocked especially in the meat sections.

....it’s just the beef prices are so bad. And I don’t think people are paying those prices, either.
Pork tenderloin is on sale.

Tyson chicken had some family packs on sale with several left in the case.

Not a stitch of raisins.
Yogurt was picked over.
No bottles kefir except two of the plain ones.

Milk was really picked over.
I’ll post more when it comes to mind.

Not a single bagger at the checkouts.

Placed a delivery order at Popeye's chicken for a family size chicken tenders dinner.

Got a call from the driver a half hour later saying they were out of tenders. Meanwhile, online, my order is shown as delivered. Called the store to see if they had regular chicken and nobody answers the phone. Have to leave a message that I'm sure will never be returned. Found a corporate number and got a refund.

Placed another order for regular chicken. Let's see how that goes.

How does a national fast food chicken joint run out of chicken?

Everything is so dumbed down now.

I think it is as much an issue of incompetence as it is a shortage of actual product.

I can't speculate why the closure; whether it's due to solely local issues or a corporate decision.

As a very broad thought, grocery stores operate on very thin margins. So a low cost player like Aldi might be affected first by rising costs and supply bosses.

Canary in the coal mine?

My younger brother asked a clerk about the closing but she said no one knows why.

Recently this store has had shortages of stock.

Talked to my sons who work at Walmart.

son in automotive department says motor oil and batteries are either complete gone or very limited. Been that way for awhile

son in the deli said today they were completely out of rotisserie chicken, mashed potatoes, Mac & cheese and cheese sticks. He says the shipments have been getting smaller and smaller to restock and today they got nothing. He’s not told if/when more is coming. Yesterday they had him stocking potatoes and bananas in produce since there wasn’t much to do in deli

Our real grocery store has Pork loin on sale for $1.69 a pound with free slicing. I got one that was over 8 pounds for $14 something. Ate some of it yesterday and it was awesome. Going back tomorrow for another one. $1.69 meat is cheap eats these days.
I used to buy several when they had that deal... I'd get most of them cut into 1" chops, and a couple into 2# roasts. Vacuum pack them and they'd be good for years in the freezer. The chops made the best fast dinners..

Anyone know definitively if vacuum sealing saltine crackers would extend the shelf life? When I searched online, I found articles that said it did not help at all and also that it make them last forever.
I use Mason jars and I vacuum seal crackers, cookies, and chips all the time and they last a long time. I usually eat them in a year's time without a problem, but they probably could last longer. I take them out of the package or bags and seal them up.

I haven't seen any chicken poppers (in the cup) in the deli since we had covid. DH bought 5 cups of them when we were sick for me to eat. We put them in zip loc bags and froze them nd I'd take a few out and and warm them in a skillet, pretty tasty when I really wasn't very hungry. Since then I've not seen any.

God is good all the time

Our Kroger has had great sales on pork loin for a long time, on and off.
I bought one today for 7$, don’t remember how much it weighed but it isn’t tiny !

The second order didn't make it here either.

I'm done with that ramshackle outfit.

Regarding the Aldi closing -- grocery stores operated on a fairly small margin of profit so if they cannot get stock then they are not going to survive very long. This is something I've been concerned about. How many businesses will we lose before this is over? Every time we lose a business means less competition which means higher prices. Nasty cycle to the detriment of consumers.

My grandson works at Walmart loading groceries orders. He was telling me some of the ridiculous substitutions provided for out-of-stock items. He said there is no reasonable explanation for substitution of Lysol for a food item ordered.

I have a very picky eater who only likes Kraft shaky shaky or the real blocks of Parmesan ground fine. We mostly eat the real stuff ourselves but it gets expensive. He is a teenage boy, 6’4”…so you get the idea of his appetite.

That lad needs to COWBOY up and eat what's put in front of him OR go hungry! This picky eater crap is just that......crap! There is no way that a parent should put up with that garbage. Don't mean to ding your donut, but......seriously.....that's B.S.! And yes I've raised teenagers and they ate what was put before them or they went hungry. Didn't take too many times of that before they learned. You eat what is on your plate and be thankful.

My GF picked up a couple Rib eye steaks Sat for dinner good size steaks and only 13.00 for two. Went to get a couple of potatoes to bake and there was zero stock of fresh potatoes. She said they had just a few sweet potatoes. Instant potatoes was her next choice and she said that section was bare bones.
Over all lots of holes and every week it is getting worse.

I truly think some of these strange shortages are regional.
Our Indiana Kroger had all of the regular potatoes produce etc yesterday.

It looked totally normal with holes in “select pockets” of items like raisins, for example.
Not a box to be found, which I think I posted already.

And, I’m also seeing the shortages we DO happen only in Walmart stores. Not just in this thread, but on Facebook prep groups as well.

I’ve seen a few photos posted of Publix stores but mostly it’s all been Walmart

My guess is that Starbucks is not daily, for you. If it were, that would be $2,400 a year. It's no wonder that Howard Schultz is a billionaire many times over.

Then, if people could see their way to move in that direction with their cats...

I hear all these stories and video's of all of the shortages. Virtually none of it is here in the deep blue of Washington. Being a conservative I ask myself if I am seeing things wrong? It's the land of plenty here-no shortages here at all.

My friend in Colorado said that numerous times when I would talk to her about food shortages.
She didn't see any shortages at all.
The other day she called to say it finally hit there. She went to the store with her shopping list and could only get 2 small things on the list. She basically went home empty handed.

Starting to see the word " hoarding" in regards to buying cat food. Saw a piece this morning saying to only buy 2 weeks at a time. Hahaha. I have always kept at least 3 to 6 months long before their BS shortages started. People that live day to day get butt hurt when they run out and blame preppers for shortages. What's new?

We live kinda out in the sticks, and I get to town maybe twice a month if I don't need supplies or parts for a job. With this dearth of canned cat mush (they'll only eat the mush, turn their noses up at strips...but will devastate an entire pot of chicken noodle soup as it sits on the stove---don't ask ;) and they can leave nothing but bones on a rotisserie chicken in minutes if you let it be the 2nd trip from the car and the windows are down! ) I've got three different people nearby supplied with a couple twenties each, to spend when they go to Walmart on store brand canned cat mush. When they bring me cases of it, I replenish their front money. Really multiplies my shopping trips.

I like to keep months and months worth stacked in the spare room. At the beginning of last summer, we were down to THREE CANS before finding more! Like I've said, we have one 18 year old sweetie with bad teeth who just can't do the initial processing of dry kibble. She'll try, but I hate watching the poor thing struggle. She's brought us countless rats, mice, and snakes through her prime, and she's EARNED her retirement 'pension'!
