That's the other thing, the dang Luekemia wrecks your blood cells so the brain sometimes doesn't cooperate like it used to. It's annoying!
Actually, I think it might be chalked up to standard mental slowdown. I knew there was such a film, but it didn’t come immediately to mind for me either.

He's putting on quite a show today. He's spent most of his time in the other courtroom due to his behavior. Yelling so loud from there that the judge (and another courtroom) could hear him, even though he was muted. He stacked his boxes in front of the computer so the judge couldn't see him. AND a lot more, with the whole afternoon ahead.

I’m going to tell you how this nut will win a new trial.

Judge:

“The defendant was given every leeway to defend himself.”

Brooks:

“The judge should have known that I was not competent to defend myself.”

Instant new trial.

Yep...

And the family has to suffer through.

A big problem with Brooks is that he does not have a lawyer but is acting as his own defense.

If Brooks had a lawyer, the judge could just throw Brooks in another room when he lips off, turn off his mic and deal just with the lawyer.

Without a lawyer, the court -has- to interact directly with the idiot Brooks.

This true. Of course his permission was predicated on the possibility that he might be QUALIFIED by reason or rationale to act in his own defense.

His action and conduct belie that assumption.

Judge should declare a mistrial and begin again with a court appointed public defendant.

It should all be wrapped up in less than two weeks - which will still be shorter than any decision reached by this court and then appealed. (as you might expect it will be.)

The defendant is apparently "coached" - but can't restrain himself in person.

Brooks was evaluated by several psychologists and found to be competent. He has a constitutional right to defend himself. The judge warned him of the difficulties he was facing by doing so. She told him he was up against prosecutors who had years of experience and he made some flip remark about that. He is smart and a quick study; his complaint that he doesn't understand is just BS.

This morning will be mostly jury instructions and they are anticipating closing arguments to begin after lunch. Both sides will have 1 hour total and then she will give the jury their final instructions. Brooks has already warned her he's going to take his time to tell the jury all the wrongs this court has committed. She told him that was not allowable in closing argument and the prosecution would probably object. He told her: There will be a lot of objections, then. I expect this will be a circus this afternoon.

Nobody wants to see another trial happen.

We built desk forts in second grade. DB continues to prove how depraved, narcissistic and evil he is with every act. I saw an independent lawyer comment that if he acts like this in prison he's going to get a serious beatdown.

Today's wacky hijinks and zany shenanigans.

Court started a few minutes late because Brooks apparently "lost" some paperwork he was given yesterday.

Brooks looks desperate today. He's determined not to have the charges read to the jury.

Brooks had to be placed in other courtroom, again, because judge has to read instructions to jury today and it looks like that is going to take 5-6 hours and she does not have time for his nonsense. #BrooksTrial

Judge is hoping to get to closing statements this afternoon. Brooks seems to be laboring under impression that he can dictate when he gives his close and is likely going to end up forfeiting his close because he literally told judge he is seeking jury nullification. #BrooksTrial

Brooks is trying to get back into main courtroom and judge is admonishing him that if he interrupts her during the reading of jury instructions she might have to admonish him in presence of jury. #BrooksTrial

"Okay, the door is open and he's talking." Brooks was barely back in main courtroom for a couple minutes and judge just sent him back to Zoom in because he is dead set on preventing jury instructions from being read. #BrooksTrial

Brooks is arguing he can advise the jury of their power of "jury nullification" but the court has threatened to forfeit his right to give a closing argument if even mentions nullification it to the jury.

This is going to go real ugly real fast.

Actually, jury nullification is a thing, and all things considered, all juries have the right to know about it.

I’d be shocked as hell if it takes longer than 30 minutes to reach a verdict against him.
Same, but there are 76 verdict forms to correctly fill out and that takes time. They'll first elect a foreperson when they convene in the deliberation room. I doubt they do much tonight.

All right. I'll have some takeaways from Brooks' closing remarks soon. But here's what I saw in the courtroom. And it was different than what I saw during the state's closing. THE JURY: Stoic. Staring at defendant. No overt emotion. Safe to say some jurors were stoney-faced

@HarrisonMKE
Other jurors, it seems, may have been straining to stay focused after what's been a long day in a very long trial. THE GALLERY: Far more quiet than during the state's closing. A lot of people shaking their heads following remarks, especially when Brooks' referenced the bible.

Bruce Harrison

Others smirked, chuckled when Brooks told jurors to consider the things they "haven't been privileged to hear." He's accused the court of preventing him from introducing evidence. Massive sighs of relief from gallery when his closing came to an end. Tension eased in courtroom.

Jury has been excused. Dinner has been ordered for the jurors and the judge is letting the jury decide how long they want to deliberate. They are sequestered.
