Tried to find a case of Wolfgang Puck Organic Chicken and Wild Rice soup. No luck. Out of stock everywhere. Somebody on Amazon had a maybe Dec.

Neither here nor there.
My daughter bought a fresh organic turkey from a local farm last year and it cost something like $140. I told her it was good, but honestly the butterball from the year before for $30 was just as good.

Butterball injects poisons into their birds so that they won't dry out during the baking process. Some of us are allergic to those chemicals and it's just not worth the ER visit. We buy an organic bird every year, it ends up around $3.99 a pound from the local co-op and typically weighs about 10 to 12 pounds, and doesn't contain poison.

I've never spent more than .49 a pound for a turkey, never. I usually get several in the 24 to 28 pound range, and store them in the freezer. This year just might be different.

One year there were Wampler brand turkeys on sale for .19 a pound. I really don't think anyone wants to hear the story behind the sale.

I went to town to shop today. Not a fun experience. Dollar Tree shelves were mostly empty. I asked clerk and she said the truck came in but they didn't have enough help to stock the shelves. Bought nothing there for obvious reasons! Then to Aldi which was crazy busy for mid-day middle of the week. Prices are up and some shortages but basically well stocked. Then to Fareway where there were many empty spots -- primarily for store brand that was on sale, but some other spots too. Again prices were up other than sale items which were mostly missing. It was also very busy for time of week/day. Have I ever mentioned I hate to shop and its getting worse daily I swear (both the shopping and my attitude!). I have to go back to town on Monday for a doctor's appointment so plan to hit Hobby Lobby and Walmart then and perhaps check if Dollar Tree has stocked the shelves. Fareway also had boxes of new canning jars but no lids. I have more canning jars that I will ever fill in again my lifetime, but lids will eventually be needed.

I looked at hams for Thanksgiving but didn't buy. I'm taking a chance and waiting until Aldi has hams for the holidays to buy. I also want a turkey breast which I will likely have to buy at Fareway. Told my family a couple years ago that if they want a turkey they will either have to fix it or come to my house early enough to lift it into the oven cause I can't. Turns out ham is okay after all!!

Folks, let's not forget "package shrinkage". Please also report any package shrinkage. Thank you.

My favorite bacon wasn't going quite so far, confused me. Then I looked at the package (which was not re-designed) and it said 12 ounces. Before it always was 16 ounces or one pound. What they did was keep the old package but carefully spaced out fewer strips of bacon. In fine print it did say 12 ounces.

The other day I went into the local Publix and intended to get a 20lb bag of ice. The freezer, which normally has in excess of 50 bags of 10lb and 20lb sacks, only had 3 10lb bags remaining. I bought 2 and wondered why as I've never seen the ice inventory so wiped out.

Today I go in and the ice is back. Now, instead of 10lb and 20lb bags there are 7lb and 16lb bags for the same price as the larger bags! :fgr:

For the first time ever, our local news had a segment last night warning about the high food prices (going even higher), and food shortages getting worse in our area. They even showed bare shelves at some of the local grocery stores and Walmart. I'm sure it rattled the herd, and I expect things to get much worse, after last night's news segment.

Cue in the stampeding hoards to buy what little food is left on store shelves. TP crisis 2020 part two.

And then there will be the weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth because some selfish person bought all of the baby food, peas, and condiments... or whatever. Yep, we're almost there.

Yeah. All the people we tried to warn years ago that laughed at us aren't laughing anymore. Now, they're out trying to play catch up, and failing miserably.

I got 16 soups yesterday at Meijer's. That sale made the savings 99 cents a can.

Shelves were very full. Store was pretty busy. I went after getting the car 4 new tires, an alignment and an oil change. So it was about 4 pm. Prices are up a bit. They actually had the pet treats I wanted this time.

More sheeple with face diapers and some maskless man near the end of the checkout line was loudly talking to a woman wearing a mask. Too far away to know details.

I still think they are keeping the highly populated areas stocked better until they can't keep up the ruse anymore.

From another forum:

And water!

"My water bill (for the same exact usage amount) has gone from $69.00 every two months to $109.99 for every two months.

And I live in the Pacific Northwest... we do NOT have water shortage here"
We don't have shortage yet in our area of CAs high desert due to the aquifier but my 2 month bill for 2 side by side properties was almost 1000 dollars. Unfortunately we have many trees and shrubs and are being screwed on water.

Went to local aldi that remodeled and reopened today. Was expecting major price increases. The only thing i noticed was softener salt was $2 more a bag and some of the wine was more expensive otherwise prices appeared to be holding at aldi this week in SE Wisconsin.

Aldi was good today (N MN). They had everything I was looking for, which wasn't much. The shelves and coolers looked well stocked. There were maybe a dozen people in the store including staff.

The main focus of the trip was the farm & fleet store for feed and some more painting supplies for my ceiling project. Again, they had everything I needed.

My online orders to Walmart and Fareway were short a few items, but most of it was filled.

Prices continue to climb upwards; $7.99 for 12 ounce bacon package. I requested 4 packages but got only one.

Need 3 to about equal the old bacon packages.

For those of us who have been building our food pantries over the years, we can honestly say we are not part of the empty shelf problem. I'm not rushing out to buy a dozen of anything. I'm simply replacing what I've used since I last shopped. If I come across an item that is scarce I can bypass it until the shelf is full again because I already have a supply at home. I don't HAVE to replace what I've used immediately.

Yesterday I went to a large walmart in a larger city, the shelves were only okay and I didn't see anyone else but me without a mask. My main focus was green beans. All the box bottoms on the shelves had the ends cut off (bastards) but I found an empty one that had not been cut. I filled it with green beans and got my usual two cans of things I use regularly. I would have gotten another case of green beans but I didn't because of the box bottoms being cut. Their supply of green beans was low, and low on many other areas of canned foods, and some things, like butter beans were almost non existent, I ended up getting 6 of a more expensive brand and I did get 6 cans of great northern beans which is DH's favorite.

I ordered 2 bottles Tumeric/Curcumin from walmart and they sent me an extra. I have always taken the Jarrow brand of Curcumin, although its gotten more expensive, I got these in case I can't afford the Jarrow brand.

Exactly, however, since I failed to keep up with my green bean supply, I have been buying larger quantities of them to resupply my supply. Although I would not take the last of them unless I had none.

Green onions
Carrots
Russet potatoes
Frozen chopped onions
Tortillas
Cream cheese frosting
Wing Sauce
Chick broth
Canned green beans
Ice
Lint roller

Al Pastor (pre-marinated pork)
Chilie Lime Chicken Breast (pre-marinated)
^^These were on sale so thought I would give them a try

Also, the treats I give my dogs have increased a lot. It was a 15 piece for $5.84 now it's a 9 piece for $5.99. They only get them once in a while but I better stock up. Also their hip and bone supplements have increased from $29.99 to $34.99 and now $39.99. But they have to have them so it's a non issue. If it ever comes down to it, I'll give up something for them to continue. I've checked Amazon and Walmart both- same price increase

ETA- found them both on Chewy for much less!! Treats $3/ 9 pack and supplements $30.75. The shipping was $5.

Ok, I am just putting this out there as perhaps a question.
We talk of people stampeding in panic to hoard.
The signs have been there for months of sporadic shortages.
Panic buying.
Here in lies the “perhaps a question.”
What are we doing even tho we are prepped?
We are buying more than we ordinarily would do to add to what we have.
Buying 12 instead of 6 for example even tho we don’t sweep the shelves leaving nothing for others.
When do we feel secure enough to say ok, time to stop?
Where is the line in the sand where we stop and not add to the problems at hand and in the not so distant future?
Please take this in the spirit I am asking.
If I didn’t text this clearly I know you get what I’m trying to say.
I am one of the We.
I have been contemplating things like…should I get in my cash stash? Should I use the charge card that’s just for emergencies?
Charge it up just to buy another oil filter and oil tho I have enuff for three changes.
More gas cans and gas.
I can make the payments.
I may not be able to get the things I need on down the road.
Head bounces and bounce some more.

Valid question but impossible to answer.
Similar to how much ammo do you need? Clint Smith answered that with: "How long do you plan to fight?"

Years ago (1970s) the goal of most was to have enough to get you over the "crunch" but once that was acquired shoot for sustainability.

That sounds simple but sustainability is almost impossible to attain.

Use your best judgment and do the best that you can.

There is no simple answer.

Have you set a goal as to how long you want to prep for? 3 months?, 6?, 1 year, two? Determine how much food and supplies you need to meet that goal. Once that goal has been reached, it's just a matter of maintaining that level. Restock as you use.
