Neither here nor there.
For those of us who have been building our food pantries over the years, we can honestly say we are not part of the empty shelf problem. I'm not rushing out to buy a dozen of anything. I'm simply replacing what I've used since I last shopped. If I come across an item that is scarce I can bypass it until the shelf is full again because I already have a supply at home. I don't HAVE to replace what I've used immediately.

Well... if I make it to wally world this weekend I have every intentions of stocking up on Ranch Style beans, and hope to procure a can of the Ranch style beans with jalenpenos. Otherwise, we really don't need much because I replace what we use and rotate inventory.

I warned my dgi, just in time Dh regarding car parts shortage. I have been taking care of the stock of food stuffs. I felt it was his responsibility to buy things for the cars he will need since he knows more about that kind of thing. To my knowledge he hasn't bought a thing. We are good food wise for a few months unless it has to go to feed the whole family, we have our well, and some gallons of water. As far as anything else though, if dh can't get something to fix a car, then I guess we are stuck at home. I usually stay home anyways so I will be okay.

A small franchise grocer in my shopping town has Big Buy 16oz bacon for $3.20/lb. That price rarely varies a nickel up or down.

A lot of smaller, independent, stores I've seen stock it and we've used it quite happily for years.

Not maybe they prettiest bacon on earth, but its a really good product.

Fresh Market is the store's name here in north central Ks.

Well, I warned you in advance. It seems that Wampler is mainly a southern east coast distributer of turkeys

Well, I warned you in advance.

Wampler sells mostly in the mid/south east coast. The "story" got around in their area, and they couldn't sell many turkeys there, that year. So, they shipped them to areas that most likely didn't hear the story, like here. So, the story goes that one of their employees had sex...

I'm in a group on facespy for my equinox, and I've been following it to see what parts are the most likely to go out on my car, it's some sort of solenoid. Asked the guy at O'Reilly's about it, and he was familiar with the part, rattled off some long name and I was like yep, that's it. Anyway, he said they have plenty of that part in stock it's things like the rear windshield wiper blade/arm that I should be looking at buying. So that'll be this weekends purchase, along with an ice scraper for my car. I now have a new battery.

These have been hard to find and for several years now, apparently farmers have been raising chick peas instead of butter/lima beans as there's more of a market demand for chick peas -> hummus.
While like both chick peas and lima beans, we also like butter beans. Yum Yum I'm also not seeing much in the way of green lima beans either.

I picked up two cans of butter beans last week at Fareway, not nary a lima bean to be found.

I'm finding it hard to find Margaret Holme's brand of butter beans we like. The last time I went shopping, I had to scrounge over the shelf to find enough cans to make a flat. A lot of the cans were damaged, so I barely found enough that I could use. I've got a good stock of lima beans, but wanted these butter beans to add variety to my bean stash. I plan to keep buying the butter beans as long as I can find them, even a few cans at a time if that's all I can get.

Yesterday I went to a large walmart in a larger city, the shelves were only okay and I didn't see anyone else but me without a mask. My main focus was green beans. All the box bottoms on the shelves had the ends cut off (bastards) but I found an empty one that had not been cut. I filled it with green beans and got my usual two cans of things I use regularly. I would have gotten another case of green beans but I didn't because of the box bottoms being cut. Their supply of green beans was low, and low on many other areas of canned foods, and some things, like butter beans were almost non existent, I ended up getting 6 of a more expensive brand and I did get 6 cans of great northern beans which is DH's favorite.

I ordered 2 bottles Tumeric/Curcumin from walmart and they sent me an extra. I have always taken the Jarrow brand of Curcumin, although its gotten more expensive, I got these in case I can't afford the Jarrow brand.

When it was only me I would have paid that but DH doesn't care so I buy as cheaply as possible. I do have a good store of dried ones though, but canned are so much easier Plus when I cook dried ones I tend to cook way too much.

They should be coming in over the next two weeks, per the manager at the N. Ankeny Fareway (I was looking for them, too!)

Good to know. I don't need a dozen cans, three or four will work for me for a years worth as I have other beans I enjoy more... yes it's chick peas, and lentils, love, love, love lentils, and pinto beans. Hmmm maybe I'll go open up a can of butter beans for my lunch!

About Mid-October, I usually buy 15 - 20 cans of lima beans, butter beans, spinach, corn, beets, and chick peas.

I buy about 48 cans of green beans and baked beans.

This stash will last until early July, depending on how much company I'm feeding. Green and baked beans are the main portion in casseroles. And, yes, I know how to use dried beans, but canned beans significantly cut down the preparation and cooking time.

Oh, no!

Ya know that extended warranty plan for your car that they keep trying to sell you?

Well, I just opened the mail and I am now formally warned “We have just been advised there will be a Price Increase to our Extended Vehicle Service Plans (EVSP) effective October 14, 2021.... Please call us immediately at .... so we can hold your EVSP contract at the lowest program rates....”

Of course, I hit a deer with that car and totaled it two years ago, so forgive me if I pass on this magnamorous offer...

If water or utilities are in short supply, canned beans are better to have than dry beans...

That, too. It's just that dried beans cost a lot less, but I've learned from experience that there's too much going on in the fall for me to spend a lot of time on daily meals. Canned and steamed veggies (fresh veggies I've frozen myself) are worth it.

Butter beans and lima beans are the same - Phaseolus lunatus.

It depends on who, and where, you are as to which is called which. Generally speaking, in the north, large white dry limas are often called butter beans. In the south, small green (shellie, not dry stage) limas are often called butter beans. But not always. Opening up a can of butter/lima beans is like opening up a can of worms.

And, fresh (out of the garden), not frozen, shellie beans have the best flavor and texture, to me.

I just got back from Safeway.
1/2 gallon of darigold egg nog $4.79 $1 cheaper at least last year.

The lunch size 2 plus oz ruffles, potato chips, fritos were a staggering $1.89 which is nearly the $2.29 they were 2 years ago. They were $1.29 a few months ago.

The big 9 ozish are now $4.79. THEY WERE 3.29 18 MONTHS AGO
bye bye junk food.

That's not quite right. Down here, in the South, we grow lima beans and butter beans. They are totally different in color and taste. You might check out Southern Speckle butter beans.

While I've never seen speckled butter beans in a can, they are easily found in the frozen veggie section at grocery store, at least down here.

Many a different P. lunatus.

I have about 30 varieties in my collection. Some white, many not. Some large, some not. Some produce several different colors in the same pod. Violet's Multi Colored is one very good example. Taste is as varied as sizes and colors.

Seriously, name brands are either going on the do not buy list or the cut back list.

I noticed Progresso lentil soup were $2.50 a can nearly double $1.25 what they were a few months ago. It's been a while but they used to be 79 cents.
It makes them competitive with Amy's @ $3.29 each.
I’ve noticed that price increase, as well.

As a matter of fact, I just had a Prigresso Lentil soup about two hours ago! With bread, butter/apple butter. :)

I buy that brand when they go on sale but even the sales aren’t great these days.

My favorite that I haven't been able to find locally for a long time now is the anasazi variety I think it was, it's a red and white lima bean.

Ok, I am just putting this out there as perhaps a question.
We talk of people stampeding in panic to hoard.
The signs have been there for months of sporadic shortages.
Panic buying.
Here in lies the “perhaps a question.”
What are we doing even tho we are prepped?
We are buying more than we ordinarily would do to add to what we have.
Buying 12 instead of 6 for example even tho we don’t sweep the shelves leaving nothing for others.
When do we feel secure enough to say ok, time to stop?
Where is the line in the sand where we stop and not add to the problems at hand and in the not so distant future?
Please take this in the spirit I am asking.
If I didn’t text this clearly I know you get what I’m trying to say.
I am one of the We.
I have been contemplating things like…should I get in my cash stash? Should I use the charge card that’s just for emergencies?
Charge it up just to buy another oil filter and oil tho I have enuff for three changes.
More gas cans and gas.
I can make the payments.
I may not be able to get the things I need on down the road. Head bounces and bounce some more.

You are singing my song...have you been monitoring my inner voice?

The true Anasazi sometimes gets confused with Jacob's Cattle. The colors are similar, but the pattern is different, as well as the shape. I have my doubts about the story that the Anasazi was found in a cave in a clay pot and estimated to be 1,500 years old.

Jacobs cattle that's it! I knew it wasn't the christmas lima bean. I have no doubts that it was found in a clay pot. Per friends, native friends, that live in Colorado and New Mexico they were lots of pots of beans that were whisked away by the museums, never to be seen again. And this is why some natives and certain ranchers won't allow the museum types onto their land, they know there are ancient artifacts there and they want them left alone.
