Oh, I just realized. It's October.
This will be our first Ebola Halloween.
Little virus factories roaming the neighborhood. Knocking on the door.
First real parties of the Holiday season.
Whether is cooler perfect time for exchanging body fluids.

Exciting times.

I'm talking about his girlfriend and the family living in that apartment... they have not been seen since.

ok, its clarified that jackson is not meeting with those in quarantine, thank you for explaining that. jackson isnt with louise troh, the girlfriend, he is mugging it up with family members that had no contact with duncan. smarmy bugger. wonder if he is gonna meet with the daughter who had some contact---i read she has been released from quarantine in her apt even tho it hasnt been 21 days. (good grief).

so, i want to know WHERES LOUISE TROH?

i keep looking for interviews, photos, contact from Her---and i cant find a thing.

how come the press isnt asking WHERES LOUISE?

she has got to be having symptoms by now----
from the 20th to duncans getting sick around the 24-25, going to emergency room when he was pretty sick on 26th and off in an ambulance on the 28. she and the boys were with a virus shedding person for 8 days.......one or more of them have got to be infected by now, the 6th, over 2 weeks have passed.

so i reckon they are infected and its all clamped down. im also thinking duncan has passed. but, how much longer can they keep this under wraps? if this is really ebola zaire, it has got to be spreading.

This has been one of my biggest fears since last month.

No Halloween going on at my house!

Besides with all the other threats from that group in the ME, the last thing anyone wants to do is to open their door to a stranger and Halloween is The Most vulnerable night of the year.

I hear of more crimes committed to people who open their doors innocently (and stupidly) to strangers at night than any other night of the year.

Better and safer to have the kids attend a Halloween party that night.

I never Ever open my door to strangers. V

Duncan is dead by any reasonable medical criteria, other than the obvious CDC panic control mode.

The family in direct contact is infected and showing symptoms, again the CDC is in full panic suppression mode.

The others are also likely to start showing signs of infection in the next 7 to 10 days.

Yep, the CDC is so good. ha ha ha

I know things are running together, but Louise (has withheld her last name) and Ms Troh are 2 different people. Louise is the girlfriend. Ms Troh is his step-daughter.

No, Louise Troh is Duncan's girlfriend. The step-daughter is Youngor Jallah, 35, and she is one who works at a nursing home and was cleared to go back to work Sunday but has chosen not to do so.

Other documented family members:

Mawhen Jallah, 28, the daughter of Duncan’s girlfriend, Louise Troh.
Kasiah Eric Duncan, 19, Louise and Thomas' son.
Timothy Wayne, 13, a son, is the one who was living in the apartment with Louise, the 20 something nephew, Joseph Weeks and one of Week's friends.

It was his IV bag and, according to how I read it, her symptoms preceded onset of fever by a day or more.

I am sure you are right. Yes, her sore throat, pain and lassitude happened first, and the "Ebola tongue", then the next day a low grade fever, and the next day a higher fever. IIRC.

Hmm...A sore throat, from what I've read, means the viruses or bacteria are replicating in that area. So coughing or maybe even breathing out at that point conceivably could carry viruses to others.

Actually the incubation period can take up to 21 days, and Louise and any other people hanging around in that apartment could theoretically have been exposed to Ebola on surfaces up until they moved out and the apartment then got deep cleaned. So the 21 day period should actually start the day they moved out. That is if they took nothing with them from the apartment.

Agreed. I think it'll be a news blackout, until TPTB get their ducks in a row. In the meantime, I think Mr. Duncan is dead.

Do we know of any other Ebola patients that have *lingered* for as long as Duncan? Heck, hasn't he been on a ventilator for THREE days (or more)?

I also suspect that he has - for all purposes - passed on.

And it is unconscionable that they have sent that girl (that was living with him) back out into the world.

Agreed. I had thoughts when I awoke this morning that THEY were collecting samples of him for research. I hope that is not true.

Ok. Watching the 4 pm local news (Dallas) NBC 5.

They just said:
1-- ALL hospitals have been warned to prepare for patients exposed to the original patient (Duncan).
2-- there is no risk to the guy who drove the family.
3-- the deputies ENTERED the apartment, but did not interact with the family. That is why the deputies are on leave and the vehicles are being deconaminated. But added it was NOT necessary. They were doing it to calm public fears.
4-- Jesse Jackson only met with family that were from NC. Said whites do not need to fear black people because of the ebola disease (My note-- WTH? WHO said that was even the case???)
5-- said Duncan's condition is improving. His liver is improving? But his visiting family is NOT allowed to see him or speak with him. (oh, he's on ventilator.)

No info about the family he stayed with, except one little blurb that they are not showing symptoms. (my note-- WHO is not showing symptoms? All of them? 100 people?)

Japan news (yeah again, we have to go outside the country) is reporting that Duncan is also on Dialysis. Would that seem likely with an Ebola patient? Not sure when the organs go juicy..but that bit had me scratching my head....:shr:

Renal failure is common in advanced stages, as is hepatic failure. Sawyer had abnormal liver function studies before he tested positive.

According to the recent data posted by Medical Maven, the organs are only going juicy about 18% of the time in this outbreak.

They did NOT release the woman that was living with him (Louise Troh) back out into the world, they released the step-daughter, Youngor Jallah, who was always just a visitor but also the one that accompanied him to the hospital.

Keep in mind that Dr. Brantly was sick for a week before they brought him to Atlanta and then he was in Atlanta for 3 weeks.

The average Ebola patient, if they are going to die, dies on day 16 according to data from WHO based on this current outbreak. Since 16 is an average that means there are some that die quicker and some that linger longer. And that 16 is in the medical conditions existing in West Africa.

Depending on how you count it, Duncan is on day 12 or 13 today.

Because dat would be rasciss dontcha know.....

I am sure he is afraid that because 99% of those at least 8,000+ who have contracted and died from Ebola happen to be black, that this could be seen as an issue.

I have not read this thread at all but I feel it's the one to post a little FYI.

Right now I'm in Albuquerque where my brother just passed away a few days ago and time on his computer is limited but I feel this might be pertinent to the subject.

My sister was unable to stay on for the memorial so she left yesterday for Orlando. When she got back she called and said on the way back from her connecting flight from Houston she heard an announcement that there was a medical emergency on board. As soon as they landed they said they wanted the passengers to stay on until the CDC checked out that passenger. Turns out a guy from Africa got on with a fever! After verifying his passport showed he'd been in the states over 21 days they let the passengers off. When they left, the passengers who were waiting to load were asked to wait until they got a NEW PLANE to get on!!!

She hasn't received any more news about it but I'm still slightly worried especially with the removal of the plane they were on and getting a new one. I am VERY busy but If I have time, I'll check up and see if this has happened to anyone or have heard anything on the news.

Short article up on drudge Terrianne..

Ebola scare delays flight at Orlando International Airport
Man recently traveled to West African nation, officials say

The incident happened after 3 p.m. Monday on Southwest Airlines flight 718, which was traveling from Houston.

According to airport officials, the pilot notified the Centers for Disease Control when it was revealed that the man had traveled to West Africa at the end of August.

After being examined by a medical team, it was determined that the passenger did not fit the criteria for Ebola or any other communicable disease. He was released, and airport operations were not affected.

Orlando International Airport has no direct or nonstop flights to the West African region, which is most affected by the Ebola outbreak.

Airport officials said there are procedures in place if there is any indication of a passenger displaying symptoms and travel history associated with the deadly virus.

My heart goes out to the stewardesses. Can you imagine what THEY are feeling right now? That, and the crew that cleans the cabin after passengers deplane.

Have an aunt that is a flight attendant for Continental. She hadn't even heard about it. (??? In all fairness she is an idiot)
Uncle works for continental as a mechanic. He said it didn't affect him, so he wasn't worried. (He only works on engines, etc...) HOWEVER-- he does work as a plumber in his spare time for supplemental income. He was asked by his boss if he would be willing to work in homes of suspected ebola. He said no. Boss said, ok. (he thought that strange... works in Houston)
Asked another family friend that is a mechanic for southwest. He knows about it, isn't worried at all. May be because he never goes into the cabins, only outside stuff. Not sure.

We don't know they aren't showing anything. The new nurse whose story BBL just posted, started experiencing symptoms one week after touching his IV bag or was it a cath bag? Fever a day or so after that. The next week will be very interesting.

You're getting two stories mixed, it was a Liberian doctor telling how she contracted Ebola from just touching Sawyers IV bag. Had nothing to do with Spanish nurse.

Heard an interview on FOX tonight with gf's family's pastor who had been to see them and said they are fine. Fox also said the sister from down south had spoken to him by some kind of skype type connection; sorry I can't be more specific; I was driving. Maybe one of our resident sleuths can post a link or something.

Actually what I did was forgot the story BBL posted was a doctor, not a nurse, thank you for pointing that out. And I realized a bit after posting, that it was an IV bag, not a cath thingie. The Spanish nurse got infected they don't know how, since she was as suited up as directed, at least in Spain.

Kris, what we all are doing here is document the potential Black Death of 1348 level global pandemic in its early stages. Assuming people are interested in this 500 years from now, and some form of record of these posts exists, the information would be invaluable for future historians.

The posts would show what people are thinking, feeling and give a blow by blow description of events as they happened. Timebomb is a living history of events as they happen. I think we are the logical followup to oral history and historical records.

Oh, how the powers that be hate the Internet. Kris, I am sure you are on some Homeland Security list for something. <G>

I wouldn't count on people being able to read stuff from the internet five hundred years down the line.

Have you ever thought about how transitory our forms of communication and information storage have become?!? Archaeologists still dig up stone and clay documents from thousands of years ago. There are still parchment, wood, and even high-quality paper documents still in existence that are hundreds to a couple of thousand years old. But anything printed on cheap paper has a life-span measured in decades (think cheap paperbacks), and the internet is just electrons -- if the electricity went off, they would be gone faster than a puff of smoke!

ABSOLUTELY CORRECT.
Until they left the area where exposure was possible, even if they had not been exposed previously, the 21 days START when they left Ebola contaminated area.

If Duncan is already dead they don't have long to release the information.

Ebola patient's son stopped at hospital doors

The son of Texas Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan traveled hundreds of miles to visit his father on Tuesday -- but was unable to see him, reports CBS News correspondent Manuel Bojorquez.

He said it was his faith that pushed him to leave college to be with his father.

"I just came down here because I felt God was calling me to come see my dad," Duncan's 19-year-old son Karsiah said.

Duncan remains in isolation at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. He's still listed in critical condition, but is being treated with an experimental drug. He's also on a ventilator and receiving dialysis.

"I hope and keep praying that my family is okay and my dad makes it out safely," his son said.

But the hospital wouldn't allow Karsiah to see his sick father.

In a statement, the hospital said it was "standard with hospital patients who are unable to make decisions on their own" for a representative to make "decisions about patient access and communications."

"The hospital offered for the patient's son to see his father through Skype tonight," said the statement, adding that Karsiah "decided to wait until tomorrow." (maybe he decided or maybe someone decided for him)

Three other hospitals in Dallas have set up special Ebola isolation units as they reach the midway point of the disease's 21-day maximum incubation period.

Unfortunately, people in Dallas are reacting to anything that might be considered Ebola-related with an abundance of caution, and concern over the virus is spreading across the state.

Emergency crews swarmed American Airlines flight 2791 in Midland, Texas, Wednesday morning after a passenger on board got sick.

The plane originated from Dallas, sparking concerns of Ebola. Midland officials said that although Ebola was unlikely, it was not being ruled out. According to officials on the scene, at least 100 passengers were questioned and released.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said they were working to fast-track changes to improve airport screenings for the virus.

"We're looking hard at what we can do to further increase the safety of Americans, and in the coming days we will announce further measures that will be taken," said CDC Director Tom Frieden.

Health officials said this week was critical to see if the virus had spread to any of Duncan's high risk contacts.

I've been wondering just how far along this Duncan's symptoms have progressed to...I'm assuming that the hospital's interventions have kept him from the worst, so far, but do you think he's started bleeding out at all? Or any of the final stages of the disease? If the can have him on dialysis and IV's then his veins haven't collapsed. Yeah, it's morbid but I'm the kind that envisions all of it goos or bad.

It depends on what that experimental drug can accomplish since he had ebola for a week prior.

I don't think Duncan's son was exposed. He was away at college. At least according to the article...
I don't recall and mention of this son at all in previous articles, but I might have missed it.
