IIRC (and I may not), this "son" hasn't seen Duncan in many, many years. Sort of a strange family... I believe I read that Louise left at least a couple children in Africa (and they were fairly young) when she came to the US.

But I absolutely agree that as long as this kid has proof he IS Duncan's son, the hospital has no legal right to bar him from the premises. Assuming they've got Duncan in a negative pressure room, letting next of kin at least see him through glass windows would seem to be a no-brainer.

Unless he's not alive. Even if his appearance is horrifying, that's not a reason to bar close kin from seeing him- you sit them down with a counselor, and prepare them for what's going on.

Yes, it smells, though for different reasons.

This is a sticky part of how hospitals run now, and some days it sucks.
The hospitals now ask the families to designate a family representative, through whom all of the info gets disseminated and from whom the decisions on care and who can visit are received.
Yep.
That can suck BIG TIME under some conditions.

If there ARE "family issues" then this gets REALLY nasty.

And if the family rep says "NO." the hospital actually has no legal right TO ALLOW HIM IN.

Yeah.

Been there, fought that, damn near lost. Until RELIC and I started to speak "Medicalese".

If so, Texas is "Central" right? So that would be 4:30 EDT?

Just a little encouragement to take a few moments to throttle back the "go straight to conspiracy" mode. These days it is possible to keep someone alive in a technical sense for more than a few days. The equipment to do this is in every hospital you go to. I am pretty sure that the medical staff did everything they know how to do and also did quite a lot of long distance consultation in order to treat Thomas. This is the kind of highly visible situation where the medical and nursing staff know, without a doubt, that every action and decision they made will be under intensive scrutiny for decades to come. They will have left not one stone unturned. And I'm sure they have "visitors" who are from a large number of other organizations present to support them at the elbow, so to speak. The fact is that they shot every bullet they had, and had no other options then to simply unplug Thomas' corpse. For this care team it is a very deeply disturbing and frightening situation that they "lost". It is very likely that not one of them had ever dealt with a Pt disintegrating before their eyes, where the interventions they did had little to help. Say a few prayers for them.

Well, we can *hope* it was another girlfriend, but .... A major indicator of just how serious this is will be if someone other than those among the initial contact list catches it, because that would mean that it's more contagious than what we're being told and that the CDC botched their primary line of defense, namely the contact list.
That said, if we are informed about that at all, it be be obscured in that foggy, blah-blah-blah, dot-gov speak.
So, we must watch carefully.

They mean 3:30 Texas time and that would be 1:30 my time and I am sitting with a cup of coffee waiting to see if our world changes.

Looks like yes, it was and is ebola, and yes they were hiding infected people.

Fortunately for us, this one wasn't hidden.

What a mess.

I, too, just have that unexplained feeling that they are hiding his family. That "statement" she released when Duncan died came straight off of some politician's desk. No one has seen or heard FROM them since they were moved. We have only heard ABOUT them from, yep, the CDC and local mouthpieces. I think this could very possibly be a cover-up. I could be wrong, but my gut is telling me something is hinky as hell about all of this.

I bumped this because---even though Duncan is dead---this story ain't over till we find out how HIS FAMILY is...

and as BBL states above, I think they DO have it----



Isn't there SOME way we can find it? Any rumors on twitter? How about that "inside info" Rummer found last night? (think that was on the Frisco thread tho' it may be earlier on this one...)

Family did NOT go. Pastor has NOT seen the family. The last thing Mr Duncan said, to a nurse, was that he wanted to see his son who was in college.
As we all know, when the son arrived he was not allowed to see his father even via computer screen.
He was promised he could skype with his father the next morning.
However the next morning Mr Duncan died.

Until I see the family, alive at a press conference, in excellent health I will keep openly stating they are now infected with Ebola and showing symptoms. If you look at what happened in West Africa, when people were in the same room with an infected person, Mr. Duncan at the apartment, you will realize how UNLIKELY it is that the family isn't infected and showing symptoms.

The CDC is lying about the health status of the five family members. The truth will eventually come out, and when it does the CDC cretin is going to be hanging from the nearest street pole.

The CDC is operating with the methods of a clumsy, amateur Magician, SUPPRESSING COVERAGE OF PERTINENT QUESTIONS deliberately distracting the public's attention AWAY FROM THE TRUTH AND WHAT ONE HAND IS DOING in order to deceive us, AND REASSURE US WITH NONSENSE, and make us believe LIES.

Don't be fooled, DEMAND answers to pertinent questions. Where is the girlfriend, and EXACTLY what is the health status of her AND ALL THE OTHER CLOSE CONTACTS of Dunham?

The speculation over at the PFI Forum is that there might be a Friday Night Dump of Bad News like the WH usually does. And though it was not cited as part of the reason for today's stock market decline I think the stock markets are getting insider information on this developing Ebola debacle/catastrophe.

As you stated, it just flies in the face of reason and science that those family members are not infected. Some, if not all, of the family cooped up with Duncan when he was puking, etc. must be infected.

This is not Disneyland, this is Ebolaland.

What kind of gag order are they putting out that NO news is coming out? Even the fringe reporters are silent on this family.

You can't tell me no press knows where they are and can't get any info.

The gag order must be laced with very heavy handed threats that frightens even the fringe reporters and the whistleblowers.

ittybit has a SERIOUS point.
That team has to have the same mindset as paramedics etc, and I can tell ya, we don't take this kind of defeat well.
The whole "NOT IN MY SQUAD" is just as strong in hospital as it is pre-hospital.
Pray for them.

The CDC could stop this apparently needless speculation and suspicion by having a live internet video with the family answering a few questions for confirmation and an update on their status.
This would be technically simple and very low cost and a good way to quell the growing concern about the health of the vanished family.

I agree.
At this point in time, with the obvious, repeated duplicity,inaccuracy, and political correctness of the CDC, it is now the moral imperative for ethical persons to expose the dangers of this outbreak.
Moscow rules may apply. Use a good friends computer, protect sources, provide tips and see who takes them, scrub emails and tlhink before you talk on any and all phones.
We are not in Kansas anymore, and have not been for quite a while.
