I can't recall my dad objecting to patched jeans and my dh never did either. My dad grew up during the Depression so guess having jeans/overalls at all was a plus! My mother was an expert seamstress and knew how to do a proper patch which probably helped. My dh also grew up near poverty level but his mother was a super talented at stretching every penny, so he and his brother never did seriously without. Still patched jeans was part of life.
