I can't recall my dad objecting to patched jeans and my dh never did either. My dad grew up during the Depression so guess having jeans/overalls at all was a plus! My mother was an expert seamstress and knew how to do a proper patch which probably helped. My dh also grew up near poverty level but his mother was a super talented at stretching every penny, so he and his brother never did seriously without. Still patched jeans was part of life.

Where do you get jewel weed salve?

I make my own from jewel weed I pick and dry. I crumble the dry leaves and cover with melted coconut oil. I leave it in a sunny window in summer for a few weeks or you can heat very low in a double boiler. Strain and jar it up. I also added broad leaf dryed plantain.
