I know that a knee replacement is pretty common these days but I'm finally going to get my left knee done this week.

I haven't been able to walk well the last few years so I am hoping this is the start of getting back to a semblance of my old life.

If things go well I'll get the other knee done in about three months and then maybe I can address my back.

I have been doing water aerobics three times a week and some light resistance training for the last six months. I can't walk but my dogs need to so I take them a mile and a half daily in my recumbent three wheeler

Anyway, I believe in the power of positivity and Prayers so thanks in advance.

Prayers for a successful surgery and rapid healing! And that the physical therapy goes WELL! Friends of mine who have had that surgery said that the therapy can be as important as the surgery.

DH had his right knee replaced. Do EVERYTHING they tell you to do. The physical therapy is most important. Make sure you get up and move. In the hospital, they didn't turn DH and he developed a bedsore on his butt. So, I was on his butt several times a day putting Desitin (diaper rash ointment). They sent DH home with the bedsore, I was really ticked off at the hospital. There's a reason why I call it "The Morgue." They gave me the worse stuff for it - it made it worse. It was my idea about the Desitin and it healed up that bedsore fast so keep that in mind JIC. Other than that, you will do fine. Keep moving!

God bless. It's awhile to recover but well worth it according to my wife. She had one replaced 5 years ago and the other last year. Be sure to keep up the therapy on your own after they doctor releases you. Scar tissue can form for up to a year after surgery and you want to keep the tissue stretched out. Don't be discouraged if you feel you are not progressing as you should. My wife did that a lot. I kept telling her not to compare how well she is doing today to how she was doing a week ago. It improves slowly. I told her to compare today to a month ago and she always agreed she had improved quite a bit. Each knee was approaching normal in 6 months but even then it took almost a year for all the pain to completely go away.

Had my right knee replaced, tough at first but it will get better. Not even aware of the knee now.

Will add that the therapy is the one thing that will improve your outcome, Praying for you.

About a month before my wedding, my great aunt had a knee replacement. She told me then that she would dance at my wedding, and she did.

Imagine my prim and proper great aunt showing us all how to do the Charleston!
She's 85 and still going strong.

Prayers for healing and lots of dancing.

Yes you have our prayers. That is so sweet of you still taking your dogs for their exercise.

Prayers sent.

I have had two very successful knee surgeries. No pain, full motion, scars fading ...still a bit tender when I kneel directly on them. (I get up from the floor like an inch worm.) For about 5 years before the surgery, it was bone on bone and teeth gritting painful. Sometimes I would cry at night from the pain.

Best thing I ever did for my health and quality of life. Now 100% healthy!

Pass it forward...
I have had one knee "cleaned up" of arthritic damage twice and the same done once to the other knee. Knowing knee replacement is likely ahead for me, I quizzed a friend who has had both knees replaced. She has had very good results but emphasized the need to follow through with the required physical therapy. I exercise our dog using my recumbent "tadpole" (2 wheels in front) recumbent trike also. Wishing you "happy trails" on your trike and excellent results from your surgery!

Hello David,

Adding my prayers for your surgeon to do an excellent job and that your recovery is blessed.

Prayers for you for comfort.

Don't try to muscle through the pain, people heal faster when they take their pain medicine as prescribed and keep the pain at a minimum.

What jed just said.

Had mine done 2 years ago this month. Took a few weeks but I managed and all is MUCH better now. Individual recovery times can vary. A coworker had both of hers done a week apart and was back on the nursing floor at 7 weeks. I find kneeling a little iffy but much improved (could not before), and no longer worry about my knee going sideways and tearing up everything in sight (and inside). With any luck it will outlast me and give the archeologists something to comment on.
