Volcano Update 2 - Additional vents opening -Volcano on La Palma island in the Canary Islands has erupted

This too shall pass.
Trying to talk sense into stepson, GF and kids to pack up important stuff in case they need to move fast.
They are in Virginia Beach -right next to Norfolk

I sent an e-mail to my ex, who lives with his wife near the NC coast -- I think they are probably far enough inland to be safe (30 miles or so), but they are at a very low elevation, so not sure. Wise to be watching and ready, in any case.

Yup, I have Go-bags ready and son had to go to work. Told him that if I call, to leave without question and head home, and we go north, far enough inland

I suspect if the residents move to a different watershed and not too close to the beach they're fine.
Hope they don't move to the part that is suppose to slide off into the Atlantic.
I would think they are moving them entirely off the Island. Not much area to hide if it lifts a top off.

La Palma volcano eruption today: evacuation, possible tsunami and live updates

The evacuation of more than 5,000 people in progress
The Spanish Civil Guard has reported that the evacuation efforts will affect more than 5,000 people from different neighbourhoods of the municipalities of El Paso, Tazacorte and Los Llanos de Aridane.
This process had initially begun with around 300 people living in Alcalá and El Paraíso, the closest areas to the eruption, with people with reduced mobility getting priority.
The Civil Guard has deployed 11 patrols, which includes a patrol boat and a helicopter.

I don't know if this has been posted yet because I have a bunch of catching up to do. According to Wikipedia:

"The western flank could slide into the ocean.

They estimate that the tsunami will have waves possibly 164 ft high when it hits North America about 7 hours later

Modelling suggests that the tsunami could inundate up to 16 miles inland.

The entire east coast or just parts of it?

WHERE? Which feed?
Post 153 top picture on right shows the top of mountain range burning across with flowing lava toward a town. The picture looks like a fissure opening across the whole top of that range of mountain. The town is directly in the path as well as roads are gone but the impressive thing is it looks like a fissure across the top of that mountain.

Entire East Coast - from Canada to Florida, and even into the Gulf of Mexico.
