Have you all looked into the Newly opened Shell 'cracker" chemical plant 16 miles east in Beaver PA, on their 800 acres , 385 acres are the Plant , sitting on the banks of the Ohio River. Plant will be running at full capacity by mid summer. Train was heading there also. Look at all this chem. plant will produce.

Shell also has a plant in Deer Park , TX. where they were going to send the water.

Shell and N . S rail have the same largest investors.

humm? You all a better researchers then I, there must be some dots to connect. East Pal. OH the fall guy for any future problems from this new 6 Billion dollar plant??

I know bw and psychgirl. You are both right.

The people there are better off living in homeless shelters. Staying in town is killing them.

This is why no one does anything. It is easier to stay where we are at even if it means death. That is how so many are killed in the Holocaust and other similar events.
People just don't know what to do,
they don't have the resources to do any thing,
it is easier to just stay and die.
We are a nation filled with sheep. Stand up for yourself. Get out of your comfort zone. Acting is better then doing nothing. Do not stand in line in front of a trench waiting for your turn to be shot in the back of the head. Get out of town now. Set up a tent in the DC mall. Shit in front of the white house. Dump all trash in front of congress. Sleep on there door steps.

Get locked up in a DC jail. That'll show 'em.

Next, you can cut off your nose to show your face who's boss.

The vinyl chloride was going to be mixed with chemicals extracted from natural gas at the cracker plant to polymerize the vinyl chloride into polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic pellets. Those pellets are shipped everywhere for use by plastic product manufacturers as feedstock in injection molding machines.

Over 1,000 new covered hopper cars are waiting in storage all over NY, PA and OH to be sent to that plant to haul product.

well, guess what! today they are shipping debrie from train and area to Ross Enviormental facility in Grafton , Ohio, 5 miles East from me. so I am not to get away from it...
Same here. Although I don’t live in Grafton itself, I might as well. It’s our mailing address, and I can be downtown in about ten minutes or less. Of course it’s all safe doncha know…. I understand that the residents of Grafton have been fighting Ross Environmental for years to no avail. No end in sight from this mess for a lot of people!

I've mentioned it. That's where? I believe a lot of the chemicals were going. The shell plant is huge. My boyfriend and many others that I know have worked there. It helped our economy a lot. But there's a lot of chemicals coming out of those smoked stacks. It's nicknamed the chemical plant. They built a bunch of cancer treatment centers all around it. They just had a big burn off the other day because a chemical was accidentally released.

If it's doing this to the RR workers---what's it doing to the RESIDENTS?
(who have to STAY there all the time, not just for the shorter "clean-up" period)

Workers Cleaning Up Toxic Ohio Train Derailment Are Getting Sick, Rail Union Leader Warns

by Tyler Durden

Thursday, Mar 02, 2023 - 10:49 AM

A top union leader penned a letter to Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg about a number of rail workers at the Norfolk Southern derailment site in East Palestine, Ohio, who have become sick, likely from the toxic chemical spill. CNBC obtained the letter on Wednesday.

Jonathan Long, a union representative for the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees Division of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, titled the letter "Norfolk Southern Is Dangerous to America" and said about 40 workers were ordered by the railway to clean up the wreckage.

Long said workers weren't given proper personal protection equipment to clean up the toxic wreckage. He said many workers weren't supplied respirators, protective clothing, or eye protection.

As a result of the chemical exposure, many rail workers "reported that they continue to experience migraines and nausea, days after the derailment, and they all suspect that they were willingly exposed to these chemicals at the direction of [Norfolk Southern]."

Long added, "This lack of concern for the workers' safety and well-being is, again, a basic tenet of NS's cost-cutting business model."

Norfolk Southern released a statement to CNBC about the cleanup effort. They said:

Meanwhile, the Environmental Protection Agency, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, and the Biden administration have ensured adequate measures have been taken to protect residents and surrounding communities from the toxic chemical spill and controlled burn of vinyl chloride.

But perhaps the EPA and government aren't telling rail workers and residents the truth. That's because rail workers are getting sick, residents complain about health issues, and animals in state parks are dying.

This needs to be bumped up to the first page again. Since the accident my dh and I have been coughing like crazy. He chalks it up to seasonal allergies but I'm not believing it. We were in the direct path of the plume as we are 30 miles N. E. of E. Palestine. I think it was Ms Kitty who posted the screenshot of the plume.

mmm, Rag, honey---

I was talking about the DAM bursting--not the train derailment.

As for THAT, I'm ON it:

Here's video of the START of that derailment:

While there ARE tank cars within the derailed stretch of the train, I couldn't read anything on them as to contents, SO it APPEARS that the HAZMAT dispatch (local fire dept) AND the "Shelter in place" order were done in extra caution. we shall see if they were cautious ENOUGH!!

Apparently "Wayside" in Atlanta (at least) is monitored by some entity wholly separate and apart from Norfolk Southern.

Maybe they have sub-contracted that out?
(and maybe that's a GOOD thing!)

My son has a recording tonight of a man who only identified himself as "Wayside", contacting first the train crew themselves, then saying they'd contact dispatch, about a "hot wheel" that had already passed two defect detectors since leaving Atlanta heading north, but NEITHER detector went off with the customary "DEFECT DETECTED RECORDED, WHEEL # (whatever).

Again the DEFECT DETECTORS DID NOT GO OFF!

BUT--the computers MONITORING the DEFECT DETECTORS DID indicate an overheating wheel--already at 500 DEGREES--and the man contacted the crew.

"Wayside to (train #--not putting this in to protect the railfan's anonymity--but it was here in Atlanta). Out."

(Crew acknowledges call)

(Wayside) "We had a possible hand-brake there, line 9 of your train, wheel-heat in excess of 500 degrees, bearing that's spiking in temperature there, as soon as you can bring it to a safe stop we need to investigate on line 9 and I can give you the car # and axel #."

(Crew responds; takes Wayside's information as to car # and axel # as Wayside reads it out, then crew repeats it).

(Wayside) "Looks like a hand-brake there to me; just make sure there's no visible damage to any bearings there, no leaking grease or anything."

(Crew) All right--(thanks Wayside for notification)

(Wayside): I'll be sending a message to Dispatch (this would be Norfolk Southern dispatch--so THEY DID NOT CATCH IT EITHER!) to let them know."

I do not know who is monitoring the tracks that simply called himself "Wayside"; he is neither a NS employee (at least, not in Dispatch) nor is he part of the crew (because he was TALKING TO the crew) but he NOTIFIED THEM OF THE OVERHEATING WHEEL when NEITHER the defect detector NOR the dispatch caught it.

My son did see on his charts that the crew DID stop the train right after this & checked the wheel; apparently they were able to correct whatever was wrong and they were soon on their way again. About 7:30 pm tonight.

But Biden et al simply outmanevered them, essentially making it impossible to strike without endangering their job. It's hard not to wonder if some of this is sabotage.

looks more like NS shooting themselves in the foot to me--

just like NASA did.

Just hope they don't take out half the country with them before they FIX what wasn't broken BEFORE they "fixed" it...

been saying and thinking this from DAY ONE. they should have struck.

corporate bean counters doing what they do best - destroying entire industries from the inside out. hold down wages. don't replace retirees or positions left absent by advancement, termination, downsizing or employee departure; simply transfer responsibilities to others. delay/deny preventative maintenance. throw the savings up to the boardroom and get your fat bonus for "cost cutting".

we saw it with virtually every other industry. from AMERICAN STEEL and other related heavy industry to NASA. look how it has devastated health care.

corporate greed is alive and well in murKKa. from the 10 MILLION dollar bat mitzvah for David Brooks daughter ARMOR KING CHEATED FOR SON to the $6000 shower curtain in the maids bathroom of TYCO's disgraced CEO Dennis Kozlowski In New 'Tyco Gone Wild' Video Jurors See $6,000 Shower Curtain - WSJ the astounding evidence of corporate malfeasance, greed and excess with disregard for anyone other than themselves is inescapable.

I believe you ladies are actually talking about the same issue - unfair labor practice - specifically what's described in #1038 above. corporate can only "downsize and spread the work load" so much without employee burn out due to individual work load, maintenance issues related to cost cutting and out right lack of employees becasue of working conditions. recall that MUCH of labors concern - their reason(s) to "strike" - were issues related to working conditions:
NO TIME OFF
NO SICK LEAVE - despite COVID
NO VACATIONS
these were issues that had (reportedly) been continuing for Y E A R S
had there been a strile perhaps these issues would have been resolved in an appropriate fashion. as has been said here before . . . we can't say with certainty that this IS sabotage, but we can certainly say this is what sabotage LOOKS LIKE
