The mayonnaise master thread

I have found that a lot of recipes call for mayo. Anything from cakes, chicken, to casseroles. My DH hates mayo but he can never tell when it's in a cooked food. It's great on baked chicken breasts. Just spread mayo, parmesan cheese, seasonings (I like garlic salt & italian seasoning) and some bread crumbs.
When I was very young, my mom was determined to force me to eat mayo. She “hid” it in all kinds of food, but I could always tell. I’d jump up from the table and go throw up. I couldn’t have been more than 5 or so.

The smell kills them.
You're close. I think it actually suffocates them.

Bless your heart, Dennis. I'm sorry to hear that. It's not like it's an important food group or anything. I could see hiding veggies but mayo?

For those who are worried about keeping your mayo cold in a refrigeraterless world, Amazon sells small boxes of mayo packets at reasonable prices. All kinds of condiment packets! I fiqure it's not too bad to toss out 1 pkt of half used mayo than a jar of funky mayo.

Can't have a mater sammich without good mayo!

You beat me to it.

Also, being poor growing up, we had 3 condiments: ketchup, mustard, and mayo.

sometimes Id dip my fries in ketchup and mayo; other times mustard and mayo for a change up.

And if you want to eat a hamburger without the beef, its tomato, mustard, and ketchup.

And for thousand island, you mix all 3 together.

Now, if you want the best grill cheese, put mayo in it and grill it.

The mayo takes on the flavor of cheese a bit and adds to the cheesy goodness.

Why would there be mayo posts on other threads to pull over to this one?

Do I want to know?

And why is this thread 3 pages long already?

This place is weird. It's what I get for hanging out in the war thread all day... :D

I will say, I like my mayo in moderation. Definitely do not slather on a sandwich. Just enough to make a dry bacon sandwich a bit better, or a little on some ham and cheese. I do not need it oozing out the sides.

I do like a good potato salad now and then.

Definitely NO mayo on burgers. That's just reprobate material there.

Egg salad, tuna salad, potato salad, deviled eggs, BLTs, hamburgers, hot dogs, etc etc. Without Mayo the culinary world would be a sad and dry place, rather than rich and creamy.
Have you always had this mayophobia?

If you stopped at this: "Egg salad, tuna salad, potato salad, deviled eggs, BLTs," that would be ok by me. The above you mentioned is the ONLY foods/dishes that I will accept Mayo, but still strongly prefer Miracle Whip in each of those.

I'm allergic to all forms of citrus, so in an attempt to keep my mayo habit I tried several "organic" brands that had vinegar instead of citrus and on that note you are correct. Even OC couldn't stand the smell and this is a guy who loves pickled herring and that other fish dish that's made by soaking the fish in lye. YUCK!
It sounds like you'd not be a fan of hakarl.

first of all, miracle whip states on the bottle, "salad dressing". It's not mayonnaise.
dukes is ok BUT when you bring out the Hellmann's, you bring out the best.
I remember when I was up in Dallas and they opened an In and Out burger place. they're from California. I asked for no mustard or ketchup but i wanted mayonnaise. they told me they have no mayo. I said I don't care what kind of mayo, the little packs is ok. Nope. I don't know how they operate in the south and southwest with no mayo.
My friend from florida hates it when i order corned beef with no mustard but add mayo.

I no longer eat it as its too much fat for me. But we use it regularly at church in cooking. I love to cook there but I rarely eat lol. We put it in casseroles and surprisingly cornbread. Oh and don't forget to add butter AND oil to that cornbread. Tastes heavenly and is a heart attack waiting to happen......

Barrano Krebtree samples a large container of mayonnaise that had been purposely left out on a food preparation table
in the school cafeteria instead of being properly refrigerated after opening the lid. Barrano sniffed the opening and noticed
a repugnant odor. He dug his spoon into the top portion and tasted it. Barrano felt a sharp bitter tang on his tongue and
instinctively knew that this container had reached its full potential due to increased bacterial growth with rancid toxicity.
This mayonnaise will be used in deviled eggs for the students' lunch. After Barrano prepares the food in the kitchen, he
will tell the school janitor to place more rolls of toilet tissue in the bathrooms for the boys and girls since he anticipates
spontaneous emergency evacuations throughout the school day. Barrano is happy to have been hired by the school after
he had been recently fired by McDonald's when many customers had to be hospitalized due to severe food poisoning.
