BTT, we can't let this fade away, it's too much fun!

My bets haven't changed. I think it is either natsec espionage or someone simply stole a bunch of mercury and mailed it off. #2 would explain closing the PO, and the mercury spill at another PO recently. #1 explains the "tower work". Both would involve the FBI.

Any other factual/semi-factual news anyone has heard today other than that the guards now are armed? Any aliens landed in the mountains?

What kind of criminal activity could happen at an Observatory? Pot growing on the mountainside? White powder in envelopes at the Post Office?

Whatever criminal activity it was, why abandon the entire complex, leaving it not open to not only more criminals but to run-of-the-mill trespassers who could damage the observatory? Why not install more security cameras and guards?

And still no idea on what the smell was.

Haven't read the whole thread, so maybe others have thought of this. I think there is a giant CME heading to earth soon and TPTB are trying to keep a lid on the information. Other countries have closed their observatories as well. The Post Office closure and miscellaneous evacuations are just red herrings to fog the situation.

Not to say I agree but, how long would it take for a CME to reach us?
I know there are many sets of eyes focused on the sun.

From Solarham

.24 hr Summary...
Solar activity was very low and the solar disk was spotless. A narrow
CME was observed from behind the west limb in C2 coronagraph imagery
beginning at around 15/1136 UTC, however, this CME appears to be
directed away of the Sun-Earth line.

There are too many amateur observers for a major spot to go unnoticed.

Have they closed their observatives or just cut off public access? I’m sure they haven’t turned off the lights and went home.

Are amateurs capable of making usable observations of the sun?

They made an announcement! Reopening the site Sept 17. It was criminal activity, not much else said.

AURA Statement about the Status of the Sunspot Solar Observatory at Sacramento Peak, New Mexico

September 16, 2018

Sunspot Solar Observatory is transitioning back to regular operations as of September 17th

On September 6th, the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) made the decision to temporarily vacate the Sunspot Solar Observatory at Sacramento Peak, New Mexico as a precautionary measure while addressing a security issue. The facility closed down in an orderly fashion and is now re-opening. The residents that vacated their homes will be returning to the site, and all employees will return to work this week.

AURA has been cooperating with an on-going law enforcement investigation of criminal activity that occurred at Sacramento Peak. During this time, we became concerned that a suspect in the investigation potentially posed a threat to the safety of local staff and residents. For this reason, AURA temporarily vacated the facility and ceased science activities at this location.

The decision to vacate was based on the logistical challenges associated with protecting personnel at such a remote location, and the need for expeditious response to the potential threat. AURA determined that moving the small number of on-site staff and residents off the mountain was the most prudent and effective action to ensure their safety.

In light of recent developments in the investigation, we have determined there is no risk to staff, and Sunspot Solar Observatory is transitioning back to regular operations as of September 17th. Given the significant amount of publicity the temporary closure has generated, and the consequent expectation of an unusual number of visitors to the site, we are temporarily engaging a security service while the facility returns to a normal working environment.

We recognize that the lack of communications while the facility was vacated was concerning and frustrating for some. However, our desire to provide additional information had to be balanced against the risk that, if spread at the time, the news would alert the suspect and impede the law enforcement investigation. That was a risk we could not take.

About Sunspot Solar Observatory

Since late 2017, the Sunspot Solar Observatory Consortium has run the Sunspot Visitors Center as well as daily research activities for the solar community with the Dunn Solar Telescope, in collaboration with The National Solar Observatory (NSO.) AURA, through NSO, continues to manage the site. There are approximately nine New Mexico State University and AURA staff employed at the observatory.

Sunspot Solar Observatory was established on Sacramento Peak in 1947, and is based in Sunspot, NM, in the United States. Sunspot is an unincorporated community in the Sacramento Mountains in Otero County. Named after the nearby solar observatory, Sunspot is located within the Lincoln National Forest, 18 miles south of Cloudcroft, at an elevation of 9200 feet (2800 m).

NSO operated the Dunn Solar Telescope at the observatory from 1969 to 2017, managed by AURA under an agreement with the National Science Foundation (NSF). Beginning in 2016, the New Mexico State University.

They were just keeping it on the down low I guess, didn't want to Alert the suspect? Uh... ok

Here's something from waaaaaay out in right field.....maybe....just maybe it was an actual terrorist threat:bhmo:.

Think about it. Right around 9/11. Isolated, vulnerable, government facility, not really guarded, people/maybe families, the perfect target for a squad of sick rabid islamic thugs. A lot of damage could be done in a very short period of time. UGH!!

Makes as much sense as anything else and would also explain why so many G-Men descended on the scene so suddenly, black helo's, etc., and moved everyone out in short order with NO EXPLANATIONS to the outside world, until they had time to cook one up. The local LEO's didn't know what was going on. NO one locally seemed to have a clue, or they're not talking......yet.

The last thing the Gub wants to do is advertise any kind of real prep's or preemptive strikes against real terrorists inside our own country. And if it was terrorists we'll probably never ever hear about it.

Think about it.....people here in the US would go absolutely apeshit nuts if they really knew how many actual threats are dealt with quickly and quietly on the down low. It's one thing when they are killing people on other continents or flying into buildings in New York City........but if they are actually in your own backyard!! That's a shooting war on our home turf. And the one major thing with Americans is that unlike their foreign European cousins.......WE'RE ARMED TO THE TEETH!!

Isis, Al Qaeda and all those extremist camel jockies are totally nuts to be sure but they're nothing compared to a hard core, dyed in the wool, all American Redneck! If you want to see Americans go total medieval just start some shiite here in the fly over region and there'll a lot of dead middle eastern looking people all across this country. It will make the "Cowboys and Indians" period of our history look like a Saturday picnic on a nice spring day.

I honestly don't know, I'm just saying...if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, looks like a duck, poops like a duck, etc., etc., etc.......probably is a duck. YMMV

Lots of Moslems in new mexico. THEY have been shipping them in. Probably a bunch coming in secretly and as refugees, especially men passing themselves off as Hispanic. Haven't heard about an Islamic threat down here..but who knows.

Sunspot is keeping the guards for a while as it starts back up.

So far none of this is making any sense.

CNN was interested until the reopening was announced...was probably going to spin this as President Trumps fault.

How fast does a coronal mass ejection travel?
A: A coronal mass ejection can make the 93-million-mile journey to Earth in just three to four days. This implies an average speed of about one million miles per hour.May 25, 2007

And actually they DID turn off the lights and go home.

Amateurs don't need to go into the Sunspot Observatory, they are doing this all the time and are DAMN accurate on their info.

I listen to a radio show called Ground Zero. The host is a brilliant guy named Clyde Lewis. It is what many would call doom, woo, conspiracy, etc.

The shows broadcast Sept 11 and 12, dealt heavily with this.

There is a periodic caller who , with voice disguised, calls himself Sam. He claims to be a DAARPA 30 year ex-employee. I've heard him a call in a few times before, and would give his 'inside' information about a 95% accuracy nod. Very informative.

We'll, Sam, essentially warned of a computer hack job during Florence. The Chinese being the bad actors. Sun Spot Observatory was the entry point by the hackers, as it is an unassuming location, but we'll tied into the Big System's intranet.

Less than 24 hours later, a computer 'anomaly' created an extremely dangerous over pressurization of the natural gas infrastructure in the Boston area.

https://m.soundcloud.com/groundzero...fury-w-christopher-fontenot-september-13-2018

Hmmmm.

Now, Sam not only discusses HAARP, but also 2 new-to-me programs. SMACC, and HAMMER. I have listened, and will continue to do so, learning more about these 2 programs. Clyde is on it. Check it out further, should you wish, at groundzeromedia.com

Am I the only one here who listens to Ground Zero? I personally find the show absolutely fascinating, informative, and way ahead of the rest of the places in which I try to educate myself.

Really. The immediately previous post to this is worth a shot.

So, according to Sam, during the hurricane (engineered?) the Chinese hacked our computers for the purpose of blowing up the gas lines in Boston or was that just part of it? The Chinese hacked us for what purpose? Pardon if I'm being dense today!

The observatory was the entry point for the hack into an intranet which ties together HAARP, HAMMER, and SMACC. Those are utilizing Tesla's Theories on weather manipulation and had roots in Project Aurora in 1954. The overpressure natural gas line was a side hack from the observatory, which gave up the entry point and closed the facility.

That's what I came away with, generally.

Also, the near complete stall out of advancing motion of the hurricane is attributed to manipulation.

Food for thought, and a double barrel load of clandestine conspiracy. I'm down with that.

Child pornography reason behind Sunspot Observatory closure, according to court documents

A federal search warrant reveals that Sunspot Solar Observatory was shut down as FBI agents conducted computer forensic searches for child pornography.

The source of child pornography was traced to an IP address used at the observatory and a source within the building observed a computer with "not good" images on it, the warrant states.

An investigation by the FBI revealed that a janitor is the main suspect in the search, however he has not been charged with a crime even though his name in on the warrant.

The warrant states the suspect would use the observatory Wifi and a personal laptop to download the child pornography.

A limited number of people have access to the observatory from dusk until dawn, which helped narrow their search.

The observatory in the mountains of southern New Mexico had been closed since Sept. 6 because of an undisclosed security concern, but reopened on Monday.

WTF?! This makes even less sense than the last story! Why in hell would you evacuate seversl nearby resident families for child porn on a computer in a facility? And keep the place totally evacuated for sevral days... not to mention keeping the local sheriff completely in the dark?!

Was there even anything taken from the building by the fibbers... er, agents? Seems normal procedure woukd be a surprise raid with a warrant, clear the building and then take whatever computer equipment is believed to be involved in the crime...

How stupid do they think we are.. or maybe its "how stupid ARE the peopke working fir the FBI these days? Is this the result if diversity hiring, or what?

Yup just like 70 homes blew up because of 6 psi in the natural gas service lines.

It’s so clearly a stupid excuse that you almost can’t believe they said it.

Yeah FBI raids a remote site...evacuates people...flies Blackhawk helicopters overhead for a couple of days...black out to the media and local sheriff....for a laptop with porn.

Yup it all makes sense. No one cares but locals and the few who are following up

Me thinks that as part of the security sweep for whatever they were really there for they found kiddie porn on the janitor's laptop. Probably had no connection to why they were there, but arrested him for it in the process. And now are using that as the reason for the whole shebang since his arrest is conveniently on record. jmho, ymmv.

Not aliens after all? Mysterious solar observatory closure triggered by FBI child porn probe

Despite much speculation and conspiracy theories, the reason for the mysterious closure of New Mexico’s Sunspot Solar Observatory by the FBI earlier this month was an ongoing child pornography investigation, court documents show.

The secret behind the 11-day closure of the facility was finally explained in newly unsealed FBI records and its application for a search warrant. According to the court documents, the federal agents were investigating a janitor suspected of using the observatory’s WiFi network to download child pornography.

Authorities launched an investigation after a tip-off from a source within the observatory who stumbled upon a computer with images described as “not good.” After narrowing the list of suspects, the FBI discovered that a personal laptop was used to access prohibited content via the internal network.

The suspect, however, has not yet been detained or charged with anything, even though his name was mentioned on the warrant, according to KTSM.

The Sunspot Solar Observatory, located in the mountains of southern New Mexico, was abruptly shut down on September 6 without any public explanation by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, which runs the facility. The staff of the observatory, a local post office, and those who live on the site were all evacuated. While it was later explained that the facility was shut due to “security concerns,” the vague explanation and cloud of secrecy surrounding the closure led social media users to explore conspiracy theories.

Many wondered if scientists at the astronomical observatory, designed for the study of the sun, could have found signs of alien life. Others thought that the scientists might have discovered an imminent lethal solar flare. Some even suspected the state of a government cover-up, recalling how the Pentagon finally admitted last year to running a long-secret UFO investigation program, which allegedly ended in 2012.

Unbelievable! I had to read it twice and yes, it is insulting plus, it was on purpose.

These smug, gov./sci elites threw out this ridiculous story to insult those who dared to question and came up with a scenario of their own:

Smug gov.1: "How dare the public question our actions!"

Smug gov.2: "If they want a reason? We'll give them a reason!"

Smug guv.3: "Yeah well, make it a safe but shocking one, because we do have to get back there." ("After The Smell goes away of course.")
