FBI, according to https://www.fbi.gov/investigate, has jurisdiction over violent crimes, cybercrime, white collar crime, organized crime, civil rights, WMD's (in the country), and counterintelligence.

ETA: I am leaning towards counterintelligence. If the Sheriff's Dept is involved at all, that would be a reason for leaving them out of the loop.

Maybe there was a crime ring or infiltrating force running under the observatory's cover? But here's another thought: What if another agency is using false FBI credentials?

Looks like mostly visual observation not radio telescopes. If you wanted to hack a satellite you would not need the antenna you could source your own or you would just hack the computer that controls the satellite.

This is located relatively close to the southern border. It's a "high spot". Cartels are well known to use clandestine radio repeater networks, including the most modern stuff, LTE, digital trunking, encryption, etc. They are also known to secretely place their repeaters on other legimate repeater tower or handy poles/towers at convenient sites that just blend in with normal operations.

This sounds the most likely. Someone taking advantage of a high spot. I doubt it was spying on the base because if the was the case you would have more AF personal running around vs fbi.

Not buying the tons of liquid mercury story. Mercury doesn't just show up in nature; it requires extensive processing from cinnabar, a mineral. If it's a solar observatory, there may be some data showing up that doesn't at all match the warming climate change narrative. Other than that, I'm clueless. Most likely it is drugs, since it's so close to the border.

It also appears that this is not the first time they've closed the observatory to visitors.

Would not surprise me to see this site closed permanently AND access to the top of the mountain as well. IIRC didn't they close the last spot(mountaintop) from which you could see down upon Area 51 in Nevada a few back.

I gather that the mercury at this particular site isn't used as a lensing material but rather as a bearing. From Wikipedia for the Dunn Solar Telescope (one of the telescopes there - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_B._Dunn_Solar_Telescope): "The interior vacuum tube of more than 200 tons is suspended by a bearing that contains 8 to 10 metric tons of mercury. I can't tell you anything about WHY this is going on, but I can say that there might be more here than meets the eye. I live north and east of Cloudcroft, about where the Sacramento Mountains and the Capitan Mountains come to a junction with one another. So, let me tell you my story and maybe there might be some kind of connection.

On Friday the 7th (or possibly late Thursday the 6th) I lost my internet service. What's important to know is that my internet company provides most ALL internet services and comms to ALL of the White Sands Facilities PLUS Holloman Air Force Base. They also provide the same to several other AFBs and mil facilities in NM and TX. This internet system is unique/unusual, it is satellite connected with a ground based satellite system, has to do with some kind of transponders no one wants to talk about. Anyway, my area was in need of internet services, this company stepped up to the plate to provide service and built what you could call a little spur off their BIG mil system.

So, back to Friday the 7th. At first no internet seemed unusual, we probably have the best internet system ever, fast, just awesome system, never down, no problems, again, awesome system. I looked up the companys phone number, called them to report the outage, they knew, told me the 'tower techs' were on the way to fix it. The in-office tech told me that usually they could fix things remotely, but, the antenna system seemed to have issues that needed the tower techs. A little later, 3-4 hours or so, a local friend texted me that the 'towers' must have gotten hit by lightning or something, she heard - lots of 'fried' stuff in their little computer shacks up on Buck Mountain - due west of me. Well, that story might be OK if we had, had a lightning storm, but we did not. We have one of their little computer shacks/with a large tower not all that far from me, located next to a BIG water tank that supplies the local town, couple miles, what the hell, I took a drive over to see if that place was OK, and guess what, it was not, had a lot of damage as well.

I got my internet back yesterday evening, the system as a whole is operational, they threw together some kind of 'portable' equipment using enclosed trailers, hauled it up to where the 'fried shacks' were, hooked it up to the towers/antennas that they had to replace to get things back up and running. As I understand things from a few people, they now have some mil types guarding all this stuff. So with all I have said, I think there has been some large type of sabotage done here in our mountains, and maybe it's the reason the FBI has come to play here, and maybe the same applies to what's going on over Sunspot way. Just my 2 cents, take it however you will.

Perhaps both of the towers were taken out by some sort of space-based weapon. Perhaps by the Chinese or (less likely) the Russians. That might account for the evacuations, as a precaution. Or perhaps the "evacuations" were to remove a possible saboteur.

Maybe the difference between the stuff with my internet company vrs Sunspot might be something as simple as Sunspot is more of a manned/staffed location. Meaning that someone was there when someone showed up to do damage??? A confrontation??? It might not have anything to do with Sunspot, but did have to do with more sabotage to one of the best telecommunication systems in the county.

Let me make a little more of that 'makes sense stuff'. On the Friday before the Sept 7th outage of our internet, the 31st of August, we had our first outage, it lasted from the 31st to Sept. 4th. Late in the afternoon on the 4th we got our internet back. It came back after they built the first 'mobile trailer', that tower was located on the Capitan Mountains, it supposedly suffered a 'lightning hit', yadda-yadda story that we got like the Buck Mountain story. The Capitan Mountain tower is not all that accessible, takes 4WD to get to it, the BuckMountain tower is even tougher to get to, they use UTVs to get to it, and I guess the UTV thing also applies to that tower over at Sunspot.The Capitan Mountain tower transmits signal to/fro the Buck Mountain tower and another tower very close to the Sunspot tower, of which is also 'fried', and now has one of those 'mobile trailers', they obviously are like repeaters used in ham radio. Maybe the AF 'lifted' one of those 'mobile trailers' to the Sunspot tower, ie the mentioning of the 'black' HCs in the area??? I just have these bits and pieces of all this stuff that I thought about and put together, whether I am right/wrong is a coin toss. I can say that all of the area that surrounds where I am located is VERY important to national security, and all this stuff that has been going on over the past couple weeks made me put it together the way I have it so far. When you think about Fort Bliss, Holloman AFB, White Sands, the VLArrys, Cannon AFB, and a few other places and bases, it sure adds up to the possibilities I have mentioned. Sabotage is certainly a quieter methodology over a few incoming missiles.

And there you have it. Most of this stuff sits high on top of the mountains, with a decent small hand-held telescope you can see much of it from where I am located at 7~8K ft, esp the antenna towers. There are more of these complexes in several of the mountains that are in my area. ALL of them also have the same telecoms supplied by my internet company.

Or maybe the deep state . . Evacs might be to get people out of the way to catch someone doing their deeds in what appears to be kind of a path of stepping stones from one tower to the next, etc. And as you end with your ideas, a safe removal from a bad situation where someone on the inside ran outa time to get away.

On another note, I personally know the Otero County Sheriff, Benny, he is a great guy, very committed to We the People, etc. He and the Feds have a bit of strain between their agencies, they left him out of the know to screw with him.

I'm sure this is totally unrelated but I'll share anyway. Our local Postal distribution center in Coppell, TX was shut down because someone mailed mercury and it spilled. They had to evacuate and then clean up the mercury before reopening the center. This was August7th. I think it has been reopened.

I'm down in cloudcroft new Mexico now. Everyone is talking about the mystery at the observatory,
Fbi showed up in Blackhawk last Thursday w orders all personnel evacuate immediately in 15 minutes due to security issue.

Fib refused to tell sheriff what's going on. I talked to a deputy this am said they've been told nothing. He was pretty ticked off.

I went to the obs yesterday there is a temp stop sign at entrance w a caution banner across the entrance. My nephew and I went on the site and spent some time looking around. Its a ghost town

When we got back to the entrance a youtube video guy showed up for his channel and another guy brought a drone. Several tourists showed up expecting to see the observatory surprised it was closed.

The utube guy has his videos up not anything new

Lots of theories so far.

Also Blackhawk helicopters keep showing up.

A store clerk in cloudcroft said he had a Blackhawk over his house. Never seen that before. Plus my nephew has friends sho saw 4 of these in formation today over sunspot. So seems something still going on.
