I bought some today $25 for 6 jars. Our WM had them for $15, and they only had two. Quart jar flats also $15. Pretty pricey. Might start saving marinara jars for some things.

I haven't been inside WM to buy groceries in over 2 years since they started offering grocery pickup. I hate shopping.OK, I'm hooked on Walmart pickup! I placed another order, and everything I wanted was in stock except for a curtain rod that the cats broke and Great Value pizza sauce, but on the latter they asked if they could substitute Ragu, and that was fine with me.
The young man who brought my bags out was very friendly and pleasant; he said that many people were buying large amounts of stuff, probably prepping.
I wanted a few sale items from Publix, but they were out of most of them. (I decided to do my shopping today rather than tomorrow, figuring with the holiday weekend the stores would be crowded tomorrow and stock would be depleted.) No cherries, but Aldi had them, and for $2 less per pound than the Publix sale price. No 2% milk at Aldi, and a half gallon of milk is now almost $3. I only needed 3 things at Aldi, so I didn't look around much.
So much of the produce I've been buying has been bad, so I'm now keeping my receipts to get a refund. I've given up on melons this year - they're awful.
Best deal of the day: A free cheeseburger from the Sonic app with a half price drink.
For anyone who has access to Rural King stores, our local store has a whole pallet full of half-gallon jars sitting in the main aisle - $12.99. Nearby there are plenty of other jar sizes too.FYI: For those still interested in 1/2 gallon mason jars. Local WalMart website (SE MI) still had them yesterday for $12.00 and some change.
I was wondering the same thing. This is bigger than just a couple of people. What kind of facilities would hold that much beef? Another commercial operation of some kind? Seems like a good team of detectives could figure it out.Who is running that beef-jacking racket? That stuff has to make it into another reefer or freezer unit that is either mobile or fixed somewhere. It just seems like a huge job. If there is not a forklift and loading dock to unload and transfer, then it would take a lot of bodies to do it by hand. We've got serious enemies operating right in our midst.
I can ditto Aldi bacon. It’s very very good,I'm not a huge bacon fan, but I love Aldi's center cut bacon! IMO it's the best bacon out there.
Pretty darned sketchy.I was wondering the same thing. This is bigger than just a couple of people. What kind of facilities would hold that much beef? Another commercial operation of some kind? Seems like a good team of detectives could figure it out.
There can't be that many places with the capacity to store that much meat. This almost screams old time Mafia of some kind.
You could have used the same recipe with chicken thighs or legs and paid 1/3 of what you paid and gotten twice as much meat.I paid $17.98 for 4 lbs of frozen chicken wings at Kroger’s. Yeah I am stupid, but the craving was fierce!

Not really used to do some truck to truck transfers when I was younger. One truck backs up to the other with both doors open a sixty pound steel plate is dropped to make a path between trucks. Two guys with pallet jacks could transfer everything from one to the other in less than 40 minutes.Who is running that beef-jacking racket? What dehydrator are you using? Do you have it set up with solar? You mentioned you don't use electricity for it (unless I read that wrong.) Do you thaw the frozen veg and put it b/w some towel to get some of the water out first? I've not dehydrated from frozen.Walmart near us was well stocked with ball jars. ..did the mandatory grab of a couple cases..try to get a few each time we go..prices high ...have a lot but I add some every time we go....way to expensive but now...who really knows what the future will hold...better safe that sorry comes to mind.
Want get more frozen veggies to dehydrate...easiest and cheapest way to do veggies...plus they take no electricity and less space to store. My dehydrator the takes a pound a tray...then vacumn seal in canning jars....
Central Virginia
Not time to can tomatoes and berries yet...that will come soon.
Captain Jim Duering is urging drivers to make sure their trucks and trailers are secure until their relief arrives. He also urges that if anyone has information about the stolen trucks and trailers to contact the Grand Island Police Department.

A few days ago, I bought a trimmed Boston Butt from a regional grocery chain for $1.79 a pound, which is the price when they trim it before sale (would have been $1.39 if I would have bought a twin pack, untrimmed).
FYI, Southern Breeze, it was Food Giant. You all have that store up your way, too, in case you want to run catch the sale before it ends tomorrow night.
It was already trimmed before it was put into the meat case.
There is just me and my DW, so I asked the butcher to slice the trimmed butt into 3/4 inch slices for me - which they will do at no charge if you ask them.
It is too hot to bake a butt in the daytime, with all this hot, summer weather.
In fact, it is too hot to bake an entire butt period. Even in the middle of the night.
So what I did was, I took each individual slice of the meat - still a good sized piece of meat - and I wrapped each piece carefully in foil.
Then I took my largest metal baking pans and layed the foil wrapped meat out on the pan. The pans were large enough that only one fit on a single rack in the oven.
The butt was big enough that I barely had enough space in my oven for all the meat slices, but I did manage to fit them all in, single layering them on the pans, of course.
Then I slow cooked them at 325 degrees for 1 hour.
When I took them out, they were hot, juicy, and very tender.
We ate some of the meat with a salad and some southern peas right away. Then I let the rest of the foil covered meat slices cool.
After they cooled, I put the foil packets in a big, freezer type Ziploc bag, and put them in thr refrigerator.
I just served Boston Butt for our 4th of July picnic.
It was so easy. I pulled a couple of meat packets out of the refrigerator, put them over my gas grill to warm them, and then served the warm, juicy meat with some pork-n-beans and some cole slaw.
Easy, quick to prepare meal in this 90-something degree heat, and totally delicious when served.
We have already eaten two meals off the butt. I figure we have four more meals for each of us, on that one big piece of meat that cost me less than 18 dollars. That is about $1.50 per plateful of meat, and it was pretty easy to prepare, too.
Might be the time to look into distilling your own. Get a hose that will fit on stem of pressure canner and fill with water and boil off into catchment container. I have an electric distiller so I can make colloidal silver. Should work till the grid goes down. Will have to check to see if it draws too much for the solar, tho. If it does, I have an ancient pressure cooker I can use for the purpose. Think outside the box, you are a prepper after all. It’s a problem here, too. And I need it for the cpap because my village water is terrible.

Just because of you all I bought, and tried Duke brand of “condiment” because it was on sale.
It is wonderful!
Did I miss your homecoming? Great to see you! Now we will get the real news for sure!Got into Duke's when we lived in FL on a friend's recommendation. I love it too. But Hellman's is still the best, IMO.
Went to Wegmans yesterday. Couldn't believe how expensive everything is, but that's everywhere.
Edit: Can't believe I just saw a commercial on TV -- Jeep Grand Wagoneer -- Only $90,000 !!! LOL
If you have an Amish store near you, you can still buy deli meat and cheese there at half price what you pay at the grocery store.Grocery report.
Went in the latter afternoon, usually a morning shopper. Not sure if that was the difference.
There were a lot of people wearing masks again, especially the young (college age to under 40). It felt quite strange. Also pretty sure I saw two (separately) liberal women I used to know through different affiliations.
Both appeared not to see me, even though I had no mask, they both did. It was just weird. At first, I was a bit offended, but then I realized we've got zero to talk about nowadays anyway.
What's odd is I haven't seen anyone I know in the grocery store in years, it seems.
The place was well stocked, maybe a few things were missing. Like store brand sliced cheeses, those were cleaned out. Regional stuff was there and decently stocked. Produce was the most stocked that I've seen it in a long time. Got everything, had to get organic broccoli because that's all there was.
Even found pickling spice! That was nowhere to be found at the bigger store last week.
Other than forgetting to buy bread and jelly I got everything I set out for, a big list too. Used store coupons and saved $13.
Only bad part was the deli, trying to get beef bologna. Took the 3-4 of them a few minutes to wait on me.
'Training in progress.'
Woman says to me, 'that was a half of a pound?'
Me: One pound, please!
Her: after about 3 minutes trying to get the slicer working, an automated slicer. She switched to the other automated slicer.
Her: Starts piling up my pound of bologna. Then begins taking it off the pile, bring it to a half pound.
Me: Oh hey, I wanted a whole pound please.
Her: 'I thought you said half.' As she groans.
Her: Starts piling bologna back on. Then begins slicing more, making it 1.3 pounds. Over. More groaning.
Her: Finally weighs and labels my package at 1.06 pounds.
Glad that was really the only bad part. And wow, are sandwich meats flippin' expensive now. Most of it in the $8.99 to $12.99 price range.
