Was at Walmart today (Eastern VA) and commented to the cashier about the rise in grocery prices. She told me that as of July 1, Walmart was increasing their prices of everything by 10%. I asked her if she meant food items only, and she said it was everything storewide. FWIW

I hope she’s wrong.

I usually just shop once a month which would be July 7. I decided that I'll try to go tomorrow to avoid July 4 and the lack of stuff in the stores after the 4th. I really need to rethink first of the month shopping anyway due to so many getting benefits then. Many years ago, I organized my spending so I always have a month ahead expense money in my checking account. I did this before I retired and it has served me well because it means I can do July's shopping tomorrow without messing up my bank account.

How can Walmart increase prices 10%? That will totally mess up .gov's 8% inflation rate -- like we believe the 8% anyway!!! :bhd:

The organic peanut butter that I ordered from vitacost came today. It didn't cost any more than what the grocery store is charging. I may order 4 more jars and keep it in the coolest place in the house.

Thank you Terrwyn for reminding me about ordering from vitacost.

Stanley (the thermos company) makes a pretty beefy and big one -48oz. It's insulated so it's supposed to keep your coffee hot for a while too. I don't have one yet, but I plan on ordering one this weekend. Lots of good reviews on it. Not cheap, but seems like it's worth it.

So I ordered it this weekend and it came yesterday. Haven't used it yet, but it is built like a tank. Everything seems really high quality. It will keep coffee hot for 4 hours. And it is dishwasher safe.

I will never shop at Kroger again no matter how good their prices are. I just posted a story about them removing all pro American merchandise from their stores

Thank you for posting! I’ll try to go later today but like you, I’ve just about run out of freezer space.
Darn it! I need to pull out the silly stuff to make more room.

Some may need digital coupons but they let you buy, at the coupon price if you FIRST tell them you can't download the coupons

I got signed up for digital coupons this spring, thanks to a member here alerting me to do so.
:)

Those can be really good if you keep up with what’s offered. I just clip most of them even if I don’t really need it right away.

You gotta have the Fred Meyer card (free) and down load the digital coupon or else tell them before you check out you cant get the coupons to downlad and they will give it to you at the much lower digital price (if its an item that also has a digital coupon!)
After you get your groceries, get your gas there, because you get a chunk of change
discount per gallon, the more you buy the bigger the gas discount. up to a dollar off a gallon.

On my WW run yesterday I noticed a couple of other things - Walmart Brand Natural Peanut Butter - all expiration dates to expire within a week - all the name brands dated 2023+. Frozen chicken breasts was 1.99/lb now 2.50/lb but they looked wrong - like frozen-thawed-refrozen color was definitely off.

Wal Mart, central Alabama, Wednesday, 22. No grapes of any kind, i had asked my son to get some peaches, he brought in some that were about the size of large plums, said these were the biggest they had.

If you all haven't done the surveys usually offered at the bottom of the Kroger receipts (not sure about Fred Meyer), you can do one a month for an extra 50 points on your card, I believe. Every little bit helps!

I heard a lot about stuff coming off the containers from china after sitting offshore - I checked all the Peanut butter Jars (WM brand) and they all were the same date. I wonder if they were part of that.

Today was my big shopping day. The Lowe's store in the medium sized town had the bagged rock I wanted, the store in the Big Town did not, so I went to the medium town where I don't usually go.
I got the last box of generic Lucky Charms at Aldi, can't let dh run out of his junk cereal... They didn't have any of the generic Little Debbie cakes I like, and very little lemon juice. the only thing that didn't have a significant price increase was my goat cheese.
The local grocery had none of the specialty peanut butter that dh eats, and the RC's which were on sale, were wiped out.
I don't like this WM because I can't find anything. I walked thru the food aisles twice and never did find the juice. I don't know if they didn't have any or I just couldn't find it. They didn't have any vitamin A. Store I went to last week was out as well. Last week they had no stevia, this week it was stocked, but it went up $1 a box in 2 weeks. Spam went up 30 cents a can since last week. They barely had enough canned cat food for me to replace what the guys ate last week. They did have a little bit of cat food but not in the brats preferred flavors. I got so aggravated that I forgot the main thing I went after, which was chicken strips.
Did manage to get 3 cases of dog food so at least the animals all got something to eat.

I went to Harris Teeter in Easton MD this morning. Fully stocked except for diet caffeine free Pepsi that was on sale. Plenty of produce, meat, cheese, eggs, milk, etc..

Pinesol went from $4.50 per 48oz bottle to $5.29 per bottle at the City Target in downtown Portland. One year ago it was $3.50 per bottle. All cleaning products are 20% more than last year.

Because of this thread I started looking for jars. even on Walmart.com not available or $41. When I found it available I put it in the cart it said check local store for availability not available for shipping.

I found some at a store within a reasonable distance for $13.97. I left some but bought 4.

I also tried Ace hardware. None of the local stores had any in store. Available for shipping $253.00-that’s a no way in he**.

Neither here nor there.
For the autistic son, could you possibly use the trays the lunchables come in and have him help you make his lunch from purchased ingredients. Some autistic kids really like to count and organize. I realize this is meltdown territory, but what if lunchables become unavailable? It seems like every time I shop something I want is missing.

I have a couple of friends who use these with their kiddos, it made a huge difference with their food intake.

This doesn't surprise me in the least, the investors are not going to take a hit just because the rest of us are. NOTE those investors are not just the board members they're also your 401K, TIAA-CREF, etc.

Many stores DONT CARRY VITAMIN A any more becaise of morons
because you can easily OVERDOSE ON IT. You NEVER take more than ONE Vitamin A.

They carry BETA- CAROTENE which is a SAFE vitamin A, you cant overdose on it, because your body only immediately turns it into Vitamin A, but only as much as your body NEEDS.

ITS VITAMIN A for Morons. BETA CAROTENE IS THE PRECURSOR VITANIN A FOUND IN CARROTS you can take all you want. .

BEARS have true vitamin A in DANGEROUS LEVELS in their Liver, so you CAN DIE eating BEAR LIVER!
ALL LIVER CONTAINS REAL VITAMIN A but not like bear liver, you cant overdose on vitamin A eating chicken, beef, or pork liver.

Just a heads up, for those of you that didn't know.

Went up to the local/regional chain (N MN) for a quick grocery run - only needed a few things, too hot to head all the way to Walmart for a pickup, and was simply not organised enough this morning.

Haha. Benefit...got to park my trusty-dusty Chevy pickup next to somebody's shiny red, gorgeous Jaguar. Man..she was purty! I figure some off-season homie mega-mill pro-hockey player summering at the lake nearby. Didn't catch who owned her, but met a mighty-awful-smiley buff young cutie coming out of the store when I was going in. He was wearing suspiciously clean, new-looking Carhartt bibbies. Maybe he was the one. (Yes, he had a shirt on underneath!)

Anyway...they had NY Strip for $8.88/lb, so I nabbed a few. Noticed their $3.49/lb 80% burger was flying out the door and constantly being restocked.

Yeeks..salad makings are getting expensive - would pay for anybody to spade up a strip of grass and grow a row of spinach and romaine, along with maybe some cukes and green onions.

I found off-name dried pasta for 1.29/lb so grabbed a few lbs of rotini for cold salads. I don't use much of it, and not worth breaking into the LTS macaroni or spaghetti. If I go by that way again, I might pick up some more. In their weekly ad this week, the store is really promoting store brands again.

Noticed that the convenience baking stuff is stocked pretty thin, also packaged cheese, like shredded parm, mozzarella, cheddar.

Miracle Whip - sale price is up to 2 big (30 oz?) jars for $8.00. But...it's summer salad and soon BLT season, so....there ya go.
Oh...and no limits on anything.

Found another TWO LOAVES of Thomas Cinnamon- raison bread from COSTCO.with
EXPIRATION DATE FEB 26 2022 SOFT, NO MOLD, OPENED- SMELLS FRESH, ATE TWO PIECES TASTED FRESH AND GOOD!

I THINK Cinnamon and raisons must have some anti bacterial or antifungal properties for BREAD TO LAST FOUR MONTHS!

It would be interesting to make HOME MADE BREAD AND ADD CINNAMON AND RAISONS TO IT, COOL,AND WRAP IT UP IN A ZIP LOCK BAG AND SEE IF IT GOES MOLDY IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS!

Read the label. "Store bread" like that contains chemical preservatives.

The loaves came out of the freezer at the bakery. I used to see these when I worked for the company and asked my supervisor about it. Common enough practice, but the expiration date...that should not have been sold. Used to be they would ship it to the Outlet stores (no longer a thing), or donated it to a local food bank. Of course, it's been years since I was in the business so things could have changed, but I believe selling out of date product is still something that isn't allowed.

I went to town to shop today. For our area traffic was absolutely crazy both on the highway and in town. If people are worried about gas prices it didn't show!! Walmart had pallets of "stuff" in the aisles but not in the food aisles. Canned foods were better stocked than last time I shopped, but still thin on fruit. Aldi looked like it had been attacked by a plague of locusts. All areas except paper goods and cereal aisles were sketchy. There was flour and sugar and canned vegetables but little pasta or pasta sauce and little canned fruit. There was bread but definitely empty holes and prices are up again. Hardly any chicken and none of chicken breast. By hardly any I mean two packages of legs and two whole chickens. Cottage cheese and yogurt were scarce and milk and eggs were depleted but still available. They still did not have condensed sweetened milk and very little condensed milk. Most deli stuff was gone but cheeses were well stocked. Case with tubes of biscuits etc. were very scarce and condensed to a very small amount on part of one shelf.

One of my primary goals on this trip was to stock up on cereal which I was able to do. Aldi prices are still very reasonable which I'm sure will not last, so I wanted to get a supply into my pantry. With all the warnings about grain shortages this seemed to be the time. Oatmeal was $2.55 for a large box -- the same size box of Quaker oats at the local store is over $9 and store brand is $7. I didn't look at Walmart to compare prices.

Walmart OTC vitamins and supplements seemed to be well stocked, but OTC meds were not. I was able to get everything I wanted and personal supplies as well. The things in that area that I did not buy were due to price.
