ok people we have not had any really bad weather yet Waite until this happens then you may feel free to freak out...

i was 18 when this happened and remember it well ..

what has happened in the last few days was just a wake up call..

Ah yes. A year before I was born, actually. My folks had enough stories of the Blizzard of 78 to last a lifetime.

But even they could say 78 wasn't a patch on last winter, when the temperatures dropped to -50 with the wind chill. When the temperatures went below zero, and stayed there, for TWO SOLID DAYS. When "normal" temperatures in the upper 20s looked like a fantasy respite.

Mid-70's were the most recent large solar minimum before the solar uptick through 2000.
Sliding in to a couple of decades worse than the 70's.

I remember being in a small town that was snowed in for about four days. You couldn't even find your way around in town because of the wind-driven snow. We had three severe winters in a row, 78-80 IIRC.
