KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Missouri health leaders have confirmed the state’s first probable case of monkeypox in Kansas City.

Health officials did not identify the patient by name, age or gender, but say the person is a Kansas City resident with recent out-of-state travel history.

Initial testing was completed June 18, 2022, at the Missouri State Public Health Laboratory, and confirmatory testing for monkeypox is pending at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Based on initial epidemiologic characteristics and the positive orthopoxvirus result at the state laboratory, health officials consider this a probable monkeypox infection.

“This week, one of our excellent nurses suspected one of our patients may have monkeypox virus,” said Dr. Marvia Jones, Director of the Kansas City Health Department. “We are considering this a probable case of monkeypox virus until we receive final confirmation from the CDC labs. We appreciate the work our disease investigation and nursing staff have done to educate themselves on this rare virus and be on alert for it.”

Kansas City disease investigators are working to determine if the patient may have been in contact with any individuals while infectious. Health officials will notify anyone deemed at risk of exposure. ...

Seal the deal before June 23.

Change the name, call it racism, and get bots to filter for misinformation.

Change the distinction between endemic (Africa) and nonendemic (all other countries) and add all the case totals together to confuse the numbers over time.

“We are removing the distinction between endemic and non-endemic countries, reporting on countries together where possible, to reflect the unified response that is needed,” the organization said in its monkeypox outbreak situation update dated Friday but sent to media on Saturday.

Between January 1 and June 15, 2,103 confirmed cases, a probable case and one death have been reported to the WHO in 42 countries, it said in a statement. The Geneva-based UN health agency is due on Thursday to hold an emergency meeting to determine whether to classify the global monkeypox outbreak as a public health emergency of international concern.

Such incomprehensible bullshit should wake up a few of the remaining multitude......
The problem is I don’t know a single soul, outside of TB that even knows about the current pox outbreak let ALONE what the idiots “in charge” are blathering about.

The paradigm shift in monkeypox epidemiology

A wake-up call as many questions beg for answers in the race to curtail spread.

Olanrewaju Oladimeji , Bamidele Atiba & Oyewale Tomori
...

The current global monkeypox outbreak has thrown doctors, epidemiologists, and infectious disease experts off-balance. Unlike previous outbreaks, the world is seeing hundreds of infections outside of Africa...

Why do we have outbreaks in multiple countries (more than 23 countries at last count)? Why do these cases occur, mainly outside endemic West and Central Africa? Was the monkeypox disease spreading undetected in the west, and could this explain why, so far, none of the current cases has been traced to an endemic country? Why is there a higher incidence in gay and bisexual populations? Answers to these questions and many more will help epidemiologists ,infectious disease experts and clinicians find a solution to a suspected shift in the epidemiology of the disease.
...
The natural reservoir of monkeypox remains unknown. However, African rodents and non-human primates (such as monkeys) can harbor the virus and infect humans3. For many years, monkeypox was endemic only in Africa, until the first case outside of Africa was reported in 2003ref.4,5. Since then, there have been pockets of intermittent outbreaks in America, Europe, and Asia, most of which can be traced back to African origins, either through travel or importing animals6. The latest outbreak, however, is not following the same pattern – with epidemiologists suspecting transfer to people who have not been to Africa.

A large number of these infections have occurred in bisexuals and men who have sex with men6, suggesting the possibility of sexual transmission. This suggestion cannot be dismissed, even if it does not support the already known epidemiology of the disease. This may involve new knowledge and previously unknown facts. Examples of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases that were later found to be potentially sexually transmitted were the Zika and Ebola virus diseases. These viruses were later isolated from semen, vaginal fluids, and breast milk to confirm the possibility of their sexual and postnatal mother-to-child transmission8-12.
...
With the ongoing outbreaks in non-endemic countries, evidence suggesting sexual transmission, and incidents outside of endemic geographic areas, such as those seen recently in Nigeria, there may be an ongoing change in monkeypox epidemiology.
...
Therefore, we call for further research to confirm the sexual transmission of monkeypox and share insight on the association of HIV with sexual transmission.

Let’s all make a guess about what they decide...hmmm, I’m going with everyone wears a mask...

If they were going to announce anything major, we would have seen media stories priming the herd. There's virtually nothing. These orchestrators are not amateurs, and if they're going to shift the herd they're going to warm it up first.

If they want to move the herd on zero notice, it's going to take an emergency of a whole other order of magnitude than just another plague, because we're pretty plagued out. That's why I'm surprised at the monkeypox story. I was expecting something much different, bigger, and faster. It might still come to pass.

But if it's to be monkeypox, they'll need some warming up. So from the Thursday meeting I look for gentle guidance on masks perhaps, and warnings that this might get out of hand but not yet. And the urgency and lockdowns will come after the infection has gotten deeper into the herd.

I'm predicting lockdowns by end of September at the latest, but don't know how they plan to go there.

If they wanted to prime the herd this thing would be on every major news media source 24/7 just like COVID was. I'm still watching to see how it continues to develop, but I haven't changed my mind that's it's not going to be as widespread as COVID. It's not spreading fast enough, and still being transmitted mostly in the gay/bisexual community.

An alternative narrative might be to keep pushing up fuel prices so that trucking collapses. A lot of people will be stuck at home if they can't afford to get to work. Cut down on food distribution and toss in a few riots, and that will effectively keep a lot of people at home, as well.

I think we'll know better on Thursday. In the meantime, I'm trying to stay positive and think about other things. It's in the high 90s here and I can't play outside as much as I would like right now.

Breathe deeply and with a calm heart wait for Thursday.
LOL! I was half way done remindin' ya we'd agreed there was no need for cryptic/secret club type comments
...then I recalled on my own that the WHO was meeting on the 23rd, at which time our UNELECTED OVERLORDS will be making a ruling from on high wrt: da MonEyPox.
:: posts this in small chance some other readers have also forgotten the timetables for this and/or missed the reference ::

I still don't think this pox is the route they'd take for a lockdown; they are comfortably ensconced upon their imperial thrones at this point. If they deem it prudent to ground us to our rooms again, they won't bother with plausible lies, they'll just issue the orders like any other banana republic.

Time will tell eh.

Please note this is confirmed daily cases for the 24 hr period tween 18-19th, and is the first (iirc) time we've seen an "absolute change" in negative #s presented on this data collection site. Have the #s "really" gone down.... LOL... no one knows, including the aggregators, o' course.

I have an open mind on this one, it could go one way (epidemic) or another (die back down or become a problem in certain areas). But I have noted an increasing number of headlines in Ireland and the United Kingdom about "COVID" levels "rising" and being a "concern."

With increasing Irish headlines of the type we got used to reading backward: ones like "Government has no plans to reimpose lockdowns as cases increase," and the like. Which usually means they are thinking exactly of doing that. In Ireland, they might get away with it, but I suspect there would be massive resistance in the UK at this point.

I know this thread is about Monkey Pox but my point is that while they might like to use Monkey Pox as their "next big thing," it may not be going fast enough to fit their needs, or perhaps just not be contagious enough (at least not yet). As I've said before, these stories always leave me straching my head because so often the disease in question is serious, but there are a lot "better" ones if the goal is that of bad guys (from anywhere) wanted to break down, cull or otherwise shut down civilization. Heck another 1918 flu would do it and I'm not giving anyone ideas, plenty of thrillers and science fiction books are practically "How To" manuals that are about there already.

I'm of the same mind on which way this one will go. I'm watching the numbers (and how the .gov & press use language) until about Independence day (July 4th) as my yardstick for measuring which way this will go. I'm also watching keeping an eye on the rhetoric around the increase in Covid-19, because in the beginning phases of symptoms of Monkeypox the symptoms are similar enough that without a legitimate test they can be easily confused for one-another.

You should visit the Main Corona thread here.
The updates and days Heliobas provides each day are horrendous and are literally inundating her with articles.

Yes, the BA5 variant that the online virologists have been warning and screaming about has arrived.
I won’t further derail this thread but to summarize, it’s hitting the UK, Portugal, Israel.

Yeah, I'm giving this another 2 -3 weeks to see how it's going to go. Right now, though, I don't think it's going to become an epidemic, even though, the numbers may continue to rise in increments on a "worldwide" scale, before they begin to go back down. I could be totally wrong, but I hope I'm not.

Yes!!!
My wandering mind thought the same thing.

By the time the infected break out with the pustules they might have assumed it’s Covid, gotten tested, then find out what they really have without isolating properly.
