On a totally not the end of the world topic.

Thinking of possibly moving to a climate a little less frigid in the winter. Starting to look possibly mountain west part of N Carolina.

Any information of nice area’s or area’s to stay away from would be greatly appreciated. Also just anything related on good to know’s is appreciated.

Now back to the doom...

East/S.E. Winters for 9 out of 11 yearsa, no real ice or snow. Just cold temps. 2 of them we got snow and one power outage for a short time.

Hot and humid in the Summer so take that into account.

Also Tornadoes and Hurricanes. Where we are we get some winds and a lot of rain. Lost power for a week and roads flooded over bridges and such so travel was limited.

Like others have said stay away from the bigger cities. The rural parts of the state are as good as it gets.

In my particular area [[Rural]] we've had multiple housing Developments getting filled with people from NY and California. Crime is rising and those people bitch about everything. Plus the Locals as far as Contractors or people to hire to do odd jobs...lazy a frell and unreliable. That was before the Sweet and Sour Sniffles.

I live in Henderson county around a half hour south of Asheville. It’s beautiful country but it has gotten pricey in the last few years. There is a reason that it’s expensive. And I friggin love it here. It’s some of the best weather ever, one ok snowfall per year the last 8 years and I’m in sweats and hoodie in July and no AC. Butt loads of outside activities. Used to visit Asheville occasionally, but haven’t been since the silliness started.
Part of the moving to a new area is being accepted.
And because it’s a purple area, with tourists, it’s open minded to all hard working people. Not sure if that’s a positive or not.
Tons of work, regardless of your field.
And 5 hours to the ocean, myrtle beach area...... sorry...

And I’m not trying to sell anything here, but in a bunch of years traveling, this is where I want planted.
And I would gladly meet for a cup of coffee in downtown Hendersonville with any TB2k folks and share what knowledge I have.

My treat....

I like it here in far NW NC (Ashe Co). NE TN to the west likely worth investigating too. Don't know if VA is recoverable.

Ashe County, North Carolina detailed profile - houses, real estate, cost of living, wages, work, agriculture, ancestries, and more and their forum might help - Western North Carolina Forum - The Mountain Region including Asheville - City-Data Forum

If GSM shows up, it will get colder up here.

Lots of 'summer houses' up here. Don't buy one! Not suited for winter access. It's not that bad weatherwise but if the driveway is pitched like a ski slope .... ice is ice.

I like Saluda and Zirconia area with Lake Summit, but here I am still stuck in WNY but getting closer to moving.

I'm still interested in Lake Lure too.

Was looking at land and houses in the towns running west Winston Salem to East or North of Asheville.

As bad as you might think prices are, any place Californians or New Yorkers are fleeing to are ridiculous, not to mention counter productive.
Yep. That's the truth. These idiots come into nice areas and try and make it the same as they left. Incredibly stupid these liberals. Satanic even.

That was my problem with saluda or zirconia, elevation. I’m at 3100’ so slightly cooler.
Lake Lure is down around flat landers, I believe around 900’.

But I do like the chimney rock/ lake lure areas.

Dont wanta live there...

I see 1,285 acres for only $16 million somewhere around Saluda!!!!!

Talk about getting away...

Not nearly enough dogecoin on borrowed money to afford that one...

Spent almost 11 years stationed at Bragg in the Fayetteville area. Avoid that whole swath of the state like the plague.

I have an aunt that lives up in a small town north of Durham. It used to be rural but with suburban creep its close enough to the cities to catch some of their filth.

If we ever move back to retire were going waaay west to the mountains into Appalachia. More of our kind of people there. That would be my recommendation

Asheville is becoming San Francisco, East. The entire Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area is very liberal and gets more snow that the Asheville area. There's no snow plows or salting, either. The threat of snow pretty well shuts down everything east of the Saluda Grade near Asheville. Inland "Downeast" is hot and humid! Wilmington/Southport was still OK last time I was there but it's a hurricane magnet.
The SC Lowcountry is hotter and more humid that where we live near the Fla Gulf. Upstate SC isn't too bad.
I grew up near the SC Lowcountry and lived on Long Beach, NC for several years. We didn't even consider the Carolinas when we left WV.

One consideration is having access to larger towns and cities but not having cushion between any large city and the homefront.

Kind of like the eastern mountain area of TN but do not want to be anyway near either Nashville or Knoxville and its the Knoxville proximity that pushes me further east and south wrt Blue Ridge mountain range.

Knoxville, Tennessee's Gotham... Or at least that is one of my tag lines. The parallels are mind boggling. And yes I live in the metro area.

Nashville is a mini atlanta.

Both cities suffer from a lack of any real form of mass transit into and out of the city proper...

They're going to have to fix that if they want to attract more retirees.

Too late. They already are. In record numbers. Stuff is staying on the market for days before getting sold over asking price. You literally can not move for lack of housing. Downtown they are starting to build more multi use apartment dwellings. Apartments on top and stores and parking below.

On a almost totally unrelated topic I was watchinguseless tubes video’s on ‘best’ cities and towns in different states.

Seems they kept recommending cities and I had a hard time figuring why high crime hi tax locations would be recommended over small towns, unless you only cared about how many bars you can hit in one night.

Then I caught it. Very quickly while rattlimg through the highlights they snuck in the word. Seems a Very Big consideration for what makes a city a good place to raise a family is not the numbers of rapes or murders or the amount you shovel out for stupid government programs to save the endangered disease carrying rat, it’s the amount of DIVERSITY.

I really don’t care about the racial make-up of my neighbors, but I do care the percentage of neighbors and local pols that feel entitled to My Stuff...

Back to main topic.
Kind of have 4 area’s

1.) Not Asheville, but circle area about 5 miles out around Asheville moving out.
2.) The I-40 corridor that runs between Asheville to outer rim Winston Salem.
3.) The North space between I-40 around Hickory north to border.
4.) Next door to Dennis, that way I got someone to mow my lawn and get free bread and pizza whenever I desire..,

A friend is looking for a home west of Knoxville. Realtors won't take contingent offers because it's a waste of their time as someone will just come in & buy cash or without any contingencies.

Apple is building a 1 billion dollar east coast campus in Raleigh N Carolina.
3,000 new jobs and housing construction and prices are going through the roof.
West coast people are already outbidding each other property unseen, and driving prices up to California levels in the area.

I’m blowing OPSEC but here’s what got me looking up this way...

Over priced but a cool piece of property. No lights forever...

Very nice place. But over four times what I paid for my place, and as pretty as it is, I just don't need that much space...

It is a classy out dated place. All the wood and stone are from the mountain...
I’m kinda in contact with the owner and that price might come down a notch.
So here we have a TB2k retreat, 3200’...
Maybe a 501c
It’s the end of the world, so I’ll kick in a chunk....

Let's Go Brandon!
Check the demographic, check the tax structure, check which way the state is politically leaning.

I've been suggesting that people wait two years, unless there is a pressing reason not to. I think there will be a far different country two years from now.

I concur 100%.

North Carolina, is going to go solid blue in November 2022.

I lived in the triangle, mostly north Raleigh and Wake Forest for
25.5 years and I saw the area change radically to the left.

Just like a cancer, liberalism has now destroyed all of the surrounding
areas in the triangle, with massive movement of northeast liberals,
who have now taken over.

When I retired in 2012, I determined to sell my house, and get out of the area,
and I moved to The Upstate of South Carolina in 2013. This area is still far more
conservative than most areas now, and most likely I am here to stay.

However, its not just the triangle. The triad of North Carolina has also
been destroyed by northeast liberals. Not nearly as bad as the triangle,
but its not an area that I would relocate to.

Of course Assville, as has been discussed many times on this board,
is now basically San Francisco east. A nephew said that the place
was nothing more than a zoo, with freaks everywhere.

Therefore, looking at everything getting worse, nothing is going to get better,
I would not recommend to anyone, to move to the State of North Carolina.
It is nothing but South Virginia.

As for the Zillow property, I am about 60 miles from there, straight up US-25.

Please be safe everyone.

Regards to all.
