- Every ship that was docked at inner harbor is now trapped till the investigation ends. The port is out of commission. Seattle, New Orleans, Mobile, Norfolk, Jaxville FL Long Beach all need to step up their game today.

- Construction crew of 20 were on the bridge, 185 ft drop to the water

Those ships are stuck longer than that, they will have to clear the wreckage, the water isn't that deep there.

Till the 'immediate' investigation ends.

Stack O'Rocks I have 91 tabs open and my fingers are flying. Am also emailing/texting seven others too.

We don't need a thread babysitter handler to downplay the significance of what we just saw happen. SITUATION IS FLUID.
Save the nanny mode for Q thread rattling the henhouse.

We need ALL newshounds awake to start getting vids from other angles as they are uploaded as multiple cams caught this. B-more is having a very bad day with all their responders engaged and not able to tend to any other incidents.

Sky News is now also live with it in UK, screenshot of the bridge as the sky lightens. So Europe seems to think this is a pretty big story too.

Reports of loud sounds from bridge structure. They think the tide is changing the level of the ship causing the bridge portions on top of the ship to shift.

Most of todays cars have much todo with fancy electrical systems and most will have electric windows and once the car is submerged the electrical system go's dead and no escape unless the occupant can break the glass before the compartment can fill with water.

Watch: Huge Bridge In Baltimore Collapses After Container Ship Strike | ZeroHedge

TUESDAY, MAR 26, 2024 - 08:30 AM

Shocking footage is coming from Baltimore City, home to the nation's largest port facilities for specialized cargo (roll-on/roll-off ships) and passenger cruise ships. It shows a container ship striking the 1.6-mile-long Francis Scott Key Bridge and collapsing it.

According to the ship tracking website MarineTraffic, the Singapore-flagged cargo ship "Dali" slammed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge around 0130 ET.

The bridge spans the Patapsco River and carries an estimated 11.5 million vehicles annually. This collapse means a major shipping lane in and out of the Port of Baltimore City has been severed.

Baltimore is the most inland port on the East Coast and is interconnected to the I-95 highway network. With no commercial vessels sailing in and out of port anytime soon, this is catastrophic for port operations and could spark major supply chain snarls in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

The bridge collapse has severed major marine terminals. It's unknown when operations will be restored.

Last year, according to the Maryland government's website, the Port of Baltimore managed over 52 million tons of international cargo valued at more than $80 billion, ranking it as the ninth busiest port in the United States.

The port supports 15,330 direct jobs and 139,180 jobs in Maryland, according to the Maryland government's website.
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott's office posted on X:
"I'm aware of and en route to the incident at the Key Bridge. I have been in contact with Baltimore Fire Chief James Wallace, Gov. Wes Moore (and the county executives of Baltimore and Anne Arundel counties). Emergency personnel are on scene, and efforts are underway."

Ok, I just watched this shipwreck on the feed that @BornFree posted. There is a time tick in the upper left of the screen. Go back to 01:20:00 EDT when the ship comes into frame. The ship starts turning to Starboard and heads right for the pier. Lights go out twice. Engines appear to be full reverse. Ship strikes the bridge at 01:28 and the whole bridge colapses onto the bow of the ship.

Here is the live stream camera that caught the bridge strike. It is still running and if you back up you see the impact and events before it.

Ship appears to have lost power twice before impact with the bridge.
In this sped up clip, note that the ship's lights are on at first, then turn off. After the lights return, the ship appears to lose power one more time before the power returns again, but by then it's too late.

Baltimore bridge thoughts.
Weather was clear.
Departing ships have assigned harbor pilots.
Visibility was good.
There are many possible causes.
Most likely: A mechanical failure of a key ship's system such as a jammed rudder.
Least likely: A deliberate collision with the bridge.

For those that think the Francis Scott Key Bridge crash looks “very deliberate”

Here is a video showing what seeming shows the ship lost power twice.

UPDATE: CONTAINER SHIP LOST POWER BEFORE STRIKING BALTIMORE KEY BRIDGE

The Singaporean container ship, Dali, struck one of the bridge support pillars shortly after leaving the Seagirt Marine Terminal in the Port of Baltimore.

The ship reportedly lost power but regained it before striking the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

Emergency services are searching for survivors after witnesses reported vehicles and construction workers falling into the Patapsco River.

Watch the exhaust stack, engines were at full power the whole time. Yes, they lost electrical power, but the engines didn't stop.

In Baltimore, a steamer rammed one of the main bridges in the city.
The bridge has collapsed.

The bridge is 2,632 m long, the traffic flow rate is 11 million vehicles per year, the bridge was a certified route for containers with dangerous goods passing through the port of Baltimore.

It is not yet known how many cars were on the bridge at the time of the destruction. A mass casualty incident has been announced in Baltimore.

The investigation could take years. The channel will be clear for at least minimal traffic in a week.
This. The Navy has or at least used to have contracts standing by for incidents like this. THere should be calls already going out getting salvage teams together to get the channel open. Rebuilding the bridge is a different story but opening that channel is a national priority.
