VIDEO Boots on the ground thread - Southern Prepper 1

We have featured this mans daily briefs on a different thread but I wanted to do a thread for his material. Just came across his YouTube channel a few weeks ago but he specializes in aggregating emails that he receives about conditions, shortages and prices etc around the country that have been reported to him.

Very useful to get a feeling about what is going on around the country and not just in my neck of the woods. Obviously he isn't able to verify everything that comes his way and some is probably fake or embellished but overall he does a very good job in sharing what people email him about.

He keeps the videos short to around ten minutes or so and sometimes does a few videos daily.

Thanks! I’ve been trying to watch his videos every day since learning about him here.

eta: I’m just going to stick this here. Hubby went to get another chain for his chainsaw today only to be told that they haven’t been able to get any Stihl products and don’t know when they will.

FWIW
the small place that I work at sells Husqvarna equipment and we have been having trouble getting products for several months
We have a decent selection but when something sells it may take a month or more to get a replacement

I like & follow his reports, gives one insight to hear from so many diverse professions from different areas of what they are experiencing in short supplies, delays and rising costs.

Often makes my to-do and to-get list a little bigger.

Thank Hfcooms. When I put it out in the original thread I thought it was important too. Things look so "normal" in my AO but I know that below the surface it's crazy. Dad said when your are in business for yourself you have to look like a duck...calm cool collected on the surface but paddling like hell below the water line. All the businesses I service are paddling like hell to look "normal"

Thanks for posting.

DH made sure we have oil, filters, brake pads and belts for both vehicles for future replacement.

Also bought some backup a/c supplies (replacement parts).

Toiletries, paper goods etc we're well stocked. It's the other things you don't consider that might bite us in the arse.

Just like Y2K, demand is stretching the inventory. Know a guy in a commercial supply house. He says it is a two-fold problem. First is supply chain. There are problems but that isn't all of it. The supply chain problems and the extra cash that many people have from the government incentives or that they've repurposed from other activities, is being spent to create some inventory in their businesses and homes. There is now a double burden on the system.

FYI TSC carries some chains that will fit. Especially the 20 inch bar, I haven't found any for an 18 at TSC. I believe the number is MC81. IN any event they have the Stihl numbers listed on the back, so he need's to write his chain number down and take it with him. Because TSC has a bunch of replacements for different saws.

Secondary for consideration is buying an electric sharpener from Harbour Freight. I got mine some years ago for about 30.00. Easy Peasy to operate, so long as you go slow so you don't burn the teeth. The biggest problem is mounting it on a table. Not that it takes a genius but will need to drill a couple of holes through the table and have bolts to bolt it down.

I even bought a couple of grinding wheels at the same time. (ya know one is none)

One of the great things about sharpening your own, is that a lot of guys just as soon buy a new one, when their old one gets dull, so I have lots of chains that are given to me. But knowing that it takes electricity, I also have several sets of files on hand, just in case.

On buying chains, you can't just go by length.

Chain pitch is the other important number. (number of teeth per given length)

The wrong pitch will kill the drive sprocket in a short time.

If you aren't sure, bring your old chain and lay it on top of the new one.

Breaking News ALL Winchester Ammunition Manufacturing Plants In Mississippi temporarily shut down

Transformer blew up that powers all three plants including the military contract plant.
I had not heard this, BUT this happens quite often with squirrels getting in places they shouldn't, etc. and generally doesn't last more than a day.

The same thing has happened at Cooper in Tupelo, there is a substation out by Arby's on east main, that has a real squirrel problem. Ane we've been sent home a couple of times.

Point is don't panic over this. You should have panicked a few years ago (early). LOL

Thanks for the heads-up on southernprepper1. Things are falling apart slowly but surely here in the Phoenix 'burbs.

I took DD to the ER for fluids and meds last week when she got floored by an IBS flare-up. Major hospital chain, Soviet-style medicine. Die in chair, Comrade Citizen. No bed for you!

I subscribe to the positive racial stereotypes about the Asian work ethic. My favorite Vietnamese restaurant is now closed on Tuesdays because of staffing shortages. No pho for you!

An elderly gentleman in my good and quiet neighborhood had his locked curbside mailbox pried open. Catalytic converter thefts here have skyrocketed. A Trader Joe's employee cautioned me to keep my handbag in the bottom of the cart because some customers are shopping for more than just kale. No security for you!

Southern Prepper 1 used to have a prepping show on Discovery Network. He has almost a quarter of a million subscribers on YouTube. He is a familiar face that’s why people are sending him stuff. Another guy was on the show with him. Can’t remember his name. I always liked Dave he seemed like he was more knowledgeable and had more common sense than the other guy.

The one that got my attention is someone is at the Belagio casino/Hotel now, and they didn't have any EGGS for today's breakfast! at 12:37.
Also, no chassis (sp?) to make fire trucks. Projects being canceled because of concrete shortages. Used railroad ties are selling for $25.00 each.

This man's videos may be the most frightening of them all that get posted on this forum.

What stood out on this one was the grocery workers in Massachusetts stating that $14 an hour doesn't cover the living expenses (not at all surprising) and that they can't get even the minimum amount of people to operate the grocery store. The sh*t isn't going to hit the fan, it's just going to grind to a halt.
