White Lowe's Worker Confronts Black Thieves - Gets Black Eye And Pink Slip

After 13 years of service to Lowe's, an elderly white woman has been fired after she received a beating and black eye from black shoplifters brazenly rolling $2,100 worth of goods out of a store in Georgia. That's the steep price she paid for heroically trying to thwart the trio's theft -- in violation of Lowe's policy.

“They say that if you see somebody stealing something out the door, not to pursue, not to go out. I lost it,” Donna Hansbrough told the Effingham Herald. “I grabbed the cart. I don't actually remember going out but I did. And I grabbed the cart that had the stolen items in (it).”
Donna Hansbrough got a black eye when she tried to stop a trio of thieves -- and was promptly fired by Lowe's (Rincon Police Department)

Police say that cart was being pushed on June 25th by Takyah Berry, who punched Hansbrough in the face three times, leaving her with a black eye that lingers almost a month later. Berry was allegedly accompanied by her uncle, Joseph Berry, and a man named Jarmar Lawton. After attacking Hansbrough, Berry and her accomplices left with the stolen goods. Lawton is in police custody on unrelated charges, but the two Berrys are at large.

Like many good citizens, it seems Hansbrough simply lost her patience with corporate America's widespread toleration of shameless, daylight robberies. “I just got tired of seeing things get out the door. I just, I lost it. I basically lost all the training. Everything they tell you to do, I just…I just lost it," she said.
Takyah Berry, Joseph Berry and Jarmar Lawton left the Lowe's with more than $2,000 worth of merchandise (WJCL)

With more than a dozen years working at the Lowe's location in Rincon, Georgia -- about a half hour north of Savannah -- Hansbrough expected consequences but wasn't braced for Lowe's' cruel reaction to her selfless reflex that drove her to try to stop wrongdoing.

“I didn’t expect to get terminated,” the now-former live-plants customer associate said. “Maybe a reprimand or a suspension.” Choking back tears as she contemplated her sudden unemployment, Hansbrough told WJCL, "A lot of people know me as the plant lady...and it hurts, because I like them all."

Lowe's policy prohibiting employee intervention against criminals is typical of major retailers, who seek to reduce the associated risks that intervention present to employees and to the company.

The result, however, is a rising wave of theft that costs untold billions -- Target alone said thievery slashed its latest fiscal-year gross margins by $600 million. Those costs will inevitably be passed along to honest consumers in the form of higher prices -- a new form of wealth redistribution in a society that already has too much of it.

It's one thing for companies to adopt such policies after their own risk assessment, but now liberal politicians want to make it illegal for employees to stop thieves. Last month, the California Senate passed just such a measure, which would only compound the state's ongoing cultivation of criminal behavior -- best exemplified by Prop 47, the law that made shoplifting of up to $950 of merchandise a misdemeanor.

Meanwhile, as she looks for new work, let's salute Donna Hansbrough and people in America and around the world who team up to stop criminals:

Most people of her generation do NOT expect to get terminated. I've had this discussion with OC many times, and he always asks why the employees are not allowed to intervene. Insurance for the most part.

Insurance. Let's face it. Insurance(both health and liability) is becoming more worthless as the days go by...STATE FARM...STATE FARM...STATE FARM, being the best example. Companies are run by children for the most part anymore. So, two negatives there. What this all tells us is that there is ABSOLUTELY ZERO loyalty given an employee and employees should NOT give any loyalty to an employer. I have to say..."OF COURSE...DOESN'T EVERYONE KNOW THIS?" Meanwhile, companies are trying to feign the loyalty game with their employees. Is anyone buying it? Possibly 60 somethings are having a hard time coming around to this new way of thinking. Old habits are hard to break.

It's up to the local community to voice their opinion and if they do not get the proper results (give the woman her job back or they stop buying products from Lowe's.) Lowe's will blow off such attempts thinking people have a short attention span and quickly forget why they should not buy anything from Lowe's, Target is a good example and it took another go around depravity to boycott them a second time.

Dad was talking about a guy who recently retired from his work. Apparently, they've been having a lot of trouble finding new help out there. One guy quit on his first day.

This outraged Mom and Dad both. You don't quit without two weeks notice! Then I pointed out that he'd be fired with one day, so, why not? They didn't have much to say about that one.

that elderly Lowe's employee that got canned will be OK - she got that Lowe's job and was satisfied that it was the best she could do - she put those years in with nothing but complacency .....

sounds like she worked the garden department - some other store or nursery will give her a job - probably treat her better and pay her better .....

I will be avoiding Lowe's from now on, although I rarely go there anyway. I would just be overcharged to compensate for the shoplifters. Why should I pay more simply because Lowe's is unwilling to protect their merchandise? The firing of that employee was unconscionable, even if that is their policy. They show tolerance to shoplifters and none to a loyal employee of many years.

She was fired for confronting shoplifters. The race doesn’t matter. Violation of policy. Buh bye.
I’m not so sure about that. If it was a White or Asian shoplifter busted by a black employee they would have been applauded. Muh “ white supremacy “ crap ya know…
I was a plant vendor at Lowes for 12 years, a spring/summer job for me. I so understand the connection to the customers. I hope this woman finds a great job at a nursery that will appreciate her.

NO ONE gives 2 weeks notice at my work anymore. Typically, I see people turn in notice on Monday and say, "Friday is my last day." The company can come in and cut you in a second...and have security pack you up right after the meeting. So, no need to give two weeks notice.

The local walmart is losing $50k weekly in inventory due to theft.
I have two Walmarts within maybe 5 miles of me. One is closer to blaxville. In that Walmart, it's a nightmare to go into. One day, about 2 weeks back, I go in and there are these odd security gates up everywhere. However, as I was walking in this large black chick was running out the gates. She had stuff in her hand and the sirens went off. No one batted an eye...just let her go. OK. I walked through the store and it's a travesty to what a store should be like in middle America. They have put in mazes, in sectioned off areas of the store. For example, they cordoned off the hair care products, razors, etc. You have to wind through a maze to find stuff...then there is another security gate there. WTH? Just to buy a razor. They have the pharmacy on one side of the store, then the drug store items on another side of the store cordoned off with a maze, too. All to keep black scum at bay. They didn't have the room near the groceries to cordon of drugstore items...so they had to do it on the other side of the store. Other Walmarts have put in glass locked cabinets everywhere to thwart black theft. The Walmart closer to me put all the black liquor in locked cabinets. Decent blacks refuse to do anything in their communities, too. It's not going to get better as the black plague spreads out more to the burbs, via gubmint programs.

she'll probably lose some corporate beenies she had with Lowes - but some nursery will pick her up and give her work more fitting her age - she'll be able to last longer

This. Corporate lawyers have done the math and it is cheaper for them to eat the shoplifting losses than risk a lawsuit from either an employee injured while stopping these "shoppers" or from the "shoppers" themselves if they get injured during the employee confrontation.

Yep word has gotten around in that area. Don't touch shoplifters. So what increases? Shoplifting.

We are seeing it everywhere.

At some point the pendulum will swing back to where we hang thieves. Not sure which is better.

....segregation was no longer a problem..........but now its beginning to appear that its the solution.

Especially if it involves full reparations to those Blacks of slave ancestry who desire as such but under the condition they relinquish US citizenship and return permanently to Africa.

I for one admire the Muslim solution. Scimitar to the offending hand, and off she goes.
Saw some of that in Chop Chop Square back in the day. BUT, the Muslim solution essentially let anyone go that swore to Allah. Plenty of liars in Islam. They would say, "This Indian did it." Afterall, once an Islamist swears to Allah, he's innocent. So, it must be that the Indian stole it. Whack! Off goes the Indian's hand.
