Good Morning, All! And a Happy Caffeine to you as well ioujc - my jar of coffee is nearing the bottom, but I'm going to stick with just the one (at least until afternoon
)
It's a nice, cool morning here with temps in the low 70's, so I have the door to the side porch open to let in some cool, fresh air - I'll be having to close it soon enough to keep the heat at bay as the sun is starting to clear the tops of the trees in the far east fields. The temp is supposed to be in the low 90's again today, with heat indexes in the high 90's. At least we have the walnut trees close enough to the house that they shade it until the sun is right overhead - no shade on the west at all.
I ended up with what I think was food poisoning after my Auntie's funeral Monday afternoon; I won't go into great and glorious detail, but it was bad enough that I called in to work (they put me on call instead); then I worked Tuesday night with no before-work nap, so I was pretty much useless for anything yesterday other than a planned stop to pick up a few groceries and vitamins on the way home - WM had only one small package of chicken thighs (cat food) - but I did wander through the kids clothing area on my way to pharmacy and found that they were putting summer clothing on clearance in the children's department, so at least I was able to get younger grandson a couple of school worthy outfits so it was worth the stop. I also found where they'd hidden the beet root chews (for blood pressure) - there were none on the shelf, but several in a cardboard kiosk in the middle of an aisle so I picked up 4 bottles as they do seem to help. And then daughter had a client cancel, so I didn't have to take middle grandson to football practice; so all in all it was a fairly restful day.
The dew is heavy again today so I'll have to wait until afternoon to do any weeding - anything else I'm going to get done outside, I need to do by 9:30 or so as I'll need to clean up before the neighbor picks me up to go to the pool at 10. By the time we're done with the pool, lunch - it's Taco Truck day - woo hoo!! - stopping by the store in the pool town to pick up a few of the roasts they have on sale ($3.99/lb), and a possible trip to the local orchard, I'll want to come home and nap
I'll go ahead and chunk the roasts this evening, but won't can them until tomorrow morning as I won't want to heat up the house any worse than it already will be this evening.
Since I'm adding more canned beef to the pantry, I'll pull a jar of home canned beef out to make one of the Knorr's stroganoff packets for supper this evening; and will mix up a batch of scalloped corn to go with them; one pan to eat with the stroganoff, one or two for the freezer, depending on the size of the pan - the recipe makes a large Corning Ware pan full which is handy for family dinners but we'd be eating it every meal for a week or more if we made it in that. The fruit will likely be home canned peaches unless we end up at the local orchard for some reason; in which case it will be fresh peaches. I may scrub some small potatoes and put them in the little crock pot to bake as well. My potatoes in the garden have started flowering, so I won't have to depend on the store for potatoes much longer. The ones that are currently flowering were sprouted ones I'd pulled out of the drawer and decided to plant.
I may have already said this, but the grandsons start back to school on August 18th
I'm so old that we didn't go back to school until the Tuesday after Labor Day!! Of course, schools weren't air conditioned back then - you know, when we walked miles to and from school, and it was uphill both ways
Daughter tells me that they are going to get a long Christmas break to make up for the early start - she'll like that! I need to find school supply lists for the boys and haul them off to the Evil Empire soon; I always add an extra set of school supplies for each of the boys' classrooms - I have family members who are teachers and know how much they spend out of pocket to cover the kids who don't have supplies. We do have a bus that comes 'round with free school supplies - I can't recall if it's the Sallie's or Catholic Charities that does it, but some parents don't take advantage of that; I know I wouldn't have been able to due to my work hours. Two extra sets of supplies aren't going to break me, and they might make a difference to someone. I also usually give the teachers a card with some cash in in, with a note: "For school supplies; wine, chocolate, whatever it takes!" And may the Lord bless them for doing a job that I surely wouln't have the patience for!!
Well, I've been lollygagging on line long enough; better get up and move my clothes to the dryer, make sure all the hummingbird feeders are full enough to last until I get back home, maybe do a little more housework before I need to pull on my swimsuit and get ready to head to town.
You folks all take care out there - stay safe!!
