We just had to buy a new ac unit for the house. We have two, but the upstairs one is 15+ years old and is just worn out. It didn't cost as much as we thought it would, but then they told me we just made it under the new prices increases starting the 1st of September.

Despite that between the time they called me and I agreed to the quote, (less than 2 hours) the price on one part increased by $70.

I've started another pickup list.

Got started on the fall garden planting and I will place a seed order this week. I've got a new raised garden coming so hope to get it installed.

I've been stopped up with a headache and stomachache. No fever. By the afternoon it's usually gone.

We still haven't closed on the farm but the appraiser finally came out on Monday so hopefully soon.
Take care everone!

I don't post often, but i have this feeling I can't shake. Feel the need to finish everything and get ready. Hate feeling like this! Something is coming and I don't like it. Finishing preps and watching/listening.

same here!! I’m getting ready to go shopping today with hubby! We planned to go out today and top off our supplies. May be our last trip to the “city” for a little while (we live in a small town). Plan on stopping at Aldi and target. Cashed in my credit card points and have a bunch of target gift certificates to spend!! Woohooo!!

I tried for 30 minutes to do a WM pick up order, but every time I put something in the cart, it would change to another store, not the one I have always shopped at. I finally gave up, and went to the store this morning. Kind of along the lines of "Why did I bother?"
The kitchen fan broke, and I had an extra one, but I wanted to replace it. Not a single fan in the store, even a small battery operated one. Wanted some king size sheets. They had some, $63 for a "mainstay pack", that you can't tell what's in it, and the description is printed in a foreign language. Not French or Spanish. I passed.
Spent $95 on pluppy. $70 of dog food and she needed a leash. Broke 2 last week. Had to get a pink one, that's all they had. Husband cut up my dog chain and used it for something else, so I had to get her a new one. I don't believe in keeping a dog on a chain, but she has to stay tied for 20 minutes or so a day when I'm moving livestock or equipment. Always in the shade with water, and not without me outside as well.
I wanted some rawhide for her, but they didn't have any.
No low sodium Spam or the Great Value Pringles that dh likes. Very little of the Great Value iodized salt. they haven't had any variety in the Little Debbie cakes in weeks. I usually buy those individual peach pies, because I don't need a whole one, but they didn't have any of those either.
My WM order that was supposed to be here yesterday showed up this morning. They divided it up in 5 shipments, I've never had so many out of one order before.

I woke up to a flat tire on my van, DH is out there working on it. I must have picked up a nail, but I don't use the van regularly so I don't have a clue where. And for some reason this particular model does not have a spare or a donut. If he can repair it I'll order one if he can't I'll order two. I was thinking about not having a spare recently but then I forgot.

The best laid plans of mice and (wo)men. This week has been crazy so far, not what I planned at all.

DH told me Sunday night his throat felt raw and he didn’t feel well. So Mon. even though he wasn’t feeling well he still tried to take care of some farm work. Mon. night he didn’t sleep well at all (which meant I didn’t either). He tried getting some of his work done and even ran an errand or two on Tuesday. Then he kept getting in bed, saying he was cold and slept a lot most of the day. His throat was better but the runny nose kept running and the coughing started. I knew DD2 had one of the rapid test kits for c Ovid so had her bring one over. By that time he was running a fever. The test showed negative. By then it was bedtime so I had him put a breathe right strip on his nose to help him breathe and gave him some melatonin to help him sleep. He had already taken vitamin c and I think some cold med. He woke me this morning and said he was on his way to see our Dr. for a test, Dr told him there had been lots of issues with the rapid test kit, so we may find out tomorrow but more than likely it will be Friday about the results. I guess if his comes back positive, I’ll need to go do it too although so far I’m ok. SIL brought by some mucinex and zinc for him this afternoon. Hopefully the mucinex will help him clear out his lungs. He said it hurts really bad to cough. Theres been something going around like this some folks including the Dr are calling it The Crud, and I hope that’s all this is. The Dr. also put him on antibiotics, said it couldn’t hurt. We haven’t had our granddaughter this week but DD says she very stuffed up. Sigh, i hate to be sick but I hate it even worse for my family to be sick. Prayers would be appreciated.

After discovering there are things missing that were much needed today, I put in a few orders to remedy the situation. So more vitamin c&d, zinc, breath right strips, melatonin, some household cleaners, Lysol spray etc should be arriving soon.

We managed to get all the yard mowed in between rain showers, yesterday. That's done for another week. No hay raking for me......!

Today, is going into small town for groceries and other items day. I'm hoping to wait, until UPS runs to make my delivery of Keystone meats. It's raining, and I don't want him leaving it at the gate to get wet while we're gone. Tracking says it will be delivered today. We'll see.

Update on my mom. Her doctor called her, yesterday, and told her that she has Ulcerative Colitis, another auto-immune disease. This makes 6 auto-immune diseases she has been diagnosed with! I have 4 of the same ones. Hopefully, the medication he has her on will cause it to go into remission.

Does anyone here know anything about Skullcap? In the best interest of prepping, I'm going to be trying to ween myself off of the anti-anxiety prescription med that I take at night before bed (Trazadone 75mg). I've taken it for years, and I don't know if it will be available to me in the future. It's not a drug that you can just stop taking all at once. Someone suggested Skullcap. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I want to stock up on what works.

edited to add. The reason I'm asking about Skullcap is that I feel I will still need something for my anxiety, especially at night.

Step daughter has UC, had it for many years. She is on Humira which has been a cure all for her. She is young too. Was very healthy. They first told her no children. But she went to a large University Medical. She is due in October with #2 grandchild. And she is able to work PT. But for a number of years she was in the hospital more than out.

PM Summerthyme for more info or do a search. She's used it and written a lot about it. Here is one thread:

I don't know, yet, what her doctor has prescribed for her. I think she went, yesterday, to pick it up at Walmart. Maybe, whatever it is will help with some of her other auto-immune issues as well. She won't take any drugs, unless she absolutely has to. In her mind, with most of her issues, she doesn't think she has to. She won't even take a full dose of Tylenol. I have a very hard time getting her to take all her meds. At 82, she's pretty much set in her ways.

Minor prep failure for me! I'm in the process of hanging light spring pants on hangers lengthwise with clothes pins (for storage -- I'm trying something new). I ran out and went to the storage area to get more. All gone! I thought I bought at least two packs and then I realized I gave some away.

Glad I can still get more! I use them for more than just hanging wet clothing.

(Added: my point in posting this -- be sure you're also going over your supplies or projects, or -- even better! -- starting them so if there are problems, you can still buy stuff. And I know there are special hangers for pants, but they are $20+ for a pack. Clothes pins are much cheaper.)

That's not a bad thing. A lot of today's drugs are highly questionable. I have to take allergy meds in August and early September to function outside but the rest of the time I try to only take plants I've grown (garlic for example). I'm also trying to "let food be my medicine" (Hippocrates ) . . . a daily apple and an orange are on the menu.

Mom is scared to take any medication, even prescription meds. I've tried to get her to use vitamin and herbal supplements, but she won't do that, either. Trying to tell her about her diet is a lost cause, too.

Wow! A State of Emergency has just been issued for the little small town where we are about to go to buy groceries, because of COVID!.......Mask mandates for the whole town inside every public building, public events cancelled, limited number of people inside each store or business, etc.

We have our masks, hand sanitizer, and Xlear nasal spray ready.

Well, we made it back. Got another 2 weeks shopping done. We went to 2 different places to shop for groceries. There were several empty spots showing on shelves in both stores, but I got everything on my lists. I bought the last 5lb bag of cornmeal in one store, and Cary bought the last 2 boxes of Cheerios. One store was completely out of milk. This was at Dollar General. Hometown Market had canned veggies of all kinds on sale for $.50/can. I bought 4, 12 can flats of those for added storage.

There weren't many people in this small town out today. I guess the state of emergency has everyone staying home. The people we did see, most had on masks. The town had that deserted feeling to it. Cary and I were the only shoppers in each store besides the workers. It felt strange.

Our Keystone meat order arrived, today.

So glad that you were able to shop and that your meat arrived! I'm sure both will be a blessing in the days ahead.

(I truly hope I'm wrong, but I just have a feeling that something we're not really expecting is going to be the cause of lock downs/curfews. Maybe the New Madrid fault cuts loose with some major earthquakes. I'm been trying to distract myself, but that feeling, something is coming, remains in the background. I know that's true for many on this board, too.)

I hope we're all wrong about this, Meemur. So many are feeling the same thing, though. I know the women cashiers at both stores, today thought I was insane at the amount I bought. One of them ask me if we were preparing for another lockdown for awhile. I just laughed at her, and told her I liked having a little extra, and that I cooked a lot. I'm not telling anyone our business if you know what I mean?

Our survival family all had a goal this week to pack in as much food and supplies as we all could afford. That's what I did, today.

Sherree, when somebody questions what I've got in my cart, I just say, "Have you ever fed teenagers?" which is what Mom used to say.
I'm with you and Meemur, I'm worried about what's going to happen next. I've been thinking that this must have been what it was like for home folks during WW 1 and WWII. Never knowing what was coming next.

I don't know anything about skullcap, but I have been taking trazadone for years for sleeping. I was taking 150mg but I've cut it back to 100mg. I did that because it has dizziness side affects. I'm going to sleep just fine, but I'm also taking melatonin. I'm also giving it to DH. I guess I didn't know it was for stress. God help me if I stopped taking it altogether and got seriously stressed. I've read that trazadone is not is not a medication to stop cold turkey, I guess I can see why. I have a nice stash of it.

As for Breathe right strips, I've never used them but will get some. DH and I wake up stuffed up every morning.

I've got an order for walmart on my phone but have not scheduled a pickup. I may go to the store tomorrow. I still need to get that spare tire. Update on the flat, it was the gizmo DH put on the stem where you put air in that was the problem, its over 24 hours and the tire is fine.
Maybe God was giving me a reminder about getting that spare tire. Thank you.

ETA: with all the stress levels and waiting for the shoe to drop its probably a good thing I'm taking trazadone for more than sleeping. I started taking it because I could not turn my head off to go to sleep. Same with DH.

I rarely get questioned about what I buy. Since I do a lot of my shopping on my way to and from work, and could stop almost every day if I wanted (night shift gives you two different opportunities - one day/one work crew on the way in; different day/different crew on the way home) I don't have to buy mass quantities at once. On the rare occasions that I get questioned, I roll my eyes and say "4 grandsons" and they laugh and move on.

I had new tires put on the van today, so since I was in town, I hit Aldi and Wal Mart. There was a lady at the door of Wal Mart offering masks to people; Aldi was about 50/50 on masked to unmasked. The store in my home town had two masked workers (out of 6); no masked customers. Aldi's prices did not seem to have risen much if at all but my ticket was higher than usual because I bought quite a bit of what I consider 'snack' food to donate to youngest grandson's classroom per a teacher's request. The youngest kids get the latest lunch time - doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but - oh well... She wanted to give them a snack around 10 am to keep their brains powered up.

Co-worker Buddy called me last night (grrr - I HATE it when he calls and tells me stuff that he should KNOW will irritate me on a night when I actually get to sleep like a normal person!) and told me that there was a new mask policy at work - if you've been vaxxed, you can wear a 'regular' surgical mask (cough cough - since those boxes of masks - at least the ones they send to our department - say 'not for medical use'). If you've not been vaxxed, you have to wear an N95 - which they also didn't have any of when this started; and when they did finally get some in, they were reserved for staff that were caring for actual Covid patients. Still no vaccine mandate.... I'll guess I'll wait and see what happens. It may be getting closer to time to retire. I can draw social security for as long as it lasts, pick up a part time job - Heaven knows there are plenty of openings just in the small towns closest to me - and find a Christian Cost Sharing 'insurance' plan to cover me until I'm eligible for Medicare. I just hope I can last through the next two weeks at work until I have my next vacation..

Judy, my van did not come with a spare either. I kept suggesting to Hubby that he go to the junkyard and find a wheel and put a tire on it for a spare, but he has not done so as yet - 5 years later. He has been driving my van for the past couple of weeks (OMG - I've been letting the dog in his truck  - which was MY truck until I needed more seats for grandkids) because there was a slow leak in one of the tires and I finally refused to drive it to work, and drove the truck if I was going to have the grandkids with me. He didn't understand why until I reminded him that it had been like that since before I'd gone on vacation (over 2 weeks at that time) and told him he was going to have to be the one to drive it until it was fixed. It still took another two weeks for him to get tired of it and call about tires.

Did a grocery run, store didn't have several items I wanted. Will be checking out the other store this weekend to see if they have it. Ordered two pairs of lace up boots so that I have additional footwear. Added some additional medical items to the larder along with a healthy measure of food. Shelves were looking fairly sad, a great many empty spots and boy howdy them prices be up! Likely do a full inventory this weekend so I have an accurate spreadsheet.

Well we decided that we needed a break and went to the beach. Just got home yesterday. And all our cares and concerns are still here! We continue to top off supplies.

Has anyone ever waxed store bought cheese to prolong shelf life? Some one was talking about it on main. I never thought about it! A friend told me she thought store bought cheese had too much moisture. Would like to hear from anyone that has done this before or has additional info.

This week I will get seed in order for next year. We have a small garden here near the house and we use it as a test garden growing new things in it. Thought I would share our results. Hastings corn did great 2-3 ears per 10ft stalk. Sweet and creamy although it is an OP dent corn. Was grown here in our area in 1800's. Got the seed from an elderly man that has saved seed for years. So that one was a success. We will grow it instead of the Trucker's Favorite. Next I grew some Israel cantelopes. They were slow to germinate and were not good in our opinion. And last but not least I tried Bradford watermelons. An old melon from the Carolinas. Thick rind. Not as sweet as reported. Won't grow that again and the melons and cantelope were not grown in the same area!

Tonight we went to local high school volleyball game. No masks. We use xlear nasal spray. Our little village has about 650 people and everyone turns out. Was so much fun! Granddaughter plays Vball. I am always a little anxious about being out but am learning to cope. Daughter who is disabled always makes me second guess myself about useless exposure but she truly enjoys Vball so much.

DH and I are going to pick up the ivermectin this morning. LOL, we consider going to the store an outing. We'll make a walmart stop too. I ordered two more bottles of the NAC from walmart.com. That should give us a one year supply.

I gotta say that FEdx delivery is a pain. I've have items that have been on their truck since Monday and because it rained some each day they didn't deliver. UPS delivers rain or shine. it takes a lot for them not to deliver.

Got more flashing for cabin stove. Fire extinguisher, co monitor, puck lights and pipe thermometer.
Still need to finish more walls and ceiling but still have time.
Garden has exploded. We had butternut squash last night, even the cats and dogs liked them.
We uncovered a brick walkway off the porch that the boys and I are working on.
Can't find a piano teacher for boys so they are using an online free class for now.
Realtor that is trying to evict bad tenant, told me yesterday that guy got court to extend hearing two more weeks. Guess it's still a wait and see.

cleaning and organizing the laundry/prep room today. Then a trip to the store. Think I'll stock up on dog food this week. Also need to pick the okra, some of it has gotten too big to eat so I'm going to dehydrate it then grind it to a powder for soups or gravies or whatever. Monday I'm going to get tomatoes since ours haven't done as good as they could have. Fairly local place sells their B grade tomatoes cheap.

Just found out one RN on the unit handed in her notice yesterday. And 5 out of 16 RNs on my unit are now out for 'Covid Contact' ie: they came in contact with a person who either was Covid positive when they had contact, or were found to have been Covid positive after they had contact. Phone call (voicemail) and text from boss plus a text from another RN. I'm already working 7p->7a tonight so that's out; but they need bodies for Sat/Sun nights too. Sat is out 'cause grandson is playing football and I'm going to be there to watch the game; then the boys are coming to spend the night at my house - and me with no sleep other than what I'll get in the car to and from the game. Glad we live in BFE; the game is an hour and a half drive each way. REALLY glad daughter is driving. I send a text to daughter and head to the bank. Two more text messages from work while I'm in the dang drive up - for Pete's sake, gimme a minute. Daughter texts back. I already have to work Monday and Tuesday nights, so I agree to 11p-7a Sunday night. I can't remember how many days you have to be off work post contact. I'm betting there is a sign up sheet on the med room door when I get there tonight...

DH’s COVID test came back negative thank goodness. He‘s feeling much better and has gone to pick up some plumbing supplies after finding a little water in our small pantry in the basement. Sigh, it’s always something. It seems something is leaking in the wall of the bathroom over that area.

I have green beans to can either today or tomorrow depending on how long he’ll need to have the water off. I still need to wash jars too. Everything I was planning on doing today requires water!
