PLAY The Worst City in Every State

Blacknarwhal

Let's Go Brandon!
Turns out, for Michigan, it's Flint, which isn't much of a surprise. So what say you, residents of the various states? Did they call it?

We've always called Cairo the armpit of IL.

Other armpits:
Toledo
East St. Louis

Shocked at Wasilla--it has the Giant Cabbage!! I can't think of a "worst" city in AK. But that is why California got two.

Obviously D.C. is it's own nightmare.

Had lunch in Chinatown, Hawaii about a month ago. DH treated me to The Pig & the Lady. No snide remarks please, that's what the restaurant is called. No, really. Wouldn't go there at night but, during the day? Sure. If you visit just be aware of the astronomical surcharge added to the bill.

Brookings, South Dakota....no. It's a college town, and not very big. 24,000 population with the college students.

I would say Rapid City. Some would say Sioux Falls. Those are really the only two "cities" in South Dakota anyway. :spns:

Sparks, Nevada is essentially a suburb of Reno. It was once said: Reno is so close to Hell you can see Sparks.

There are worse places. But maybe they aren't cities. I wouldn't want to live at Dead Horse Wells, or Goldfield, for instance.

Looks like they just picked cities to get a rise. I've been to most states for service work. This map is nowhere close.
Like a coffee table book to strike up conversation. The only thing they got right was the placements of the states.

Just don't
So wrong about Manitowoc, WI. I've been here nearly 4 years now (5 blocks away from a beach on Lake Michigan), and I absolutely love it. Quintessential Wisconsin culture. Four outstanding craft breweries. A malt company that supplies malt to many of the best craft breweries in the nation. Nearly every restaurant has fabulous cheese curds. Salt of the earth neighbors. A live music scene worthy of a town twice its size - it even has a symphony orchestra (nearly unheard of for a city of 35,000). Have you ever needed ice when you're staying at a hotel? You're welcome! And I'll let you in on a secret... Charlie Berens nails the accent, especially when he performs here.

2nd that on Manitowoc, what?Racine or Beloit would be my first choice based on crime/proximity to Illinois welfare spillover. They are probably factoring in quality of life, average sunny temps and factory closures.

I would disagree on Iowa too, Keokuk wins by far sadly. They just had their regional hospital close for lack of surgical staff willing to live there. That's a huge quality of life issue. Subjective mapping.

Not sure where they get their information but as for Browning, Montana its not even a town. It’s a unincorporated community. The Headquarters for the Blackfeet Reservation. As for what it’s like now I cant say. Been a long time since I been there. I would think any other towns that have been over run by the liberals might be worse.

Yep. But never, ever go to Wasilla Alaska - day or night. Ever. They got that one right…Best to just avoid the whole Mat-Su Valley while you’re at it.

What do you think about Anchorage?

One of my little coworkers (barely 22 yrs old) will be moving there in August. She is following along behind her fiancé who is getting transferred there.

She needs to be packing at all times.
I have never lived in Anchorage but have been there a lot when we lived in Alaska.
I would never live there but then I would never live in a city either but for reference on crime rate here are a few statistics

I was worried about that. And suspected the worst soon as she told me where they were moving to.

She’s so young! And I guarantee you she ain’t packin….
I’m officially worried for her now. Just last month she told me she wants to learn canning and loves to stock food. We’ve had a few chats.

See any correlations here?

as in "where you have Africans you have Africa" maybe?

Let's play a game and find out the Whitest cities in the US and compare their crime rates and economic infrastructure.

and getting back to the subject of the "worst".........

Is the "troubled" community..........troubled because they are underserved?....(as liberals love to point out)..........

.......or is it that fact that they are underserved................. because they are troubled?

The simple reality is...........You don't hand out free bricks to people who will never build anything with it.

I lived in Anchorage, mostly up in the mountains above the city, for 48 of the 54 years I’ve lived in Alaska. It is much changed but still a nice place for the most part. The population in town is under 300,000, but the greater area stretches from Eklutna to the north and down to Hope south and across the inlet - totaling 400,000 people within its 1,960 square miles.

There are the usual city amenities, very good water from a glacier, incredible beauty every day everywhere. They do a pretty good job on road maintenance with summer repairs and winter clearing. Assuming everyone is carrying is a safe bet but we do have too many libs turning the city blue, as happens in many red states. Crime is high per capita, and a lot of that is due to the people arriving to run away from the trouble they got into in other states, gangs, homeless - as well as the statistical twist on low populations.

I would not be fearful of living there, but I greatly prefer to be away from any city. Many people commute for work in Anchorage from the Mat-Su Valley, but there are other bedroom communities within the Anchorage boundaries: Eagle River, Peter’s Creek, Chugiak - and from Girdwood south of the city. So there are options. Since her fiancé is being transferred, if he is military that means east side of town but that is not an area I’d choose. Better to live in Eagle River as it’s only 10 miles from JBEAR. Many opportunities and a lot of good jobs available if she wants to find work as well.

PM me if you want more info. :)
