I would worry more about the whiplash possible secondary military engagement with Poland, who is a member of NATO and there are small groups of European and American military there. If Belorus and Poland begin engagements along the border, it could be a full blown war.

Depends on the actions of other groups as well, such as if china goes after Taiwan (which would also put Japan, Guam, Philippines, and everything else down to Australia in MAJOR jeopardy as their next "targets"), AND let's not forget the 90,000...170,000...450,000 that they keep taking about heading northward to our southern border, many of which have declared their "armed intentions" for here). If this spreads to Poland then technically the US is involved as is most of the rest of Europe; as long as it stayed isolated to The Ukraine, a lot will depend on if the US already has troops there or not and if they become involved or not.

Update: Ukraine has said it has worked with foreign partners on a plan for a large-scale defense operation and a counter-offensive on certain sectors of the front in the event of a confrontation with Russia.
Oleksiy Arestovich, speaker of the Ukrainian delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group on Settlement of the Situation in Donbass: "Russia will lose its combat capability for five years if it decides to invade Ukraine."

During the visit of the U.S. Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin to Ukraine, a joint plan for a counteroffensive against Russia in the event of a full-scale attack was developed, said on air of the Ukraine 24 TV channel Advisor to the Head of the Ukrainian Presidential office, Oleksiy Arestovich.
According to him, the Ukrainian army is ready for any scenario, even for a full-scale conflict.
"The planning was made back in April. Joint response plans have been developed with international partners. Let me remind you that two weeks ago the U.S. Secretary of Defense Austin was in Ukraine [for this purpose]," Arestovich said.
According to Arestovich, the Russian army will lose its combat capability for five years if it tries to attack Ukraine.
"In addition, the consequences may be such that the Putin regime will be shaken. Huge sanctions and fines will be imposed, because the resistance will be provided not only by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, but by all Ukrainian people. This is quite clear. For example, I am much more afraid of economic pressure from Russia, and other tools that it can use. If they dare to attack, it will be the end of Putin's regime," Arestovich said.

ETA: on 'flag day' this june there was a parade down the main street in town. beautiful event. thousand of people, soldiers, marching bands, kids, old people, soldiers. and on the promenade where the march was, there was a demo of these people. maybe 25-30 people. everyone ignored them.
