Well that's just great. An escalatory reason to get involved with Iran. I mean might as well up the chaos level in the world. Everybody else is doing it.
I think it exciting! Definitely better than a video game or movie!!! Come on Mister Dober Debbie Downer! Turn that frown upside down! LOL.

They're trying their darndest to start WWIII.
Pretty sure it was already in play. WW3 that is.

Okay the first thing is this is really in KURDISTAN, which has a long and complex history with Iraq. So the US has independent diplomatic relations with the KURDS who happen to live in Iraq but have spent decades attacking Iran, Turkey, Iraq, Syria etc.

This might have been directed to the KURDS and only indirectly to the USA.
At any rate, the kurds have been fighting so long, and against so many different nations it would be hard to tell exactly who they pissed off to trigger this attack. Or it may have NOTHING to do with the KURDS at all. And that is why they call it the Middle East.:hof:

Missiles target US consulate in north Iraq, no casualties
by
QASSIM ABDUL-ZAHRA
• Associated Press • March 13, 2022

BAGHDAD — At least six missiles were fired Sunday toward the U.S. consulate in Iraq's northern city of Irbil, with several missiles hitting the building, Iraqi and U.S. security officials said. A U.S. official said the missiles were launched from neighboring Iran.

Early reports suggested there were no U.S. military casualties, a senior U.S. defense official said.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because information was still coming in, said it was still not certain exactly how many were fired and exactly where they landed. It also wasn't clear if there were other casualties.

The Iraqi security officials said there were no immediate report of casualties from the attack, which occurred shortly after midnight and caused material damage in the area. They spoke on condition of anonymity in line with regulations.

One of the officials said the ballistic missiles were fired from Iran, without elaborating.

The attack comes several days after an Israeli strike near Damascus, Syria killed two members of Iran's Revolutionary Guard. Iran's foreign ministry strongly condemned the attack Wednesday and vowed revenge.

On Sunday, Iran's state-run IRNA news agency quoted Iraqi media acknowledging the attacks in Irbil, without saying where they originated.

Satellite broadcast channel Kurdistan24, which is located near the U.S. consulate, went on air from their studio shortly after the attack, showing shattered glass and debris on their studio floor.

A security statement said Irbil was targeted "with a number of missiles" early Sunday, adding that security forces were investigating the incident and would release more details later.

The attack comes as negotiations in Vienna over Tehran's tattered nuclear deal hit a "pause" over Russian demands about sanctions targeting Moscow over its war on Ukraine.

Just in from State Dept:
There is no damage or casualties at any U.S. Government facility. The incident is being investigated by the government of Iraq & the Kurdish Regional Government & we refer you to them for comment.
We condemn this outrageous attack & display of violence

That's it? They condemn the display of violence but it's not our business, refer to Iraq and Kurdish gov'ts?

Why am I not surprised..... :shk:

Which begs the question of to what degree did Tehran collude with Moscow?.....

I'd say pretty high. As in - for certain. imho.

Who the hell is Tyler Rogoway?

I was wondering the same thing - according to wikipedia:

The War Zone (TWZ)[1] is an online magazine oriented towards national security and geopolitical coverage and analysis. The magazine was created in 2016 by founder and editor-in-chief Tyler Rogoway. The publication stands "at the nexus of military technology, strategy, and foreign policy" covering the full spectrum of modern warfare across air, sea, land, space, and cyber domains, with an emphasis on providing geopolitical context. The site maintains a highly loyal audience of tech and defense enthusiasts, defense and national security industry professionals, and military members and veterans. It is the sister publication of The Drive and an imprint of Recurrent Ventures, a subsidiary of North Equity. While co-branded with sister publication The Drive, and hosted on the same website, it is an independent publication with its own masthead.

If I'm remembering correctly, the last time a USA Iraqi base was fired upon the immediate press release was there were no casualties. later on it came out there were. I don't remember if there were any deaths, but soldiers reported head injuries.

Looked it up:

Up to 109 suffered brain injuries back in Feb 2020. I don't think there was any follow up as to fatalities that may have resulted from their injuries.

If they weren't reported as immediate fatalities, likely none died soon after. But closed head injuries can be insidious, and cause many problems down the road. They certainly aren't something to be taken lightly, and we have a huge percentage 9f service people who will suffer effects the rest of their lives due to the type of war we've been waging.

MARANTHA!! Even so, come LORD JESUS!!!
War with Russia or China will turn nuclear and everyone looses.

Texican....

Yes, but I think war with Iraq is war with Russia by proxy. Who knows how fast THAT could go hot.....and I don't discount Iraq....I think they are quite capable of ALL forms of distruction, be it nuclear, bio or chemical ...from anywhere....off our coast, inside our country....too many insane jahidists.

Why do I picture 0bama, Susan Rice, Kerry, Brennan and Valerie J, the Iranian 5 (just made that name up!), all on a zoom call with the State Dept telling them to completely downplay this? And meanwhile there's a meeting of responsible generals somewhere deciding to bypass the Iranian 5, who call Jill and tell her to wake up Joe? And a thoroughly confused Joe being led by whoever is more persuasive?

Son in law one of them -- 100% medical retirement from the TBI - "non-injury" no fatalities at the time, 2 suicides so far since

We sure have a bunch of idiots in the State Department. Nothing will be done. They have to save the nuke deal and buy oil. That is all they are thinking about.
These are ivy league best and brightest that brought us Benghazi, Afghanistan pull-out, and now by their brilliant display of moronic inability to project power because they believe LGBTQ... flags and woke training sessions will win us the next war they bring us China invading Taiwan.

The Biden crime family and Your neighborhood clueless democrat will be responsible for us mumbling and stumbling into WW 3. Only because your demo neighbor’s kids are out on $200,000 student loan debt at Oberlin taking gender studies with a minor in Lesbian comics in the 1970’s they ain’t going to be on the many front lines.

Maybe when we Force the kids of democrats to fight the next war on the front line, then maybe they will consider their policies with their heads out of their collective @$$’s. Hell for the reserves we can send in the clowns from the state department, we will even let them attack waving their inclusive flags!
