We have had sanctions on Iran since Jimmy Carter . . . 40 years . . . because sanctions work so well.
Iran, Cuba, North Korea, Syria and Russia.
Yep, sanctions.
Definitely the way to go.
Well it looks much like prosecuting Desert Storm I, sanctions aren't tight enough or followed through on. An outright embargo is decried as inhumane to the population and, unless I misread something, cutting off Japan's access to scrap metal and fuel were the last straws in getting them to attack Pearl.

I don't know that sanctions are the best solution but short of never-ending conflict to impose good behaviours on some rogue states, I can't think of another way. The US has more than enough Gold Star families for that.

A tougher problem than I can suggest a solution for although having JB at the helm in this situation makes me more worried.

did you notice how sanctions affected prices here?
and you noticed that the Administration started negotiating with Venezuela (which there are sanctions against) for increased oil in order to reduce prices?

you pay for sanctions in increased prices.

so by saying
"I don't know that sanctions are the best solution but short of never-ending conflict to impose good behaviours on some rogue states, I can't think of another way. "
you are saying you would be willing to make me pay $10/gal for gas - or whatever amount you want.

What was the goal on sanctions on Cuba? Did it work? Did good behaviors precipitate from the sky like a fresh spring rain?
Are US citizens still paying the price for those sanctions?

Saudi Arabia just chopped off the heads of 80 people. No sanctions. Good behavior?

I said I don't know what would better and I think we're all pretty aware of how the current sanctions on Russian oil are effecting us. BTW, if you're paying $10.00/gal, so am I. I don't have an oil well & a refinery in the backyard.
