Putting stickers directly on packaged food is not very smart. There are likely laws about food tampering which could be interpreted very loosely.
where can I buy these stickers?

I could've wrote this. It's my story too. My friend asked me the other day why I keep free-loaders around. (the ones who no longer lay eggs) I can't bare to kill them. They have a home for life. They served me well with eggs when they were young and now the younger ones are doing the sam in ine. But here on the VA/Tn line, feed is starting to cost a lot more and is getting harder to stock up on. I just went last week and I think I have enough to make it through winter.
[/QUOTE. My neighbor got rid of her 6 chickens. I don't know why.
I just watched a grocery haul video, which I rarely do anymore, they make me want to go shopping. One thing she mentioned was acetaminophen, just out of curosity I looked at walmart.com and they are completely out of the equate brand and on amzzon a 500 count bottle is $14.82 and that's the amazon brand. I have some stored, but DH takes a lot of it, he may have to buy his own in the future.

ETA: I looked at "my list" on walmart and what popped up was Extra strength acetaminophen, 2 bottles for 9.98, looks like I put the wrong search terms in. However, they are out of a lot of acetaminophen .

can you try Dollar Tree?
We went into San Antonio on Friday, and went to Costco. For the most part, they had stock but if you've gone there several times (like we have), you can tell that they are placing it carefully to make it look like they've got a lot. Gaps in the stock above our heads. Gaps in meat. No canned (wet) cat food at all. Veggies were one of the places where they'd artfully arranged to make it look like they had a lot, and Son (Trucker Son was with us, just left this morning) said, "This is mostly what I haul to CC. Why are they so low?? Where is it going?"

As an aside, he dropped us off so we could run into the bathroom (it's a long trip, lol) and parked the car. They made me walk all the way back to the door to show my card so he could enter, which they have never done before.

We then stopped at HEB in Boerne on the way home. No canned or dried cat food at all. Oddly, they had some things my local HEB didn't have. I don't need that--I have a nice, full pantry--but I got some things anyway. But they were very short on some other things. And yes, the Valentine aisle looked picked over and sparse.

We have 10 cats, one inside who eats canned food (she's ok) and 9 outside who eat dried food. I have a good stock in the pantry of dried food, but I will be in trouble if there's a permanent shortage. I can't keep it anywhere but on the floor in the pantry because the inside cat will chew through the paper and eat! Obviously the garage is out because apparently 10 cats can't keep mice from entering it. So I am limited to the amount I can keep on hand. Son pointed out, cheap-ish dry cat food uses grain as a filler--and China is hoarding all of their grain at the moment.
The. Chinese place here sells the 5 gallon buckets for a dolly each. I put my dry cat food in it so they don't scratch the bags. I have stock bags in the kitchen but they don't go in there. Try the buckets. Lids are tight.

They had left over frozen turkeys from the holidays at Stop and Shop today. Bought one at a decent price and am defrosting it now in the fridge for next week. Also found a few whole chickens that were decent. I froze those. Keep trying to find things that will feed us for several days at a whack plus be able to make soup afterwards.oh and I found cream cheese! I bought two blocks plus a tub of the whipped for my youngest. Very few left though so whatever they got in went back out very quickly. People seemed very glum and I found a few women in the pasta aisle staring at the few boxes that were left priced 2.59…
OMG I couldn't afford that. I will have to check Aldies next time.
so, quick trip to the Meijer yesterday (Thursday). Just north of Indy. Took one of the "small" carts - 2 tiered, meant for small shopping trips - and I really hadn't intended to buy as much as I did, but things I noticed...
  • The only thing I couldn't find (which was the main item on the list)... was frozen hamburger patties... at Meijer. Wasn't about to pay $12+ for one of the few boxes of 6 "premium grade" burgers.
  • Ramen noodle cups are still almost non-existent (bought most of what they had that DD favors). Ramen noodle packs were also extremely thin. I'm happy that I bought online. I'll buy what I can when in the store, but know that I have a reserve.
  • Instant mashed potatoes - almost gone; multi-serving boxes and the single meal packets - I have not seen that before. Found a couple that the family likes and added them to my cart.
  • Pasta- some holes on the shelves; but I wasn't buying.
  • Produce fairly good, but again - I wasn't buying, so didn't look at quality or quantity closely.
  • Cream cheese products - better than its been, but not great.
  • Wine - still holding steady at the usual prices. Picked up a couple of bottles. :chg:
Prices, of course, rising. What (I think) would normally cost $70-80 was almost 100.
I'm gonna look for pasta. We can always make "buttered pasta" with salt, pepper and some butter. I wanted the stick butter Wed, but was $4.45!! I ended up buying a round tub for $3.25.
So Thor is pickier than all get out in his old age, he's pushing 16 or so, which makes finding his cat food a real challenge right now. Yesterday I ordered 3 18 pound bags of Purina Cat Chow Naturals from Chewy, today they're out of stock! I was pleased that the food had been delivered this morning. His favorite Fancy Feast wet food is pretty much out of stock everywhere or the price is so high as to not be doable. I'm waiting on four cases of the one type of FF he likes to arrive still, I have five cases left and I'm worried that once those are gone that's it. I need to find something that the kittens will eat, FF isn't bad for them but I need to save that for Thor.

Btw I'm no longer able to find any of his foods he eats locally, have been ordering them online.
I worry a lot about the pets food. What the hell is going on? This is like the old Soviet Union.
Just came back from a brand new Walmart. Had to make a pet food run. Not.A.Single.Can. of cat food on the shelves. I bought two bags of the good dry stuff.
No chicken, and very little meat of any kind at all. Most of he other shelves were empty or picked clean.
I got some canned meats.
this is very worry some!!
DH just unpacked another 12 cases of cat food and 4 bags of dry cat food. Chewy and Walmart. Don't have a clue if this is stupid or smart. Only time will tell I guess. But with 7 cats depending on me I cant take a chance on running out.
you are NOT stupid!! You are very smart!!!

Or, it’s too bad cats can’t EAT Ramen lol!
But cats like tomato sauce!! At least all mine do. Cook up some Ramon and mix in some sauce? Chop up in small pieces. So stock up on Ramon and sauce for emergency cat food. Also can add in just a BIT of can cat food or tuna. Dollar Tree has cans of makerol fish cheap. Just mix it all up real good and chop small. I bet they would eat it.

My great niece did a delivery order from Acme for herself and for me yesterday and it came this afternoon.
I received half my order. I was missing 7 Healthy Choice Cafe Steamer dinners, chip dip, and one other item. It was about the same for my niece’s order.
I don’t cook any more, as I can’t reach the knobs of the stove safely on my scooter, so I use the toaster oven and microwave. I buy easily to prepare meals that are reasonably healthy and add salad, etc.

Thankfully, the things I needed most did come. We’re in N. E. Ohio.
I usually use the toaster oven or the Crock-Pot or the rice cooker myself. I hardly cook on the stove. Stove broke so I have a hot plate. Don't like it.
We live in SW MO and do a lot of driving around. We have noticed almost no fields of wheat coming up. Are farmers not planting wheat this year? The only wheat fields we've seen are in the state and national parks for wildlife. Does this mean a bread shortage for us and the world next summer?

What are the rest of you noticing???
sounds like it. Stock up on flour and yeast? Put in freezer?
Mid South. So I went to WM this AM...
When I tried to go down the cat food aisle, an elderly man had blocked the entire aisle with his cart. I scanned and saw that they only had 1 bag of my guy's brand of dry food left, so I squeezed past him and got it. He started to say something to me, but the look on my face must have stopped him. I far surpassed my tolerance for BS last week. I figured that I'd go grab my cleaning supplies a couple of aisles over and come back and get canned, and hopefully he would be gone.
So I grab my cleaning stuff and come back and this couple sees that I'm turning in the cat food aisle and the man cuts me off with their cart, turns it cross ways across the aisle, and started throwing canned food in it. They had like 100 cans in 5 seconds, he was buying the big multi-packs and she started dumping in single cans. I thought, "Geez, maybe I am going to get in a fist fight in the cat food aisle." I looked really fast but they didn't have any of the flavors that my cats will eat. When I left, they were still stacking food in the cart....
The store had no Nido. None of the Compleats that I eat. Only breaded chicken breasts, I bought them anyway.
It looked like they took out an entire aisle or more, they had moved things around and I had to hunt to find some items.
One of my friends in Mississippi said that his WM yesterday had NO cereal at all. Not one box...
hell I would have pushed his cart aside and start throwing cans in MY cart TOO!!! And yes there would be a fight and I would tell the manager that they are HOARDING and to put a stop to it!!!
I wish I was there with you cuz I woulda pushed his cart aside and started throwing cans in YOUR cart too!! Things like this really piss me off. I may worry about certain THINGS and believe in Woo, but I am NOT afraid of people!! I have a loud Italian mouth and those people would be SO embarrassed when I got through calling them Hoarders!!

Now this Prairie Dog is getting scared!! I have a big American bulldog and two little ones. I guess I'm gonna have to stock up more. What if we can't get ANY dog or cat food? This is getting serious!!

Hey, I have an older girlfriend who hates to cook. She buys frozen precooked rice and veggies....puts it in a strainer and runs real hot water over it and then eats it!! I told her she's washing away all the nutrients. I can't imagine doing that, but I bought a few bags, threw it in my large Chinese tea pot, added water and in 15 minutes I had a good meal. Of course I added butter and garlic pd. She eats it plain....YUK!!

I never buy most can dog food cuz they have "animal byproducts which could be brains, feathers, chicken feet and beaks etc. Horses??

Have a younger brother who is the very definition of a cheapskate. He had always fed his two sweet, loyal dogs Walmart Old Roy.

I doubt if either one tasted real meat their lives.

Both got ill and passed away.

Thankfully he never got another dog.

possums are sweet and docile and they only live under 2 yrs in the wild. They can have ten babies. They stay on Mom's back till they fall off
When they are older.

Bad food. Has corn and soy in it. GMO. Yrs ago had recall cuz of some kind of deadly mold from corn. I give mine lamb and rice Rachel Ray. I tasted it. Real good tasting. I ate 5 pieces it was so good. Has no corn, wheat or soy.
Possums carry EPM which can be deadly or at least detrimental. to a horse's ability to function. It is a very debilitating disease that is neuroglial. I will kill everyone that I come across if given the chance. Nasty vial creatures.

I have to treat my horse on a regular basis for it and a friends horse nearly died and is now unusable.

You may be shortening your dog's life by feeding inferior dog food. I used to buy the frozen pork roll, cook it with a good amount of water and add either elbow pasta or dry oatmeal. Mixed good. They loved it.

In some cases yes BUT Henry was a rescue at 6 years old (he's 12 now). He was found on the streets in Pahrump, then was in 3 shelters, a foster home, adopted and brought back before I got him in Las Vegas. I have no clue what he ate during those times. I see some of the bougie dog food and they always have recalls. I'm sure Pedigree has too but this is what I've always fed my dogs- sometimes add green beans. They actually did worse when I was making their food. I clean up the yard so would notice if there was an issue. Overall they've been healthy. We tried Ol' Roy once when we still had our chocolate lab and never again. That outcome was disgusting.

Everyone has to decide for themselves I guess but like kids, if they are hungry enough they'll eat what's in front of them.

We went to the big city to do our shopping. We’ve been on lock-down for two years now. I have a heart condition, hypertension, diabetic, in the obese category, and over 60. If we bring this home I’m toast.

We try to go this time of the month after all the food stamp people clear out. Went to WINCO the creamer the wife likes went up 50¢ a bottle that’s a 25% increase. All in all we got about 2/3 of what we normally get for the same money.

I’m disabled Vietnam Vet on a fixed income. The chump change increase they throw at me isn’t going to make it. If this don’t stop soon I’ll have to come up with a plan. Don’t get me wrong we’re doing OK, but at some point…

Sorry about the rant, but cool Joe just might be checking his foxhole.

They will kill chickens and barn cats too. We've had this happens. They aren't welcome around here.

We're on a fixed income. I've always had a budget for my groceries. That budget has already had to be altered twice to account for the increase in prices. It can't be adjusted anymore, or it will cut into savings for other things. I used to be able to spend a lot of that budget on storage foods and supplies each time I went shopping, along with my regular groceries for two weeks. Now, I'm doing good just to buy what we need for a two week supply of basics, and very little to put back in storage. It's getting harder to just replace what I use out of my storage pantry every two weeks.

I went to the local grocery store this morning. My daughter sent me money to get chicken breasts that are on sale to can for her. There were only 4 packs out. I asked the butcher if there were any in the back room. I was willing to take unpackaged ones to save them some time. He said no, that they’re only getting 1/5th of what they’re ordering.
The rest of the store had a lot less than usual too. A lot of fronting of only one or two boxes.

I know what you mean, I just had a big hit to my income and all I can say is I'm blessed to have a very full pantry. I can't see any extras in my future. But we are still blessed. DH did not get a deer this year, none came his way, but we have several freezers with meat in them. I bought most of the groceries in the past but now DH will have to pick up the slack.

I understand. Cary has already started taking up some of the slack here. He's paying for some of the things I once paid for out of my budget money. He can't take up anymore, though.

The thing I have noted is the "spotty" outages. It's half in half out of quarts but pints are in stock in limited quantities, One week it's eggs (with the fancy ones at 4 X the price there again in limited quantity). The next week the bread shelves are empty. Grapefruit juice disappears for 4 to 5 days. Frozen potato products totally empty freezer shelves. Butter another week with a few unsalted and Irish premium taking up a little space. Bread flour was gone for a month. Next month both AP and bread flour were disappeared. No rye flour to be had. Last month cooking oil went away. There seems to be no consistent rhyme or reason to it. I know the grunts that order and stock the shelves as we're a fairly small community. They tell me that they never know what or how much of an order will show up if at all. Plenty of toilet paper though. There's enough to wipe away the occasional big city visitor's XXXX attitude. You should hear them whine when they can't get what they want. We had to explain to a poor soul in the baking aisle that her yeast had not gone bad when she had a breakdown to see no yeast. (First time baker eh). We explained to her that she could "proof" the two year old yeast she had and assured here it had not gone bad nor would it poison her. I'm thankful for the stock of staples and the garden. A flash light and a single shot 22 helps as well. I was raised by depression babies. My people will not go hungry as long as I draw breath. Heck I hear yuppie tourists smoke up pretty good :)

Fruit and Veggie Outages in Canada Get Worse With Trucker Shortages - Bloomberg

@jenskerritt@ElizabethElkin

Canadian border agents began refusing entry to unvaccinated American truckers just days ago, and it’s already causing chaos -- particularly in fruit and vegetable markets.
A driver heads back to their truck after stopping at Canadian Customs heading towards the U.S. at the border in St-Bernard-de-Lacolle, Quebec, Canada, on Jan. 14.

A driver heads back to their truck after stopping at Canadian Customs heading towards the U.S. at the border in St-Bernard-de-Lacolle, Quebec, Canada, on Jan. 14.
Photographer: Christinne Muschi/Bloomberg

A mandate starting Jan. 15 requires truck drivers crossing into Canada to be vaccinated. However, only about half of American truck drivers have gotten their shots. Meanwhile, as much as 90% of Canada’s fruits and vegetables comes from the U.S. during winter, and grocery stores are already having trouble getting some shipments, according to the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers.
“We’re seeing shortages,” said Gary Sands, senior vice president of the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers. “We’re hearing from members they’re going into some stores where there’s no oranges or bananas.'”

The mandate is adding to Canada’s supply chain turmoil that was already abundant due to recent storms as well as the pandemic. Shipping snarls and logistical headwinds have been blamed for rising inflation across the globe. Prices for consumers will likely rise as freight costs soar. Sending one truckload of fresh produce from California or Arizona to Canada is now $9,500, up from an average of $7,000, according to North American Produce Buyers. That works out to an additional cost of 12 Canadian cents per head of lettuce, according to the company.

The price to bring food and other exports over the border has doubled on some routes given the drop in eligible truckers, according to Alex Crane, operations manager at Paige Logistics, a freight broker in Surrey, British Columbia. That’s leaving hundreds of shipments bound for the U.S. waiting in warehouses to be picked up and trucked when and if carriers can find drivers to haul them, he said. The goods include everything from food to plumbing parts to gazebos.
“We have shipments all over the place not going out,’’ Crane said by phone. “They are just sitting at warehouses, waiting waiting.’’
The situation is only set to worsen with the U.S. imposing its own vaccine mandate on foreign travelers starting Jan. 22. The Canadian Trucking Association estimates the mandate will take as many as 16,000 drivers off the road.

The lack of truckers could potentially create “more of a shortage than what we’re experiencing now,” said Victor Smith, chief executive officer of JV Smith Companies, a grower and distributor of leafy greens. That’s because trucking is the only option for transportation. Rail service isn’t available everywhere, and shipping by air is too expensive.

Dairy trade between Canada and the U.S. may also take a hit. Canada is the sixth largest destination for U.S. exports, and nearly all of the volume moves by truck, said Nate Donnay, director of dairy market insight at StoneX Group.
“Any significant hiccup in the movement of dairy into Canada isn’t good news for dairy farmers,’’ Donnay said.

Why mandate jabs for "foreign" truckers? It makes no sense other than big government overreach.

The truckers are very temporary visitors hauling essential commodities. They come in, drop off their loads, and get out as fast as they can. The truckers don't interact physically with many people nor do they usually handle the cargo.

I haven't been adding to my pantry since I'm preparing to move. But I do still buy essentials like fresh produce or things I need to make a specific dish and of course bacon. LOL I cannot ever NOT buy bacon. I'm down to 4 packs though and that's low for me.

Yeah, all of us here take better care of our pets than we do ourselves I bet. I always feed my dogs before I eat. Even then they still want a bite of my sandwich., So I end up with less but that's ok as long as they are happy. I like ham and cheese - so do they!

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser Asks Residents to Begin Voluntary Rationing of Food at Grocery Stores - The Last Refuge

2 minutes

For those of you who have prepared it is wise to remember the advice that always accompanies the final stages of preparation. Once you are prepared, shut up, zip it, run silent and run deep.

The reason is simple comrades, when the “voluntary rationing” phase concludes, those who have prepared are quickly cast as ‘hoarders” and targeted by those who created the desperation. It has always been thus.

DC Mayor and COVID Compliance Minister, Muriel Bowser, asks residents in/around her region to enter a phase of voluntary rationing. What comes after the voluntary phase is the part many have been studiously preparing to avoid.

DC-FEMA-Rationing.jpg

In the bigger picture… I find it rather revealing that only when leftist policies are followed to their natural conclusion do you see officials in the leftist economic system they created, a system not coincidentally always based on the outcome of scarcity, asking people not to engage in economic activity.

Chasing socialism always creates an outcome where the expressed intent from government is NOT to buy stuff, rationing. Socialism, or leftism in its modern form, always creates scarcity; it is the diametric outcome of a free capitalistic society.
