Hubby and I went to three walmarts and dollar stores to get ten gallons of bottled water last weekend. It's getting harder and harder to find.

The eggs were almost gone and I ended up getting the 18 pack of free range organic brown eggs at almost five dollars ! Eggs are a necessity here for my low carb way of eating. The prepacked lunch meat and hot dogs were almost bare (I don't normally get that anyway, just noticed it).

The Ritz cheese crispers he likes are now 2.99 a box. They are up almost a dollar. Much more increase and I won't buy them anymore.

I saw long expired half n half in Walmart nearest me, expired by five days. Never have seen them shelve bad dairy before.

We buy mostly organic and natural foods. (Its part of our own healthcare)

We are trying to get ahead of the inflation before it hits our wholefoods.

This weeks special is chicken so its time to load up.

The engineered inflation has hit Publix.

BOGO is how we stock up there but not much of that lately.

Walmart still has a few deals we keep tabs on but thats about it unless the clearance section has something random.

Weekly shopping trip to Smith's in NE NV. We are at least 3-4 hours away from any city of size in all directions, and yet there are no shortages like others are experiencing in rural areas. I am beginning to wonder if it is because this area is home to some of the largest gold mines in the world.

There are no limits on anything. The store is barely 20% (if that) through a very slow remodel, so there are some screaming deals to be had, especially in the cleaning and automotive products, and I did well this week. Most everything was well stocked. Deli meats were a little thin. Some vegetables were pretty thin or absent, but nothing critical. Bacon was again on sale at $4/12 oz, so that was nice to see. There were about a dozen turkeys and loads of fresh cranberries.

I have no doubt that we will experience shortages and then possibly famine, but it's not here yet and no one seems to be worried about it.

Well say a prayer for me, tomorrow I plan to drive to the next town south of me because their Aldi not only has cranberries, but it also has whole bone on hams. For some reason our Aldi only has spiral sliced hams this year. My friend also assures me that that Aldi also has seededrye bread, something I’ve never seen at my Aldi. I’ll also be visiting Fareway and possibly HyVee on the main drag. Guess this means I’ll need to get gas for my car.

I might be cranky tomorrow night.

My church is serving Thanksgiving dinner for the community soon. I'm signed up to take a cranberry salad which requires two bags of cranberries. So far I haven't seen any locally so guess I'll have to make a trip to town. Fifty mile round trip for cranberries does not make me happy.

My husband found plenty of turkeys at one of the H-E-B stores here in College Station this afternoon. ALL sizes, several different brands including Butterball, etc. He said there were plenty to be had. I've had very good luck with Riverside brand, and he picked up two of those at 77¢ a pound. He also picked up two big bags of fresh cranberries and said they had lots of those, as well.

Grocery store trip today, most notable thing: Three grocery stores to get heavy cream. First two had zero half & half, light cream, heavy cream.
Heavy cream at store number three was $2 more than what the other two charge.

Also, arrived at store one five minutes after pharmacy was supposed to open. Looked like lights were off, so went looking for heavy cream and couple items I had coupons for. Got to pharmacy a couple minutes later. They were just barely opening the security barrier. Pharmacist tells me my prescription was less than $1. I offer to pay cash. He gives me a look. I say I can just use plastic if it's easier. He says I'm just going to give it to you because this register isn't turned on and there's no till.

Good news, $14 in coupons for stuff I buy. Except for some aged cheddar that was $2.50 off $6.99.

In all my years, in all the stores I've been in, heavy cream and whipping cream are items that are never stocked in large quantities.

Our local Kroger in n central Indiana was jammed with just about everything on Thursday! They even had turkeys and hams but the prices are pretty high.
The only*** bare spots I saw might have been soft drinks but when then, I’ve seen a lot worse.
The bacon area had sales. Wright bacon was on sale but I can’t remember the price right now, I think it was 9.99$ (?)!

Still too pricey for me but at least it’s a sale.
Other brands were on sale too, like our delicious Indiana Kitchen brand bacon, and Kroger brand center cut on sale.

Vitacost had no canned veggies this last time and limits on a lot of items. Plus they used to ship from Nevada I think next day and my most recent order is shipped from Kentucky. They package well but one of the main reasons I bought certain items in glass from them was the next day delivery. So I'm concerned about the glass jars as they won't arrive till Tues. So still stocking up where I find an item or hoarding as the evil cookie monsters like to call it.

The only Sams Club within 50 miles of our farm closed about 2 years after an Aldi moved in within a mile. They run a tight ship, and if the profits aren't there, they have no problem shutting a store.

Damn, and I heard for years and years and years that WallyWorld moved in and all other businesses would die and nobody could ever open a new store again!

Are they closing down some Sam’s Club stores? This can’t be because of shortages. Can anyone catch what location he said? Something “City.”

Run time 3:52

BEFORE covid... WM and SC had slated X number of stores they were closing, these are smaller stores and clubs stores. Costco had announced the same thing. I think the only stores that are expanding are Dollar General, Dollar Tree, and Aldi. HyVee has closed a couple of their larger stores here in central Iowa and has replaced it with something called HyVee Fresh, and they're using one other name... basically they are now competing with Aldi.

Dollar Fresh is HyVee's new name for it's small stores. They're more like an old fashioned grocery store product and theme wise.

I had to fill some prescriptions last night at Publix. And decided to shop while I was there. It was cold and rainy and I thought hot apple cider sounded good. I didn’t check the price until I scanned it at the self checkout. It was $11.29!!! I told the checkout girl sorry, but I was not paying that much for cider and had her take it off. I’m used to it being $5-$6 a gallon here. Also, the pharmacy was a hot mess. It took two hours to fill my prescriptions. And they didn’t have the cough syrup. None of the local stores had it. I had to run to Target and have them fill it 15 minutes before they closed.

I like that expression "a hot mess". I've only ever heard one other person use it, and that was here in Central Texas. Unclear where she learned it, as I suspect that phrase is regional. It's one of those words or phrases that you immediately know what it means when you first hear it. Time for some research. Looks like you're in the Southeast.

[edit] doesn't seem to be regional at all. Looks like it started in the 19th century; used to refer to a hot meal of no particular flavor or shape. Now it refers to a chaotic situation. Great phrase. I'm gonna start using it. I'm going to Home Depot later today; probably get to use it there.

We say that up here in Michigan all the time.

Dollar General, Dollar Tree, and Dollar Fresh? Brandon's inflation will necessitate name changes, as soon nothing will cost a dollar.

Sawbuck General, Sawbuck Tree, and Sawbuck Fresh sounds about right.

Well the regular HyVee stores here could be dubbed whole paycheck! The Dollar Fresh stores are going into smaller towns that have no store other than say Dollar General, sometimes these towns have only a Casey's which is a Cstore/gas station that also sells pizza. The dollar fresh stores sell bulk items and generic goods, not name brand from what I understand.

Dollar General and Dollar Fresh are not dollar stores. They just have the word dollar in the name.
Dollar Tree is a dollar store. Maybe they won't be soon, they are testing a $5 section in some stores.

Very interesting! Thanks for looking it up! I too assumed it was Southern. I grew up here in Charleston, South Carolina and it’s pretty common.

I forgot to mention that when I was at the drs office I was given hard copies of my prescriptions because the dr told me that they’d been getting calls all day from different pharmacies that were out of prescribed medications. She said that it would give me more control over where I filled them. Just a heads up. Not sure what medications are running out locally, but I imagine there are shipping issues with them also.

I'm savoring the Pepsi I have on-hand because with the rising prices I think I will be eliminating it as a regular purchase.

I'm on Medicare and have the RX insurance. A couple years ago I switched plans. In December I filled my RX for 90 days under the old policy. In January I took my new information (changed supplemental and RX) to doctors office and asked them to send my prescriptions to the new company. Anyway, I thought the new RX would be filled in 60 days, but they were filled immediately which has given me a 60 cushion for meds. It was not deliberate but I'm so thankful for that cushion especially the way things are going now.

Our small local store continues to have good prices on pork and chicken. Excellent quality on pork and same as everywhere for chicken. I'm going to keep checking for cranberries locally for another week then if none will have to go to town.

Bossier City, Louisiana I believe
Bossier City?

Are you sure their Sam’s Club is closing?

That seems like an odd one to close - so close to Barksdale AFB, and so close to WalMart HQ in Bentonville... And right near the I-20 interstate

i would expect stores in FarOffsVille, Montana or NorthHardToReach, Maine to be the best candidates for closing.

We often use FUBAR here which I believe originated from the military.

Fu+ked Up Beyond All Recognition.

Seems like it's making a comeback with Let's Go Brandon.

Day by day
We did a quick stop at HEB while near the store today. They had plenty - scads - of turkeys. We grabbed a few fresh breasts-only turkeys today, cooked one already and it's terrific. Plan is to grab a few more, debone them and vacuum seal the meat, and make broth with the carcasses and freeze that, too.
