RACE Protests in Kansas City after homeowner shoots Black teen

The article at the bottom of page 1 said he shot through a “glass door,“ quite a bit different than shooting through a “closed door” or just “door.” That would imply that that they were adequately (maybe) communicating before any shot was fired. So what was said/done in the moments leading up to the shot?

Black teen shot after ringing wrong doorbell is a gifted chemistry student and a 'gentle soul,' former teacher says

Ralph Yarl, 16, is recovering with two bullet wounds in Kansas City, Missouri.

The 16-year-old boy who was shot after he rang the wrong doorbell to pick up his brothers, is a gentle soul” and gifted student who wants to study chemical engineering in college, a former teacher said.

Ralph was shot Thursday evening after his parents asked him to pick up his 11-year-old twin brothers and he mistakenly went to a home in the 1100 block of Northeast 115th Street instead of Northeast 115th Terrace in Kansas City, Missouri, police said.

A Good Samaritan who ran to Yarl's aid said, "He didn't deserve to get shot."

He was stable in a hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. He was released Saturday and is recovering at home, said attorney Lee Merritt, who has been retained by the family.

Megan Lilien, who taught Ralph at the Missouri Scholars Academy, a three-week residential program for academically gifted students, said he was a "highly intelligent" and observant student, curious about the world.

He was among 330 rising high school juniors chosen last summer to attend the prestigious program, which requires a nomination, at the University of Missouri’s Columbia campus.

“He was curious, intelligent. He’s quiet, but he’s literally taking in the world. You just notice. He’s just observing everything,” Lilien said.

She taught a college-level chemistry-based science class and spent about three hours in the lab with Ralph and about 17 other students every day of the program.

“He has this sweet face. He wasn’t the one who was talking all the time or answering all the questions, but you knew he was learning at all times. He was kind. He was definitely respected by everyone in the group,” Lilien said.

“He was still working, still trying to figure out the problem, when we had to wrap up,” she added.

She said the news of the shooting “has me feeling nauseous.”

“It’s devastating. There are no words. I just don’t know how something like this happens. It’s unimaginable. This is a kid who doesn’t deserve to be experiencing this in his life at all,” Lilien said. “I just have to think about the positive and that he’s going to be able to pursue his dream.”

On the last night of the summer program, as part of a tradition, the students light a candle and share a memory of a time at the camp that made a difference to them.

Lilien said Ralph’s memory touched her, but she did not want to share what he said. “I want to keep that sacred,” she said.

Ralph is also a clarinetist who recently earned Missouri All-State Band recognition with an honorable mention.

Black Missouri teen shot twice after ringing wrong doorbell

Brad Hudson, the Missouri All-State Band coordinator, said that 1,500 students auditioned in December to be part of the Missouri All-State Band and that Ralph was recognized in the Honorable Mention Band for bass clarinet. Musicians in that category do not perform but are recognized in the program, he said.

Ralph, a junior at Staley High School in Kansas City, is an excellent student and a talented musician, the superintendent of North Kansas City Schools said in a statement Monday.

"He maintains a stellar GPA while taking mostly college level courses," Dan Clemens said. "While he loves science and hopes to pursue that career path, his passion is music. Thankfully, we know he is now recovering alongside family."

"I know that many of you share the same anger, frustration, shock and disbelief that I am experiencing now. We must allow time for the investigation to be completed."

A 'funny' friend, passionate about band and being with his family

Faith Spoonmore, Ralph’s aunt, said that he is "healing" and that the family is taking it "one day at a time."

“It’s day by day, minute by minute. He has his good times where we’ll remind Ralph, ‘You’re alive buddy,’ and then he has times where he’s like: ‘Why? I did nothing wrong. Why?’” she said.

She described Ralph as a shy person with a dry sense of humor who loves music and engineering. He is also protective of his brothers and cousins, she said.

He wants to go to Texas A&M for chemical engineering, “because they have the most competitive program” and “he likes the competition,” Spoonmore said.

Ralph’s classmate Aiden Brady, also a junior at Staley, described him as quiet in public but “very funny” among friends.

“When Ralph says anything, it has to be important,” he said. “Some even joke saying, ‘Shh, Ralph is talking.’”

Aiden, who met Ralph in middle school when they joined band together, called him a strong leader in their “band family.”

“Ralph knows so much, and when you ask him for help what he suggests always seems to be right,” he said.

Another classmate, Elianna Brannlund, described Ralph as a “very kind and caring person” and "the smartest person I know.”

Elianna recalled Ralph’s staying with her a few months ago during all-district orchestra auditions, after his own auditions ended, as she waited for her later callback time.

“Ralph stayed with me all five hours to talk about music, school and life,” she said. “Even when he had the choice to go home.”

The shooting

Just before the shooting Thursday night, Ralph rang the doorbell of the home and waited for a response. When the door opened, he was confronted by a man who said, “Don’t come back around here,” and opened fire, shooting him in the head, said Merritt, one of the family’s attorneys, citing Ralph's account to police.

Ralph fell to the ground, and the homeowner fired a second time, hitting him in the arm, Merritt said.

Ralph mustered the strength to run, stopping at three homes for help. At the third house, a person inside gave him instructions to raise his arms and lie on the ground. Ralph lost consciousness, and police were called.

The shooting cast a spotlight on Missouri’s "stand your ground" law and sparked outrage on social media. It also prompted a weekend protest and calls for the shooter's arrest.

Monday evening, two felony counts were announced against a white man in his 80s: first-degree assault and armed criminal action, Clay County Prosecuting Attorney Zachary Thompson said Monday.

A warrant was issued for Andrew Lester, who is not in custody, Thompson said, adding that he did not know where Lester was.

Police Chief Stacey Graves said at a news conference Sunday that the shooter in the residence was taken into custody and held for 24 hours, the maximum time a felony suspect can be held until charges are filed. A firearm was also taken as evidence.

Graves said the vast majority of felony suspects are released after 24 hours but are re-arrested later when enough evidence has been gathered for charges. Graves said that detectives are working “expeditiously” and that results will be sent to the Clay County prosecutor as soon as the investigation is completed.

But we don't know exactly what happened. All we have is the "narrative" of the teen's attorney - one sided, in other words. No audio, no video, no witnesses. Might be a completely different story once the homeowner's attorney tells his side of things.

What if we hear the homeowner's side of the story, and it goes like this: "Someone was knocking at the front door, so I opened the main door and saw the teen standing there through the glass outer door, acting all nervous. He had his hand in his pocket and yelled 'I got a gun old man, open up or I'll shoot!' I was in fear for my life, so I pulled my 32 from my pocket and shot back at him through the glass before he shot me. He ran away after that, so I stopped shooting since the threat was gone."

Please, what is the meaning of 85x14 ?
FBI crime stats that are hushed, 85% of the violent crime in this nation, commited by 14%. Im sure you can guess what the 14% is. It goes overlooked everywhere including here for the most part. Some will never see what’s right in front of them. The they’re the same as whites programming has been so very successful over the decades. They are not the same,
Period.

What happened to Ralph Yarl is terrible, I'm thankful he is home and recovering.

That being said, brown and black kids are not being hunted in America. Black kids are 5x and Brown kids are 3x more likely to be killed by someone who looks like them than a white person.

Of course it could. Any fair minded person who's allegiance is to TRUTH above ALL understands that. Likewise, any fair minded person sees that some of the facts on the ground, that are not in question, are building a picture that suggest this may not be the typical teenage male chimp-out prone negro with crime, prison & a dozen baby mammas in his future.

His name is RALPH
His PARENTS sent him to pick up his siblings
He has documented attendance at the MO scholar academy stint that was not made up outta thin air after the fact to pad an imaginary narrative.

Time should tell, but this is shaping up to be such a political gift to the commies that it may take a while to come out.
In the meantime there is no need to stubbornly reject the possibility it was a bad shoot just on principal.

The facts remain clear, blacks and browns are 5 times and 3 times more likely to be shot by one of their own, and 85-15 is really a real thing too. That doesn't change regardless of whether one older white man made a bad shot or not.
Not if little Ralphie was the aggressor. Keep in mind, all we're hearing is Ralphie's side of the story. The truth could be radically different from what we've heard thus far.

You can say whatever you want…but the truth is, there is a bona fide war going on in this country…

Its a violent war which has been ginned up and continues to be fueled by the Left and their associates.

The war is between POC and Regular America RA.

The POC camp knows they are at war and have acted appropriately all along - they target their enemies regardless of age, sex, or if their ‘enemy’ is a combatant or not, and they also target the infrastructure of RA…which means everyone’s.

The old, unarmed, and weaker are attacked by ambush, stealth, robbed, beaten, and often maimed and killed. But in head on confrontation, POC forces almost always break off their attack and retreat to regroup later.

The press, and most state institutions like education, law enforcement, and The US Justice dept. have blatantly aided and comforted the POC forces and demonized RA.

At the same time, they have severely persecuted the Regular American side with a two tiered justice system and selective application of the law.

The body count is high and climbing higher - there is no end in sight…but a few possibilities exist…

The battle lines aren’t as clear as one may think and the POC forces are absolutely despised by all other ethnic groups who have suffered at the hands of the POC forces…

If and when the conflict intensifies, the POC will be faced by not only a well armed, well funded Regular American force, but also Oriental/Hispanic forces that are well funded and more numerous respectively.

Or, I could be wrong…

That will prolly come out soon. And once again everyone who listened to the Meedia narrative will have fallen for it again…

"I'm wondering if there's an elephant trumpeting in the room that people aren't bothering to talk about - especially the blacks >>> is this 84 yr old white guy a "left behind" in that neighborhood - is he the only white left that changed black a couple of decades ago? - has he been the victim of constant harassment? - has he been a crime victim? - What's the current neighborhood crime rate? - Was this shot kid ACTUALLY at the wrong address and was he looking for his siblings OR is his story 100% bullshit? - was he back again intimidating & harassing this old man? >>> I don't see anything about this old guy's motive or side of things ..."

When hearing about this I was wondering the same thing.:hmm:

Dude, use your words. WTF was that? You have a seizure?

Even in Texas , you can’t shoot an attacker until they “break the plane of your walls.” It would even be a bad shoot here.
MUCH BETTER to STOP and ask ourselves this one simple question -

exactly WHAT was it that made this individual so FEARFUL that he felt he had to protect himself with that level of violence. all I'm saying in my response to this situation is that the hand-wringers are so quick to condemn the old white guy without ANY KNOWLEDGE of what ACTUALLY transpired.

generally speaking, as a populace we've allowed the media to precondition us to accept virtually ANYTHING and EVERYTHING we're told with little to no question. much current discussion exists regarding the advent of AI - thats NOT going to improve the situation. did I have a seizure - ALMOST. if you look at the situation the vast majority - if not ALL - of the initial respondents to this "situation" were among absolutely MOST VULNERABLE GROUP of individuals in this country who at at the GREATEST RISK for violence by this demographic - yet they've RUN to defend it WITH NO QUESTION and NO FORETHOUGHT - hence the term 'FEEEELZZE' - NO COMMON SENSE

high time that we as a populace realize that NOBODY who shoots a black kid - NO COP who has a deadly altercation with a black individual got out of bed that morning and said to themselves as they were getting dressed -

WOW! TODAY WOULD BE A GREAT DAY TO KILL A BLACK DUDE! THINK I'LL GO GET ME ONE FOR OVER THE MANTLE
this kind of thing happens for a reason - that reason is the REALITY of historical violence FROM that demographic. last but not least - NOBODY HERE has said it was a "good shoot" - in point of fact I said very clearly the old dude could be a lunatic. what I am so critical of is and was the SPEED at which he was condemned. we no longer take time to THINK in this country - we REACT to what they feed us. that's dangerous as hell.

There are a lot of people who think that way. There are even a few on TB.
possibly so - but why condemn the old dude before we KNOW what actually transpired here? my position is rooted in the obvious and ever growing penchant for the media to sway public opinion AWAY from actual facts. lets not loose sight of that. and lets not loose sight of the fact those who are the MOST VULNERABLE to this demographic are those who rush to defend it with virtually ZERO hesitance. NOT very promising for long term survival - either individual or as a group

There is a lot that could be discussed on this situation including the state of the neighbor, crime stats and/or general racial relations or tension along with the possible fear and/or cognitive status of an older White man in this instance.

.......but what I can tell you is that if the races were segregated none of this would ever happen. The integration experiment and the I'll buy Negro votes for the next 200 years "great society" bastard LBJ has failed the US...........time to think about other solutions than just the "we are all the same with just different paint job" rhetoric.

There is no better social study of human racial relationships of being allowed to exercise the right of association than what you see in prisons.................self segregation is the preferred method of survival in that environment. Prisons and to a lessor extent Sunday morning church services are the canaries in the coal mine of the results in racial integration experiments on society.

something not getting mentioned much - tends to support the old guy shooter >>>> this shot kid went to neighboring homes and all turned him away - the best he got was a phone call & to hold his hand high ...

What that says to me - that neighborhood is already ghetto and the blacks know better - or - it's going bad and what survivors that remain are bunkered in to live a day longer - and - there's a good possibility that this heavenly choir boy was known around that neighborhood and people knew better >>>> just because there was no gun when the FD & PD arrived - doesn't mean he doesn't carry one ....

of alllll the Mikey Browns across the country that inspired revenge rioting >>> name one that WASN'T painted as an inspiring brain surgeon and a worthy of BLM godship

Shooter's (Lester) version in this story toward the bottom (bolded).

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man is charged in the shooting of a 16-year-old Kansas City, Missouri teenager.

Clay County Prosecutor Zachary Thompson announced late Monday afternoon that Andrew D. Lester, 84, is charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. This just hours after Kansas City police submitted the case to prosecutors.

Lester is accused of shooting Ralph Yarl on Thursday night after the teen accidentally went to the wrong house to pick up his siblings.

Kansas City police said just before 10 p.m. April 13, Ralph was picking up his younger siblings at a home on N.E. 115th Terrace when he mistakenly went to a house on N.E. 115th Street.

When Ralph arrived at the home, the homeowner shot him.

“My reaction is a relief. That’s what we requested, that’s what we wanted, and that’s what is happening so we’re happy,” Ralph’s father, Paul Yarl told FOX4 Monday following the announcement of charges.

According to court records, when officers approached the home, they could see the front storm door glass shattered with Lester standing inside the home. Lester provided a written consent to search the home.

In an interview with police, Lester stated he had just laid down in bed when he heard the doorbell ring. He stated he picked up his .32 Smith and Wesson 1888 revolver before responding to answer the door.

Lester said the front door of his home consisted of an interior main door and exterior glass storm door, both of which were locked, according to court documents.

Lester stated he opened the interior door and saw a Black man pulling on the exterior storm door handle. Lester said he believed someone was attempting to break into the house and shot twice within a few seconds of opening the door, court documents say.

According to court documents, Yarl said Lester told, “Don’t come around here” following the shooting. Yarl went to multiple homes asking for help and telling people to call police, who arrived shortly after. He suffered a gunshot wound in the left forehead and right arm.

Family confirmed with FOX4 that Yarl was out of the hospital Monday.

“He’s in good spirits. He cracked a smile today,” his father Paul Yarl said. “One of his teachers from elementary school asked him for permission to give a testimony, how good of a student Ralph was. So, when Ralph saw that request from his elementary school teacher, he smiled, said, ‘Of course he can talk about me.'”

Following the charging announcement, Mayor Quinton Lucas released a statement:

“I am relieved to see this first step towards justice for Ralph Yarl with today’s felony charges. Now we must remain engaged through trial.”

VP Harris, Mahomes, celebs and more speak out on Kansas City teen shot
A warrant has been issued for Lester’s arrest; his bond has been set at $200,000.

“Man could’ve called police if he suspected something, he could’ve called 911. To shoot, that was wrong,” Paul Yarl said.

The shooting has stirred protest and outrage nationwide. Nearly 1,000 people marched to the Northland home where it happened this past weekend.

Regardless of his age he is still responsible for the bullet he shot out of his gun. How many times on this board has it been quoted; "Guns don't shoot themselves"?

Prayers of healing and strength going out for the young man and comfort and grace for his family.
Not if his brain is not all there. That’s IF. IF he has Alzheimer’s you going to prosecute? Now if he is all there then by all means prosecute.
I am simply saying at that age, it needs to be investigated and not jump to conclusions.

April 18, 2023Updated 1:29 p.m. ET
The whereabouts of Andrew D. Lester, the man charged in the shooting of Ralph Yarl, a Black teenager, in Kansas City, Mo., remained unknown to the authorities on Tuesday, a day after he was charged with assault in the first degree and armed criminal action.

Mr. Lester, 84, was not in police custody on Tuesday morning, and the police were “working to bring him into custody,” Sgt. Jacob Becchina, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department, said in an email.

“He is a wanted person with a warrant for his arrest,” he said. “We would also welcome him at any of our detention facilities, and I know the Clay County Sheriffs (jail) would as well.”

Mr. Lester, who lives in a quiet neighborhood on the northern edge of Kansas City, is charged with shooting Ralph twice on Thursday night after the teenager stood on Mr. Lester’s front porch, having arrived at the wrong address to pick up his siblings.

On Monday, the authorities submitted the case to the Clay County prosecuting attorney’s office. The prosecutor, Zachary Thompson, said “there was a racial component to the case,” but declined to elaborate.
Here’s what we know, and don’t know, about the shooting.

He was still working, still trying to figure out the problem, when we had to wrap up,” she added.”

so she nicely is saying. He wasn’t the sharpest pencil in the box.

So clearly blind, how many blacks do you see protesting or speaking out about black violent crime?? NONE that’s how many, remove your head from your ass and wake up. None of them are any good.

Its an agenda............and agenda against the police and White (aka civilization) rule of law usually for a shake down on cash for those inside and the commie influence using them as tools.........

If BLM as serious about their lives mattering ......they would be protesting and reporting what has gone on in the Congo.
Since post WW2 where over 10 million Black lives have died from the abuse tied in competition over the mining of minerals for electrical device/batteries.........

But you don't hear a peep out of it because it doesn't benefit their agenda............
