Thanks all- he is 14. At ER - just got checked in and fever went down to 101.5. That was after a 500mg of Tylenol at home. Multiple readings of 106f. We are super “crunchy” (Healthy foodies) and this is his first Tylenol. That’s how freaked I was. Getting checked out for bacterial fever. But after a half hour of after posting this he is alert and wanting Taco Bell and IKEA chicken…. This kid I tell ya. Power of prayer. Thank you.
The song Should I stay or should I go now is really starting to play in my head. It’s packed in the ER.
I know we're having it reported here too. SENC.Stay. West Nile is rampant here.
Thanks - yeah they didn't do any blood work. I think the doc felt it was reassuring that he was drinking and could eat so they didn't go that far. I'm hoping they are right! Appreciate the prayers. That's a good update.
Do you know if they drew any blood cultures? There is a 24 hour turn around on those.
Prayers are still inbound.
This^^^If they neglected to draw cultures as they drew the normal panel of bloods I'd be a bit concern-pissed.
Update - Doctor saw him, checked everything and said, "Whelp we have a whole bunch of tests like Covid, RSV, Strep etc that he can take, however, we don't really have any sort of treatment for those. If it's bacterial we can prescribe antibiotics, but I don't see anything with ears, swollen glands or a sore throat etc. Since this all happened in 24 hours he might get more symptoms as it progresses.
He said that a while back when Chicken Pox was a thing kids would come in with crazy high fevers and have that or measles." He offered the RSV and Covid tests but was almost apologetic for offering them, I'm guessing people have been pushing back? We declined just simply because the only thing they could do if it was a bad case was give monoclonal antibodies. His eyes raised at this but he didn't disagree. We would be running down to Tractor Supply picking up Kentucky Derby Ointment if you get my drift.
So far he's been fluctuating between 101.5F with tylenol and 103.5 as it wears off. Going to give him some NAC to heal his liver as we go. Greens next week.
So I guess wait and see. I'm still on edge, that was crazy fast rise. Really appreciate everyone. He's really made a huge turnaround with your faith.
I have an older son who had meningitis on a mission in Peru, this is respectfully nothing like that. That said if he starts manifesting any of the clear signs of it we will of course do our due diligence and get him tested. Thank you!Get him tested for meningitis !!! Hower you spell it, and now damnit! Blood cultures stat, as in NOW!
Good idea. There's been an outbreak of meningococcal something (maybe meningitis?) in the eastern part of Virginia in recent weeks.Get him tested for meningitis !!! Hower you spell it, and now damnit! Blood cultures stat, as in NOW!
