HD I remember not long after his wife died that there was a post he had been taking care of her and became ill and then she passed and then he passed right after that if I remember correctly.

I think you're remembering GaryOwen. Another wonderful poster who will be sorely missed. BenSunday hasn't posted since the new version of the board went live, before COVID hit. It's been a long time since we've seen him, and he was definitely one of the 'older' members and he did have heart issues that he posted about. He was in radio I think, a reporter (?). Lived in CT.

Your exactly right forgive me Ben Sunday if you ever see this!

Has anyone checked the other boards for these missing members? Like on the UB's board?

Wish there was a better way to keep track of everyone, other than the NSA.

I really miss Mole and all the other "missing persons" too. I don't post a lot but really enjoy reading what others have to say and reports of conditions and shortages in various areas. I'm 80 and basically confined to home due to mobility issues and the rampaging covid and variants. Thank God for my daughter and son-in-law who live next door and take care of things for me.

I think Old as Dirt is in her 90s now but doesn't post often, Jasmine being 80 I'd be delighted you have this forum and family next door.

I am much younger (64) for also have health and some mobility issues, and I find the forum has been a sanity saver during these nearly two years of lockdown here in Ireland.

Now I can go out some, but there are very few places to go, and with masks and hearing loss I can't understand people next to me much less six feet away.

Anyway, glad you posted and hope you post a bit more often (and yeah, I miss Mole too on and off the list).

People were posting on Mom of 23 Goats’ Facebook page for her birthday this spring, so she seems to be fine. I used to talk to her a lot back in the day but we lost touch when I had to create a new FB account. She never accepted my friend request but I’m guessing she just didn’t see it.

I didn't realize how much lip reading I do until seeing people on TV etc. with masks on and I have trouble understanding them.

That was exactly my experience, I couldn't even understand the dentist when I needed a tooth pulled last week, he finally had to take off his mask while doing my prescription (not while doing the dental work).

Now I've had some hearing loss all my life (three failed surgeries and it isn't fixed and doesn't respond well to the hearing aids) but I never realized that made me lip read a lot, until the masks.

I don't have a hearing problem, but I used to joke, even back in my twenties, I would ask people to wait until I put my glasses back on before they spoke to me as "I can't see what you're saying!"

It surprised me how much less attention it takes to listen when the eyes are doing their part of the process.

Well, it appears a number of members have gone away. We can only guess as to why. My guess is one or more of the following reasons:

1. Health issues
2. Passed on
3. Living changes, such as going nomad
4. Become more interested in other sites
5. Pi$$ed off about something, or at somebody
6. Changed work schedule
7. Decided to go Gray

We do not know for sure which one it might be, maybe someone(s) here have some other possibilities in mind ?
Curious minds wonder.

Regards, No Dandy

My friend, I’m in a very similar place myself. My great niece lives across the street from me. I couldn’t have a daughter any better me than she has been and continues to be.
We are truly blessed!

A couple of updates. Sadly, Michiana MaJo died in April. Here is her Obit:

And MichaelTeever didn't survive his pancreatitis, unfortunately. I consider his death a COVID BUREAUCRACY death- if he hadn't put off medical care until he couldn't stand it any longer, due to COVID restrictions, he probably would have survived.

LOL I use to say that too and it seemed to be true. At 74 I do have some hearing loss, had it tested a year or so ago, must have been before covid because they did little last year. Now that I don't need glasses except for reading, my hearing seems to be okay.

God is good all the time

This too shall pass.
Someone just recently commented about the wealth of experience and skills, and the general level of intelligence found on this board, and I think the average age of the members has quite a bit to do with that. Not only do older folks have more life experience, most of us also had a far different education than the young people now are getting.
