ENVR Idalia Check In Thread

day late

money? whats that?
For those of us in the way. I'm in Gainesville. Idalia is forecast to hit just north of Cedar Key. That is southwest of me by about 50 miles. Right now, 11:29 P.M. 08/28/23 winds are light, but there has been an almost non-stop thunderstorm going on south of me for nearly an hour.

We're in Dunnellon and that thunderstorm was almost on top of us. No damage that I know of but the thunder & lightening lasted from about 12 pm to 1 am or later. The whole house shook from some of it. As hot as it's been we were due for it. No idea if it was connected to Idalia or not. Probably way too early for that.

Believe it or not, right around midnight some of those lightning strikes and thunder boomers, shook our house.

I am heading from the east coast today and will get to our BOL late afternoon to make sure all is secure. Kids will ride out the storm in Tampa to be near my parents. We will ride it out at BOL WHICH may get it much worse if it remains on its current track.

Will let you know if we get “stuck.” Lol

We going to ride it out here. Sounds like the worst we'll see is maybe 30 mph breezes.
About 34 years ago we rode out Hurricane Hugo in Florence, SC. Not something I want to do again!

I was 3 years old when Hazel hit SC with 150+ sustained winds. While Horry County wasn't much developed at that time, it pretty much took the Myrtle Beach area off the map. From what I've heard from friends and family still there, they probably need to flush it again.

I'll pray for your safety. I have family in Lake Butler and in Maitland, so I am keeping an eye on this. Jim Cantore supposedly is on the way.

RAGNAROC stay safe and keep in touch.

For your reference, the Catastrophe Boss was in the War Room yesterday, making sure they were prepped. RELIC was prepping internal supplies and pre-inventorying external supplies.

Just finished boarding up the windows. I had the plywood for months but kept putting it off so I had to get it all done this morning. Just as finished it started to pour.

I still have to go into work which leaves my son here by himself. I get off at 2300 hours, right when the storm will be parallel with St. Pete. I hope I can make it home because I'm not thrilled with him being alone.

They usually send out e-mails keeping the employees posted and tell people to do what you have to do to keep your family safe. But, we have a new manager and he hasn't said diddly-squat about anything.

Well... Gotta head in to work. I'll check in from there.

Sister in law 88 year old in Venice. The storm surge is expected to be about 5 - 7 feet the highest elevation down there is about 6 feet above sea level. If she needs to leave she's ready to head North or East by car. I am sure everything will work out, and No I'm not going down there unless she calls for help Post Storm.

I went to Monticello for work yesterday, I'm staying in my travel trailer during the week and home to Micanopy on weekends... Only one days work this week, but I closed the slide-outs and disconnected the water, electric, and gas. Hopefully it will be there when I go back for work on next Tuesday... I don't think GNV area will have all that much... But Jim Cantorre was sighted at the GNV airport heading to Cedar Key... he shows up for all the hurricances...

Here at the BOL and still in the path. Everything is locked down and tied down or in the barn. Good thing we have groceries with us because when we came through Live Oak at 4-ish Wallyworld was already locked down tight. LOL I have never, ever seen that. So freaky, especially considering nothing else was closed ... Lowe's, Publix, Dollar Tree, Tractor Supply, Busy Bee gas station, etc etc

Have no idea about Lake City which is to the east about 40 minutes or so. We did go through there this time as we were coming from the east coast along I10 instead of I75 out of the south. Traffic was normal, even through the Jacksonville bypasses. Gas stations weren't crazy.

My son and daughter back in Tampa said every place they stopped yesterday was already out of water. I have water stocked but I told her to get a five-gallon bucket of water out of the pool just in case they lose power which means no water because the house is on a well so that will be for the bathrooms.

My parents are set. My older son is on the hurricane lock down team at his hospital so he is out of pocket for the duration. Depending on weather we will head back to Tampa tomorrow, Thursday at the latest. It will also depend on if there are any emergencies at the rentals.

Ain't life fun? ROFL!!
