“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” ~Colossians 3:17

I had made a turkey a couple of weeks ago, just for the heck of it, and my hubby and I agreed that we’re all turkey'd out. So instead I’ve got a crockpot full of oxtails! It’s our favorite meat. Funny... oxtails used to be a scrap meat that you could get cheap, and most people made soup out of them. But cooking shows in the last decade or so showcased the rich flavor and appeal of oxtails, and now they run about $8-10 a pound in stores. We managed to score some really cheap from our local farmer that we buy our beef from. Our favorite way to cook them is very simple... slow cook them in a crock pot with about 1/3 cup of beef broth, salt, and pepper for about 8 hours.

We’re also having mashed potatoes with oxtail gravy, green bean casserole, fresh baked rolls, salad, and pecan pie.

What’s on your menu? Any special family or favorite holiday recipes you’d like to share?

Owner is having Turkey with all the trimmings. His family is here and they're all inside.

We had snow on the roads two days ago and the sleigh might have been used - but now the roads are clear and Owner says its too cold and blustery for a wagon ride.

Owner dropped a coffee off for me earlier - not Duncan donuts french vanilla - but it did have double cream & sugar and presented to me in a DD paper cup with snaplid opened. How does he get those cups?

Owner has promised me a treat later perhaps as they eat their meal? We'll see...

He may forget.

Am having split pea soup later today. Some family might have a Thanksgiving dinner type get-together this weekend.

Turkey is about the only meat I can eat any more, so the traditional meal really isn't as special as it used to be for me.

Ugh, it’s cold here, too! Yesterday's high was 18 degrees, and today a high of 23. We’ve gone through a half face-cord of wood already. Tomorrow (thankfully) is supposed to be 40. The cold spell is done, I hope. Mid 30s for highs next week and lots of snow. A good week for many leftovers!

Happy Thanksgiving. It's snowing as I type. We are going to a sons and daughter in laws down in the valley and others of the family will be there. We provided the turkey but aren't supposed to cook anything to free us up for the first time in that department. Dh is hoping they will have the things he likes lol. When he took the turkey to them the dil said she was making real reg. potatoes just for him. (He is hoping for a chocolate cream pie as well.) I don;t know how that is going to work as they have been moving into a new place the last day and a half.

Happy Thanksgiving! Your comment brings back a long forgotten Thanksgiving memory. Back in my 20s there used to be a restaurant with an incredible bakery... for the life of me I can’t remember what it’s called. (Gotta love getting old!) But one year I bought a chocolate cream pie bring to the family Thanksgiving dinner, and it was one of the best pies I’d ever eaten. I need to try to make one. Soon.

I have no idea what I'm having. :shr:

Today I feel like Paul…headed into a pagan temple. My neighbor (last one left of her family) asked me if I would like to go with her to her friend Jonathan's for Thanksgiving. Jonathan used to live in New York, was a renown chef who loves to collect antiques and is GAY. His relationship went awry and moved back to his family’s home in central, IL. He has a new lover – Claudio. So we will be dining with Jonathan and Claudio, as well as Claudio's brother, his wife and their 4 children tonight. My neighbor said he isn’t fixing a turkey (Good!) but that it will be something *she-she-poo-poo* and “fabulous” although she herself doesn’t know what it will be.

So tonight should be an adventure. If we go around the table stating what we’re grateful for, it’ll be interesting to see their reactions as I put Christ – Who never leaves me – at the top of my list. (The first time I venture out on a holiday, 5 years after my husband’s death, and I’m headed into a seedy lion’s den with supposedly excellent food and wonderful antiques. LOL…figures!)

Thank you so much Publix.
12 lb turkey - needs to be heated for 2 hrs.
Dressing - not going to "stuff" the turkey.
gravy - and plenty of it.
cranberry sauce (Oceanspray jellied - found out that I LOVE it more than the "other" types)
greenbean casserole - ubiquitous - can't be Thanksgiving without it.
sweet potato casserole.
shoe peg corn casserole
yellow squash casserole
Brussels sprouts (cooked way beyond necessary)
deviled eggs
whole pickled beets
pineapple upside down cake
coconut cream pie
pumpkin pie
black cherry jello (real black cherries and walnuts added)
Thanksgiving is a wonderful time for memories and for using the old dishes and silverware that make the entire day one filled with emotional reveries and stories. A lot of food that WILL last for a long, long time.

I made pecan and pumpkin pie last night, but taking them over to friends' house for dinner today, It's a highly Finn household, (he's all Finn and she's half Finn/half Spanish - beautiful WWII story with her dad and mom, haha!) and was yakking with her yesterday about her Finnish grandma's rutabaga holiday dish. Mashed rutabaga, loads of butter, eggs, and heavy cream, baked in the oven. Sounded heavenly and I need that recipe. Otherwise, today at their place, pretty traditional fare. Not sure if sauna will be going or not...;)

I also have a turkey thawed in my fridge that I will cook here, either tomorrow or Saturday. Will have the usual...turkey, taters, dressing, gravy, squash, green bean hot dish, and pumpkin pie. Must have leftovers in the house...it's traditional. Given the family I grew up in (my Grandma was a commercial turkey farmer) turkey is a staple.

Oh wow... I LOVE tandoori chicken! What a delciisous addition to a traditional Thanksgiving menu. And funny... I made a custard pie a few days ago. Let’s just say it didn’t make it to today. We ate it all in two days!

Wow, prayers for you! It’s a fine line, isn’t it? Most of my immediate family are Muslims... although “cafeteria style” second generation, who basically just practiced their religion by fasting and not eating pork. I had a falling out with several of my siblings a couple of years ago (not religion related) and have really struggled with their shallow, narrow minded thinking. I’m reminded of Jesus, who ate with the prostitutes and tax collectors, because “it’s the sick who need healing, not the well.” But the reality is, you can only help those who want to be well. So I’ve made the decision to just cut them off. They’re too toxic, and live too far from our Christian beliefs. Every encounter with them is filled with drama and fighting. I finally just gave it to God, and asks Him to take care of it for me. In many ways it’s so much easier to be a light and Christian ambassador to complete strangers, rather than family.

It sounds like it will be a big day for you. I’m happy to hear you have somewhere to be filled with good food and companionship. My only advice is to remain true to your faith and convictions, and disengage if/when discussions turn to topics of religion, politics, and gay rights. Pray for them instead, and speak confidently when you give thanks to Christ. I hope it all goes well!!

I give up.
It's just me and my son today. No friends or family left at this point, but it's OK judging from some of what I am reading. I don't know what I'll make yet, but it won't be turkey, I never make that. I think I will make a triple chocolate cake with vanilla frosting in a while though. Your all menus sound lovely, and BE you just go and enjoy that chef food, I'm sure it will be fabulous.

:)

It’s just my husband and me as well. Sometimes, it’s just as nice as a big boisterous holiday feast.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. It is just DW (who is still on house arrest after surgery) one grand daughter (who is being G-ma's slave), and myself so we are having spaghetti. It is fast simple and not much clean up. Think we are supposed to get together with eldest daughter this weekend.

Down with a blazing headache.
Might have some celery with cream cheese later, if I'm feeling better.

:(

I hope you feel better! Do you get headaches often? My hubby has chronic migraines that he would get several times a week. They were debilitating until he started taking Kratom. He also gets Botox shots in his head. The two have finally given him relief, so that his headaches now are quite manageable, and times almost non-existent. Despite several tests, we have no understanding of the cause, but suspect it’s arthritis in his neck.

You know, I have never had prime rib for a holiday, but would love to try it for Christmas! Do you have a tried and true recipe you could share? I haven’t the faintest clue how to go about making it.

Well first you have to be really rich to buy it as you will spend about one hundred dollars for a big chunk.

Sure!!

2 tablespoons black pepper, 2 tablespoons kosher salt, 2 tablespoons packed light brown sugar, 1 tablespoon dried oregano and 1 teaspoon smoked or sweet paprika

Preheat your oven to 450 degrees for at least 30 minutes while the prime rib comes to room temperature.
Place the roast in a high-sided roasting pan bone-side down. The bones create a natural roasting rack for the meat, so don't worry if you don't have one.
Cook the roast for 15 minutes, then reduce the oven temperature to 325 degrees. Continue to cook the roast until your meat thermometer reads 120 degrees. Estimate about 15 minutes of cooking time per pound of prime rib.
Once the thermometer hits its target temperature, remove the roast from the oven and let it rest for 20 minutes. The roast will continue to cook as the juices inside settle, raising the internal temperature to 130 degrees for a perfect medium-rare prime rib.

Happy Thanksgiving 2018. This makes 67 Thanksgivings for me.

The DW is getting ready to prepare our Thanksgiving meal where we will have oven roasted breast turkey put into cornbread dressing.... The legs, wings and thighs are set aside to eat later.... There will also be giblet gravy, baked beans, salad, fried red potatoes, cranberry sauce, homemade pecan pie from my grandmother's recipe and pumpkin pie.... Left overs will be eaten for days....

I am thankful for America, President Trump, our military, TB2K, and our family and friends.

May God continue to bless us, America, President Trump, our military, TB2K, and our family and friends and keep us free.

Just the two of us - had a turkey and ham dinner yesterday with family. I had a bad vertigo attack last night and was as sick as you can get for a few hours and still don't feel too good; but I plan to fix a turkey breast, mashed potatoes, green beans, dressing, gravy, bread, sweet potato casserole, deviled eggs, cranberry sauce and pecan pie.

Saved, to glorify God.
Our church had a big Thanksgiving feast last sunday, that was my Holiday dinner.
As a prepper, “my cup overfloweth with food.
Living alone now is the only practical limiting factor in dining choices.
Today, I think I will do something with the roast chicken I bought a couple three days ago. Hot or cold chicken sandwiches on toast sound good to me.
I plan to contemplate and enumerate my many blessings, Thanking God for each.

I decided to decline an invitation to spend the day with “rabid unbelievers” (self described), even if they are family, as I was invited to come but would not be allowed to say grace or give thanks to God or speak about God, even though I was warned that one of them won’t shut up about her unbelief and will bring God up to bait me. I don’t need that stress.
