Boston mayor bans 'fossil fuels' in new city-owned buildings to advance 'racial and economic justice'

Andrew Chapados

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu announced that she has banned "fossil fuels" in new city-owned buildings after teaming up with the city's director of the Green New Deal.
The executive order was announced in a press release and will eliminate "the Use of Fossil Fuels in New Construction and Major Renovations of City Buildings."
The goal is "accelerating climate action by requiring that all new municipal buildings and major renovations operate without fossil fuels." The press release also claimed the move would reduce "emissions from Boston’s building sector while creating high-quality jobs, improving public health and quality of life, and advancing racial and economic justice."
All new buildings in the city must be planned, designed, and constructed using non-combustion for cooking (stoves/ovens), HVAC, and hot water apparatuses.

The mayor claimed that recent weather means that there isn't much time to make quick political changes.
“Week after week, we see the signs of extreme heat, storms, and flooding that remind us of a closing window to take climate action,” said Wu. “The benefits of embracing fossil fuel-free infrastructure in our City hold no boundary across industries and communities, and Boston will continue using every possible tool to build the green, clean, healthy, and prosperous future our city deserves.”
The ordinance also sets emission standards for what are categorized as "large existing buildings," which also require all covered and municipal buildings to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
The announcement boasted work by Oliver Sellers-Garcia, who is the city's first "Green New Deal director," a role the city created to make sure it was aligning with a radical climate agenda first promoted by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in 2019.
The role officially "works across the City to advance climate action through strategies that address social, racial, and economic inequality."

“As part of the Green New Deal for Boston, we are taking an all-of-government approach, finding ways for our Cabinets and departments to play a role in climate action,” said Sellers-Garcia. “This Executive Order directs and empowers the Operations Cabinet and facilities managers across the City to lead the decarbonization of our building portfolio."
Sellers-Garcia, whose government page lists his preferred pronouns as "he/him/his," also assured citizens that the order will also apply to major renovations, because "the most sustainable way to make a green building is not to start from scratch.”
The mayor's office declared that any new capital investments must contribute to "the decarbonization of Boston’s building sector."

Ok, how about demanding that all materials used to build new gov't buildings must have been produced using non-fossil fuels as well. That way nothing will be built since I'm pretty sure there aren't many materials produced solely by renewable energy sources. The new government buildings can be solar powered yurts! LOL!

So, how are they supposed to heat them? Unicorn farts?

A big solar farm near here is in the news because it's been on fire for 3 days... so far. "Green" technology is nowhere near ready for prime time, much less to be scaled up to the level they are demanding.

Interesting. So once fossil fuels have been totally banned, the only buildings we will be able to build will be mud huts . Hmmm. Where have I seen those before?
IIRC, someone once said: The average American doesn't deserve anything better than the average person in Africa.
This might be paraphrased slightly. But I've never forgotten it.

Just when you think stupid has towered to new heights, some communist idiot steps up and raises the bar. Sadly our society applauds this ignorance.

I'm curious to see how these "green" buildings handle all the snow and cold Boston gets in the course of a winter. Even during summer that place can be a bit chilly.

o i dont know bout that, they plan to take it from us ALL, and herd us ALL into those 15 minute cities where we freeze and burn by turns, while dining in the dark on insect parts and lab grown mystery "meats".
They can try - time will tell!

In all seriousness, don't let your guards down, even if you "think" you live in a solidly red area. They're doing an incredible job infiltrating the colleges and committees and boards and making insidious changes incrementally.

We've fought em back a half dozen times, and on a variety of issues, and I must say it is absolutely exhausting, and even those battles we win have been taken up later and refought.

Like roaches, they've an unexhaustible supply of people and a single focus.

Oh you are right on that! I live in a predominately red county and saw a post on FB about a resident out here was told by code enforcement to get rid of her chickens!! According to their rule book me, with my 4 acres, surrounded by over 250 acres of woods, am only allowed 4 hens and no rooster! Come and get em.

It's infuriating and stupid how they think they can justify literally anything by using the right lingo.

"Boston Mayor announces return of 'prima nocta' laws to advance racial and economic justice."

"Boston Mayor announces their elevation to Supreme Generallissimo Dictatorshipness, Founding Father of Her City, in a move lauded as an advancement of racial and economic justice."

"Boston Mayor bans words beginning with 't', wins Nobel Prize in field of Advancing Racial and Economic Justice".

Don’t forget the powered construction equipment.

It's scary to see that not only are all those dystopian power grabs and intended futures actually unfolding before us- they're a lot closer than we, or at least, I, ever expected them to get.

I think our lawful recourses continue to be to keep an eagle eye on our local boards and committees, as we've suggested, but to go a step further and organize groups who can be those squeeky wheels that keep an eye on everyone and sound the alarm and mount the push back every.single.time. the other side even begins to step out of their constitutional constraints. Even better to set about being sure every.single.person elected is one who knows and is in compliance with the constitutional limits of their positions and is committed to staying with in them.
A lot of hard, thankless work, but it is our turn to become the bureaucratic clogs that hinder change from occurring.

Where will they get electricity? 60% of U.S. electricity is produced using 'fossil fuels'.

Furthermore, 67% of the electricity in Massachusetts is produced using natural gas.

Maybe everyone will just have to take the steps.

It would only be right if all power producers just shut off all energy going into the city of Boston, you know in support of his arsine beliefs, let the voters deal with what they voted for.

I guess they will need to shut off the electricity due to the fact that most electricity is produced using fossil fuels.

Oh yeah, definitely... for "racial equity" after all. WTH does "racial equity" mean anyway? Does it mean parity with and in solidarity with poor sub-Saharan Africans who lack energy sources or what??? Is bringing the USA DOWN to the level of the worst off global POCs somehow make those POC's lives any better??? Seriously, just what does destroying lives here have to do with some sort of "equity" for any race???

OK His is a descriptive term and I was Wrong with the use of that word Thanks to spell check and me being lazy for not checking.
BUT you are wrong as well.

Arsine - Wikipedia

Arsine (IUPAC name: arsane) is an inorganic compound with the formula As H 3. This flammable, pyrophoric, and highly toxic pnictogen hydride gas is one of the simplest compounds of arsenic. Despite its lethality, it finds some applications in the semiconductor industry and for the synthesis of organoarsenic compounds.

Thanks for noticing though.
