TOPICS FOR THIRD PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE ANNOUNCED BY MODERATOR

Bob Schieffer, moderator of the third 2012 presidential debate, has selected the topics for that debate, which is on foreign policy. Mr. Schieffer stated:

Subject to possible changes because of news developments, here are the topics for the October 22 debate, not necessarily to be brought up in this order:

* America’s role in the world
* Our longest war – Afghanistan and Pakistan
* Red Lines – Israel and Iran
* The Changing Middle East and the New Face of Terrorism – I
* The Changing Middle East and the New Face of Terrorism – II
* The Rise of China and Tomorrow’s World

The debate will be held on Monday, October 22 at Lynn University in Boca Raton, FL. The format calls for six 15-minute time segments, each of which will focus on one of the topics listed above. The moderator will open each segment with a question. Each candidate will have two minutes to respond. Following the candidates’ responses, the moderator will use the balance of the 15-minute segment to facilitate a discussion on the topic. All debates start at 9:00 p.m. ET and run for 90 minutes.

Foreign policy has re-emerged as one of the dominant issues in the 2012 campaign following the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, and this debate could well prove the most important of the three.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/media/2012/10/foreign-policy-debate-topics-138341.html

Will this be another moderator-controlled event? Which version of Benghazi will be displayed - a movie? organized terrorist attack? Or something in-between to cover those "taking responsibility"? Will it be the fault of State Department? The Pentagon? The intel community? The WH? Bush I, II, or future generations? Will they mention Israel? Iran? Afghanistan? North Korea? China? Russia? Putin? Chavez? Big Bird? Will Bob Schieffer change the subject?

Last night Drudge covered it without words - see: http://www.drudgereport.com/

Regardless of the questions actually asked - expect MUCH histrionics from the incumbent - along with bravado, egotism, arrogance and outright LIES.

The Repub. will keep his cool but his opponent will repeatedly try to get him to "lose it" - and waste his response time - to no avail.

It might be nice for the country to find out exactly what was meant by the message to Putin from 'O about "more flexibility" on disarmament talks.

Manchurian Candidate on display.

I except more of the same. We already know what Romaba will say and what O will say. I won't watch this one. Only watched the last one and skipped the first one to watch 2016 instead.

The only thing that counts now is Nov 6 and the aftermath.

My money is still on O winning. And WHEN that happens we'll firewall our preparation speed and hope that the House stays Rep'b and it buys use enough time to get through the end of summer.

Didn't watch the first two so NO, won't watch this one but probably watch the analysis afterward and browse the active thread here. May watch the football game although not a fan of either team.

Irrelevant
I can't stand listening to Zero hissing while he speaks, so I just watch the debate on mute and read the live threads about it. That way I can always turn the sound back on and rewind the Tivo and watch it if there's something I want to actually hear.

i expect more of the same, and I expect Bob Schieffer to be a liberal buttwipe somewhere in between the behavior of Lherer and Fatazz Crowley.

As with the first two, the moderator will be bias towards Obama, that is a given. Obama will do the same as the first two debates, will go with the "he is a Liar and try the character assassination bit" He will also try "I got Bin Laden" Will try to side step Libya with "it is an ongoing investigation" crap and try to lie his way out of that one. See the pattern here? it is Lies lies and more lies.
His foreign policy is one of blame somebody, bow down, or screw it up. The questions that needs to be asked is, 1) Libya, who?, what?, when?, why? 2)what he meant when he was caught with the open mike with the Russians. 3)What kind of deal he cut with the Iranians in secret, 4)how would it be enforced and verified

(Excerpts from a very lengthy article)

Foreign policy Obama's 'sweet spot' or vulnerability?

. . . Monday night, as commander in chief, Obama goes toe-to-toe in the third and final debate with Republican challenger Mitt Romney, and takes the stage as the supposed pro -- or as Romney surrogate John Sununu put it, Obama "thinks this is his sweet spot." But a close look at Obama's four years of setting and managing America's foreign policy leaves much to interpretation -- and even more unfulfilled. Usama bin Laden is dead, and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are drawing to a close, but the administration has not struck a Middle East peace plan, has not yet broken Iran's nuclear determination with sanctions, and has been challenged on its claims that Al Qaeda is "on the run."

Violence in Iraq has also flared since the U.S. military withdrawal. The Guantanamo Bay prison camp is still up and running despite Obama's inaugural pledge to close it. And Russia once again has moved center stage under Vladimir Putin to more of an adversarial threat than potential partner for peace. The terror attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya is the latest incident to raise questions about the administration's foreign policy. And Romney on Monday night is sure to go after those challenges -- hard -- as he looks to undercut Obama's presidential bona fides going into the final two weeks before Election Day. . .

. . . The most prominent and controversial item on the president's checklist of accomplishments these days is his claim that Al Qaeda is "on the path to defeat." The president reiterated this claim, coupled with the reminder that Usama bin Laden is dead, in his nomination address in Charlotte, N.C., last month. But recent turmoil including the terror attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi has brought the assertion into question. . . . . . . Critics of the Obama foreign policy, though, point to rising Al Qaeda influence in areas outside those two countries -- like the Arabian Peninsula and North Africa. And in Iraq, the Associated Press reported this month that the Al Qaeda contingent has more than doubled in a year -- from 1,000 to 2,500 fighters. The president has also faced scrutiny for his handling of diplomacy with Iran over its nuclear program, with Romney claiming the administration has not been tough enough on the regime. . . . . . . Another unfulfilled agenda item Romney could seize on Monday is the Middle East peace process. In September 2010, Obama brought Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Washington to resume direct talks in pursuit of a two-state solution. But the process has sputtered since then. . . .

. . . Finally, the Arab Spring and its repercussions are sure to factor broadly into Monday's debate. The Obama administration took strikingly different actions in response to uprisings in each of those countries. The administration abandoned Hosni Mubarak in Egypt, but did not take any military action to help overthrow him. By contrast, the administration and its NATO allies effectively joined the fight -- with air power -- to overthrow Libyan dictator Muammar Qaddafi. Yet in Syria, where the bloodshed has continued unabated for a year and a half, the U.S. has not gotten involved militarily. . . .

. . . Democratic strategist Mary Anne Marsh said Obama will stress "peace and prosperity" in Boca Raton Monday night, and will give voters a reason to send him into a second term.

For some reason I think like Dennis, no holds barred this time. We just might see the other side of Romney come out.

Shouldn't an endorsement from these guys (Chavez, Castro, Putin: Four more years!) be an automatic disqualification for any candidate.

These guys want to see our country collapse and fail as does Bam Bam, their endorsement should starting waking some people up.

Chavez, Castro, Putin: Four more years!

The latest [dictator] to publicly announce his support for the commander-in-chief’s reelection bid was Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez, who this week assured he’d vote for Obama if he were from the United States. The America-bashing strongman made the announcement on state-owned television, saying “Obama is a good guy” and that if Obama was from Caracas, he’d surely return the favor by voting for Chavez.

Earlier in the year the government-official daughter of Cuban military dictator Raul Castro proclaimed her country’s support for Obama during a visit to the U.S. “I believe that Obama needs another opportunity and he needs greater support to move forward with his projects and with his ideas, which I believe come from the bottom of his heart,” Mariela Castro said during a cable news interview. ...

That brings us to Russia’s Vladimir Putin, who has eliminated most elections in his country, monopolized all major media and destroyed the political party system. ... In a letter to a major newspaper, the president of a group dedicated to expanding freedom around the world points out that under Putin there has been an “across-the-board crackdown on civil society.” The piece goes on to ask: “Will Obama stand up against Putin’s abuses?” Unlikely, now that the Russian dictator has extended his endorsement.

Romney can seal the deal with one question. "President Obama, why have you not made a trip to our main ally in the Middle East, Israel, while you have visited multiple Muslim countrys. Game Over.

OR Why don't you believe in American Exceptionalism?

Why do you bow and genuflect to foreign leaders?

Why do you believe you can do no wrong, when you do so much wrong?

I expect smoke and mirrors, nothing more. When it is over, the liberal media will say Obama won, Fox will say Romney won, and Obama will complain about something. There will be days of rehashing and polls. In the end, it won't matter because the winner has already been chosen by TPTB.

Oh that would be easy for him . . . "We've never been closer to our ally Israel" - but we need to move closer to our Arab Brethren and that's what I've achieved by my diplomatic brilliance.'' I did win the Nobel Peace Prize, you will recall?

Libya question first - what happened, what caused it, was it a policy failure, was there an attempt to mislead the American people?

R: obviously an area of great concern, hope with Arab Spring - instead we've seen disturbing events. Recounting events, can't kill our way out of this mess . . .

O: ended wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, al queda on the run, rebuilding alliances, regarding Libya - I IMMEDIATELY made arrangements to secure and go after . . and that's exactly what we're going to do (when?)

Anyone notice O's mouth twitching? Camera quickly switched to Romney, who is now expanding on what to do (specifics).

Bob is playing to the camera a lot.

1st question - 2 segments

1) Libya - What happened, what caused it, was it spontaneous, was it a policy failure.

R says it was an unraveling of O's foreign policy. 30K civilians killed in Syria. Attack in Libya by terrorists. Al Qaida on the rise. A Dramatic reversal in the region. Iran 4 years closer to a nuclear weapon. We can't kill our way out of this mess. We are going to have to reject this violent extremism that represents an enormous threat to the world.

O - My first job is to keep the American people safe and that is what we have done - Like those in Libya and the fact that more people have died in Afghanistan than before your administration. He says he did everything to secure those in harms way - Not what I heard. We are going to go after those responsible

R We don't want another Iraq or Afghanistan. How do we help the muslim world. We should give them more economic development -

I don't think so, let's take all our money away and let them hate us for free.

O is not recognizing that Russia is still our enemy.

O says you haven't been in a position to make policy but everytime you offered an opinion you have been wrong.

O is going after R about flip flopping calling R wrong, reckless and all over the map.
