I’d rather go to Meijer to be honest , they always have more stock these days. And kite selections!
But they’re a little hard to deal with as far as parking goes, wow, it’s crazy over there!

Went to service my Alb((((son store today. I deal in the non-food general mdse items. Only 30% of my last three orders have shown up. The dept manager for the gen mdse was struggling to find things to do and worried they are going to cut her hours. .there just isn't anything for her to stock.

i-5 Freeway is wide open, no weather delays. The back room is really really bare, worse than the beginning of c19.

GM manager had real concern/bordering on fear I her eyes if hours are cut.

southern oregan hasn't had much trouble with shortages except for Ramen noodles since last year. Pictures of the back room

I went to Big Lots for our spring water. It was a dollar a gallon like 2 weeks ago, today $1.29. That's 29% increase in two weeks. I had a ten dollar off $40 coupon so I got some nuts and soups also.

Went to Aldi's and it was bare in the dairy area, almost no eggs. No chicken to speak of.
They are doing that with Crystal Geyser here in the desert too. One store still had for 99 last week. Haven't checked lately.

My great niece did a delivery order from Acme for herself and for me yesterday and it came this afternoon.
I received half my order. I was missing 7 Healthy Choice Cafe Steamer dinners, chip dip, and one other item. It was about the same for my niece’s order.
I don’t cook any more, as I can’t reach the knobs of the stove safely on my scooter, so I use the toaster oven and microwave. I buy easily to prepare meals that are reasonably healthy and add salad, etc.

Thankfully, the things I needed most did come. We’re in N. E. Ohio.

I just placed a pick up order for Sams. On my list of commonly purchased foods/items at least 60% of it was out of stock online and in store. Eggs, potatoes, fresh produce, spices, paper products, ect. Even during lock down I never saw this many items out of stock. We are in Virginia, but were not impacted by last week's snow.

A friend of mine down in San Antonio area just posted photos and an “amazed /shocked” Facebook post.
I love her but she’s a little bit in the “wealthy protected type “ scenario , lives out on a private ranch ...so reality can be...daunting...to her.
What she posted looks BAD, empty cases and shelves ad far ax you can see,

She said the produce was wilted, half spoiled, even what WAS there to buy was terrible.
One single rack of ribs was 35-40$.
One rack.
She’s flipping out, but actually knowing her I’m a little surprised, as she used to be so “dialed in” to these things!

We live in SW MO and do a lot of driving around. We have noticed almost no fields of wheat coming up. Are farmers not planting wheat this year? The only wheat fields we've seen are in the state and national parks for wildlife. Does this mean a bread shortage for us and the world next summer?

What are the rest of you noticing???

I noticed empty spaces and some whole shelves empty along with refrigerated and frozen cases either empty or very little product. This was in the Bossier City area of Louisiana.

We were in a WM market store, I was looking for raw frozen shrimp and found a few bags that had gone up a good $2 from a couple of weeks ago, but at a different WM in a different town.

I did manage to get what I was looking for but not all that much and my bill was almost $60. I'm glad I stocked up the last couple of years.

I did go down the cat food isle and there was cat food, no clue about brands. When I had cats I fed them the cheapest I could find, same with dog food. My dog would rather have something else besides O'Roy, but she eats it, especially if we dump food scraps on top of it. I do have to admit that the cat box smelled worse with the cheap stuff.

I'm north of Springfield about 75 miles and we have wheat planted here. The farmers plant wheat after the soybeans are combined in the fall.

Not food, but I can't find the old "nonfood" shortage thread.

I've been stocking up on arts and craft supplies, including lots of paper, paints, crayons and markers for the girls, as well as some better stuff for me, including acrylic paints snd the tools to experiment with pouring techniques. I know prices are going to continue to climb, and we don't really need more food, since we grow nearly everything.

But wow! I bought a set of metallic markers... 24 for $5.89. One week later they were selling for $12.89!

That's one thing I insist goes with me in the Jeep. I don't have a lot but go have several pads of drawing and watercolor paper, paints, pencils, markers, etc. Even my grown up coloring books will come with me. I do have some ceramic Christmas ornaments and acrylic paints. I'll talk to DD about that. Everything has to fit in or on the Jeep. The other stuff is in a flat artist portfolio type canvas case so can slide on top of stuff. I may have to ship a couple things but keeping that to 1 or 2 boxes only IF needed.

greysage - you've asked a question long in my mind. I personally choose not to have pets because I cannot afford proper vet care for them.

This is why I have only one cat. I need the companionship. In a pinch, she can eat what I eat, but I've got a pantry shelf filled with her supplies. Feed them well and they generally won't need the vet, beyond yearly rabies shots.

Mid South. So I went to WM this AM...
When I tried to go down the cat food aisle, an elderly man had blocked the entire aisle with his cart. I scanned and saw that they only had 1 bag of my guy's brand of dry food left, so I squeezed past him and got it. He started to say something to me, but the look on my face must have stopped him. I far surpassed my tolerance for BS last week. I figured that I'd go grab my cleaning supplies a couple of aisles over and come back and get canned, and hopefully he would be gone.
So I grab my cleaning stuff and come back and this couple sees that I'm turning in the cat food aisle and the man cuts me off with their cart, turns it cross ways across the aisle, and started throwing canned food in it. They had like 100 cans in 5 seconds, he was buying the big multi-packs and she started dumping in single cans. I thought, "Geez, maybe I am going to get in a fist fight in the cat food aisle." I looked really fast but they didn't have any of the flavors that my cats will eat. When I left, they were still stacking food in the cart....
The store had no Nido. None of the Compleats that I eat. Only breaded chicken breasts, I bought them anyway.
It looked like they took out an entire aisle or more, they had moved things around and I had to hunt to find some items.
One of my friends in Mississippi said that his WM yesterday had NO cereal at all. Not one box...

I've been posting reports from Market to Market (PBS) here for months now, go over to their website and read about wheat production. Acres planted is actually up, the weather however is playing hell with the wheat crops.

Still A Geology Fanatic
Southern Oregon--
Kroger shelves are often lacking lately--but they've been that way for awhile--even before the Corona crap.
Cat food-- chicken flavor, my cats favorite is in a shortage.
Everything and I mean everything is fully stocked at Safeway, Albertsons and Food 4 Less.
Food 4 Less went the extra mile and found or brought in Sysco and other institutional brands to keep the shelves full at the early part of the crapdemic--they still carry a selection of all of it.
Keebler products were missing the other day--go figure--everything else was there.
A package of chicken wings was $20 at Food 4 Less the other day. Sheesh rib eye steaks were cheaper.
No clue about walmart--I dont go there.
Chicken may have some issues in their breed lines. Rumor has it that some dimwit tried some 'better' crosses in their meat lines and the roosters have a higher infertility.
Have not been able to verify that for sure yet but that may explain the chronic chicken shortages and high prices. There are no bird flus or anything currently.

On The Level
Went grocery shopping late this morning at Hannafords; south-central northwest Vermont.

It was busy and crowded for almost noon on a weekday. Wasn’t packed but I don’t think I’ve been in this crowded of a store in a couple years.

Everyone was masked except one veteran looking man. Younger, probably late 30’s.

Kind of embarrassed me because I chose a mask this time. Got enough stress now and didn’t need any extra grief. Just wanted to get errands and stops done asap.

No fresh broccoli crowns in the bag. Not a lot of pre-bagged produce. There was lettuces and spinach but not a lot of it.

The regular fresh broccoli bunches were plentiful and in good shape. Bought a few of those. Got yellow onions, celery, green peppers. Found everything I wanted in produce.

Canned black beans were almost cleaned out for regular flavor. They didn’t have the premium store brand except for spicy flavor.

Store brand basic low sodium were available.

Bought three of the Bushes brand for a little more.

Don’t know what is up with pasta sauce but that stuff is expensive now. Some of the local and premium brands were $8-$9. Found some local marinara for $5.

Didn’t look for fresh potatoes, but got my store brand southern style diced hashed brown potatoes in frozen. Stock of frozen potato products looked low but there was plenty to choose from.

Cream cheese and cottage cheese section was empty.

Plenty of milk and creams. Caught that at the right time. Got two gallons of 2% with an expiration of Jan 30th!

Meats were well stocked from what I saw, and not cheap. I miss those 1 pound store brand vacuum sealed packs for $4.99.

Once again it was a weird atmosphere. Seemed like there was some urgency to peoples shopping. No one seemed to be in there just getting a few items, it was full carts.

Plan is to not go back for a couple weeks if possible.

I did a small curbside order this morning:

Original amount was $51:
Diet Coke 12 pack cans
Deli chicken (lunchmeat)
Chocolate cookies (fresh)
5 Bananas
2 Avocados
2 Tomatoes
Cross rib roast to make stew (asked for the smallest possible)
Chicken breast (2 pack)
18 Eggs
10# Ice
Dill pickle slices
1# Bacon

only thing they were out of was Diet Coke (12 pack cans) but on the chicken she gave me a family pack with 7 breasts for the same price and the roast I ordered was a cross rib on sale and she gave me a 2 pack for less than the original cost. My bill ended up being only $33.

Oh and I stopped at Walgreen's and got my Frito's LOL. I don't need the huge bag so got a smaller one

Ha! That's why I called it a "grown up" coloring book vs. adult. I'm sure if you look hard enough though you could find one. Or maybe a new business idea??

Joann Fabrics sells them, too.

Annie, I had a tote bag I kept next to my suitcase with several paperback books, yarn, crochet hooks, and several pencil puzzle magazines (and pencils with erasers) with me when I moved.

It's been a whole month, since I was last in town, due to the Rona. I finally felt up to going, today. I just made one stop to do it all, since my energy level still isn't what it once was. Our Walmart was fully stocked. There was only one item that was completely wiped out. That was Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup. I wanted to buy a few cans to restock what we used while sick, but the woman next to me bought the last remaining cans. The meat section looked great, and also, the produce section was full to overflowing. All fresh, too. One big thing I did notice, and that was the increase in prices from just a month ago! Dang! Small town, MS.

Just got back from the weekly shopping.

I stopped at the small independent grocery store because they advertised 25 lbs of white wheat for $8.49. WHen I went in last week, they said it didn't come in and to check next week since it was a 2-week deal. So I went in again today. Again they didn't have it. I was visiting with the owner, a Lebanese Christian who has been here for a very long time. Anyway, he said, "I get 52% of what I order. Just look at the shelves. It's a mess." He hasn't had much of anything in the deli meat section for over a month.

Smith's was a mess today, too. THey were restocking in the middle of the day and even had managers in on the action. The cheap ramen section had maybe 5%. The upper-scale ramen area looked much better. Dairy was spotty and milk was 10 cents more per gallon than last week. I normally can pick up some discounted, short dated yogurt, but haven't seen any for a month. I finally decided to check the cartons. Both brands that I normally get were best-by dated in early December. Eggs were also in short supply. At both stores I saw more turkeys than I saw even at Thanksgiving. Smith's had half a grocery cart full of Almond Roca at 66% off. White vinegar (gallon size) was 50 cents more than last week. They hadn't raised the price on the gallons of ACV, and I bought the last gallon they had. The store brand tortilla chip section was exactly one bag wide. TP and PT looked good. Frozen veggies, which I wanted to get, were non-existent. That freezer section was being repaired. That's all I can remember there.
