CORONA Main Coronavirus thread

They're saying the mortality rate is approximately 2%. I can see that in developed countries, but I believe the rate could go as high as 30% in places without adequate healthcare..

Two percent would still mean 6 million fatalites in the US.

I still have my Baygen hand crank too, made in South Africa by disabled in wheelchairs and absolutely cherish it. My Grundig alas gave up the ghost and was my lifeline dating back to Gulf War 1. It was a fine radio and miss it terribly.

Here is BBC shortwave frequency chart, service to their Commonwealth Nations mostly

C. Crane radio company ( Noory advertises for them as a sponsor of Coast to Coast ) has a pretty solid list of current frequencies, print and save, or take a screenshot etc

WWCR out of Nashville broadcasting tower ( God bless em!!! )

Marine radio frequencies for boaters/coasties

We are going to kick ourselves for this stupidity of pulling our shortwave towers down in favor of wifi streaming instead

Art Bell warned everyone just prior to moving to the Philippines that this was a very bad idea before he died

all terrestrial radio that is web based is dependent, what do we do if Iheart radio goes bankrupt or staff too sick to work?

webstreaming is vulnerable

re Voice of America on their wiki

Shortwave frequencies

By December 2014, the number of transmitters and frequencies used by VOA had been greatly reduced. VOA still uses shortwave transmissions to cover some areas of Africa and Asia. Shortwave broadcasts still take place in these languages: Afaan Oromoo, Amharic, Bambara, Cantonese, Chinese, English, Indonesian, Korean and Swahili.

West Africa broadcasts in English are best bet to pick up in North America

I would love to see it revived here, perhaps POTUS will make radio coms a Civil Defense priority in the future.

alright sorry for drift, back to the topic at hand!

thats actually very much on topic imho. Communications are an essential part of any war effort, this is no different. We have no skills at cyphering out relevant facts on ground, and fewer still at getting the word oyt where it needs to go to actually matter.

I haven't read every page, but so this may be redundant.

I don't think the US has updated its infection numbers since last Monday.

In my opinion, this amounts to not doing anything to slow down or limit infection, and letting the hospitals deal with the fallout. And I don't believe our hospitals can handle the load.

We have put american citizens returning from china into mandated quarantine. That is not nothing, in a free society, especially given the miniscule #s of actual known cases. I also believe the m\w\f updates of CDCs a business as usual situation that predates this corona virus.

I think it's very pertinent; I would just like it to be in a separate thread so it's easier to find and study. If no one else starts one, I'll try to pull one together tonight when I'm home on my computer.

Except the incubation period is now stated as being as long as 24 days...

So, everyone that has been released as cured or not having the flu, needs to be recalled for more testing ( /sarc ). What a FUBAR...

i saw the 24 day mark posited on that last pre-publicized study, but it still held the mean (or median?) to 3+/- days....but yeah, i suppose extending the sigh of relief date by a few weeks is warranted. Don't forget though, this thing was also birthed earlier than we're officially claiming, too...

Glenn Beck talked about it this morning. To make that size of sulfur dioxide expulsion they would have to be burning 14k bodies.....or animal caucuses.
In one of the videos posted on this thread that I watched. They discussed that they might have turned off the scrubbers on the coal fired power plants to try and make the most of their limited supplies since transportation is shut down and no deliveries are being made. This would increase some of the emissions I think, but I am no expert.

The hospitals here in the US are practically over run just with regular flu cases. Imagine adding this to their load.

(Usually try to be optimistic, this is my pessimistic post for the day)
Yes and the current flu doesn't required hospitalization in 74% of the time due to complications. If the China Flu gets a hand hold here and takes off, we are in serious trouble....

This will warm you to the cockles of your heart. British scientists latest spread map. Bear in mind when they went up to the Alaskan permafrost to dig up those 1918 flu victims preserved tissue, that it reached all the way up there too. Spread by birds and spores. The whole planet got exposed to Spanish Flu, similar to the Black Death. This is one of those moments. This is going to be universal Like Chicken Pox, your immune system has to take the initial hit and you must survive it whether its a mild case or severe case. I compare it to your lungs going for a ride thru a short stretch of forest fire with the car windows down, you will breathe in a tiny ember or two and it will leave the inside of your lungs with some 2nd and 3rd degree burn spots, raw and sore. China moving to martial law procedure is message enough that they mean business about the spread.
Not sure what will be the event that triggers our stampede response here, could be seeing firing squad vids on peeps with no masks on in a sub tropical zone or African looting chaos. Its tense here already, folks are edgy, so the shoe will drop soon.

each story gets more alarming and disturbing by the hour

HAZMAT TEAMS ENTERED THE SCORT CLUB AND ISOLATED THE SUSPECTED CASE, IT COULD BE A MASSIVE PANDEMONIUM IF SHE IS CONFIRMED TO HAVE THE VIRUS

re the flight path spread map

"...It was the WorldPop project of the University of Southampton that mapped everything. It used mobile phone location data with apps from Chinese technology company Baidu and international flight schedules to predict how the corona virus might spread between January and April of this year..."

Are you sure about that?

I'm on the record on this thread that I think the 24-day incubation is a scare tactic. That seems very, very long. The additional 10 days almost doubles the thing.
