CRIME Young Black men and teens are killed by guns 20 times more than their white counterparts, CDC data shows

Young Black men and teens made up more than a third of firearm homicide victims in the USA in 2019, one of several disparities revealed in a review of gun mortality data released Tuesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The analysis, titled "A Public Health Crisis in the Making," found that although Black men and boys ages 15 to 34 make up just 2% of the nation's population, they were among 37% of gun homicides that year.

That's 20 times higher than white males of the same age group.

Of all reported firearm homicides in 2019, more than half of victims were Black men, according to the study spearheaded by the Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence and the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence. Sixty-three percent of male victims were Black.

The contrast is even more stark when the rates were compared with white people: Across all ages, Black men were nearly 14 times more likely to die in a firearm homicide than white men, and eight times more likely to die in a firearm homicide than the general population, including women.

Black women and girls are also at higher risk. Black females had the highest risk of being killed by a firearm than females of any other race or ethnicity, and they were four times more likely to be victims than white females.

"Gun violence has for the longest time been a public health crisis in the Black community," said epidemiologist Ed Clark of Florida A&M University’s Institute of Public Health.

At a Moms Demand Action event, gun control advocates protest violence Aug. 5, 2019, in Auburn, Ala.

The gun violence expert said a "holistic approach" is needed to reduce gun fatalities and injuries.

"That should include really viewing gun violence as a public health issue. The business of public health is population wellness – looking at how we can decrease the disease burden or the threat of injury to the population at large," he said. "And gun violence is definitely a problem that should be looked at through that lens."

After Black males and females, American Indian and Alaska Natives were the next highest-risk group, according to the analysis, followed by Latino and Hispanic people.

Most of children and teens up to age 19 who died that year died by firearm, the study found – 1 in 10 deaths in that age group. That's the second-highest total in two decades.

Evidence suggests gun homicides rose "dramatically" last year during the pandemic, the authors said, but because of what they argued is a lack of timely data, "we won't know the full scale of the problem for many months to come."

The emerging data suggests, the authors wrote, that suicides among Black people rose disproportionately, though the study found the majority of all suicide deaths by firearm, 73%, were white males. White men were more than twice as likely to die by a firearm suicide than others.

Sixty percent of all firearm deaths in 2019 were suicides. In total, 39,707 people died from gun violence that year.

"Despite the limitations, gun death data are the most reliable type of gun violence data currently available – but gun deaths are only the tip of the iceberg of gun violence. Many more people are shot and survive their injuries, are shot at but not hit, or witness gun violence," the analysis reads. "Many experience gun violence in other ways, by living in impacted communities, losing loved ones to gun violence, or being threatened with a gun."

I don't really care about guns and suicides. This is a choice someone makes. I do not have the right to interfere with that choice unless they are doing it on my land or in my car.

Notice there are 38800 deaths per year in car accidents, but they won't drop the national speed limit to 10 miles per hour to save lives.

clearly it is White Supremacy and systemic racism
I was wondering if they were making a case for White Supremacy with the article. Who in their right mind says some thing like 2% of the people are the cause of significant damage to society and not expect society to feel that they no longer need that 2%..... in this case they are arguing it is black males......

Some body did not do their job right.

It's quite obviously a racial thing because there's no possible way the other 98% are just smarter with better logic and reasoning abilities.

They will not admit they have a serious black problem, to claim such a statement is racist shows they are part of the problem and not willing to deal with it in an intelligent manner.

Okay, how's this. If that 2% cannot control themselves then that 2% have their right to bear arms taken away permanently. Anyone that is found giving that 2% a gun should be held accountable the same way that an adult giving a minor an illegal substance is penalized ... and since they can't seem to understand it is irresponsible for giving guns to a population obviously mentally and emotionally unable to handle that responsibility, THEY must be unable to handle that responsibility either and then THEY lose their right to gun ownership. That should take care of any pissant activitists.

That 2% are already felons, making them prohibited persons and there is no effective or logical way to determine whom will fall within that 2%,but it's a dandy of a platform for politicians to use as a vehicle for unconstitutional confiscation.

If it is as the op says 2% of the black race that can't control themselves, then we don't have a gun problem it is a condition problem of one race and one age group. Until TPTB will admit that, it will never be solved.

Yes, but they are describing what is most likely 4% of the total population based upon the age range.
So there is a 50% chance they will commit murder at some point between those age ranges.

It is obviously not the guns that are the problem.

Neither here nor there.

I don't think that 2% is getting their guns and ammo legally, ditto those that are giving the guns and ammo to them.

Less than 2% of the population, but the point is moot, it's unconstitutional.

If you give government carte blanche to execute policy, mission creep is soon follows.

It's because African Americans perpetrate the majority of violent crimes and they glorify shooting and killing each other.

well, according to the left-wing talking jackasses, that is irrelevant as whites are likely to be killed by other whites, so who cares? disregarding the FACT that whites are more likely to be killed by blacks than blacks are by whites

but, anyway, shut up you non-woker

Two things I see - first, why is the Center for Disease Control even compiling data like this? Second, why do they not mention the race of the offender? Oh, yes, doesn't fit the plan.....

Gee who is killing them I wonder? Sure isn't white cops. Or for that matters whites at all.

One stat the story skiped over is that the vast, vast, majority of the black decedents were killed by other blacks. It's not a firearms problem: It's a black problem.

100% agree. The facts prove it out....

The highlighted figures above tell the real story!!!!!

Not that this is earthshakingly surprising news, but what in the world is CDC doing messing around in this puddle? The "disease" which causes all these statistics doesn't much seem to be in their realm of expertise.

Can someone say social engineering?

Let's Go Brandon!
Peoples, it is only going to get worse, and you know it.

I remember this happening last year, and it may have been,
on a youtube where I heard it.

Right after some crime statistics were released for Chicongo,
an African member of the Chicongo city council stated,
and I was shocked to hear it, that the gun violence problem in
Chicongo was Africans killing other Africans, and he stated
that it is the same, in all of the other metro areas in the ZUSA.

He caught hell for speaking the truth, and it was not very
long afterwards, that I read on an African blog,
that the crime statistics all across the ZUSA, would have to
be altered, in order for the blame for the inter-city gun violence,
to be shifted over to White peoples.

I cannot remember the African blog, I spend a lot of time on African
centric forums and blogs, simply because they are eventually going to
be in full control of the ZUSA, and it is best to know about,
what is coming.

Remember, by 2030, if not before, the ZUSA will have transitioned
into the next South Africa, and there is nothing, absolutely nothing,
that can be done to stop that transition.

I will most likely be dead by then, and they can have this once
great nation, that cannot never become great again, never.

Please be safe everyone.

Regards to all.

not 2% causing the death, but 2% of the population were the ones deaded at a rate of 37%. of all murders.

so they are trying to make a connection to black men dying and white people. there really isn't one.

they are also saying "gun" killed them. no. someone used a gun to kill them.

now the sticky wicket: who is killing those black men and women in such disproportionate numbers? the data shows it is other black people.

looking at the data that others have supplied from gov databases, there are much bigger issues that need addressing.

Carl2

Pass it forward...
The article is a propaganda piece pushing "gun control" -- no mention is made of the fact that in the USA blacks commit murder at around eight times the rate that "whites" do. I seem to recall also that around one-third of black males aged 15-45 years are imprisoned, so the real rate of homicides is even greater among blacks.

African tribal DNA survival behavior skill sets and hand guns............gee what could go wrong.

I'd like to see that stats on how many guns among Blacks are legally registered .......but then again if they are mostly illegal how could you come up with the stats to begin with? :shr:
