ditto on the 146 route. what a nightmare that was.

I,v read on one of the threads that TXDOT was going to prevent houston traffic from entering counties like Chambers. I have a family member that works for TXDOT and hasnt been able to confirm that for me yet. Even as bad that hwy 146 was, that would really put pressure on Galveston County ecav"ees aw well as the Pasasena/Deer Park/ folks

It seems an impossible task to move as many people in our area out through 146 and not have the problems we had. It was awful. It looked like a war zone literally. People slept in their cars overnight. And those were the ones who left on Wednesday. We were in school on Tuesday, and weren't told until 8pm Tuesday night classes were cancelled. (I'm an elementary teacher) Wednesday was spent preparing my house. Up very very early Thursday morning and left with the rest of our family. When I reached 146, people were having breakfast out on the highway, playing football, etc. What I didn't understand was the southbound side of 146 was still southbound. Never were all lanes changed to northbound as far as I know. But even if they were, there was still the gas problem.

I won't leave my home unless a hurricane is forecasted to hit my area and it's a 5...maybe a 4.

I'm concerned about this hurricane season. The Gulf hasn't really cooled down, I don't think. Who knows what we're in for...my advice is to be prepared.
