I have no problem getting on an escalator going up, but I do have hesitancy getting on one going down. I'm always afraid of ending up standing too close to the edge of the step and then losing my balance and tumbling to the bottom of the stairs. Seeing the stairs take shape going up is easier for me than seeing them going down. I don't know if it is a spatial or distance thing or what. I also have problems when driving by thinking I'm too close to another vehicle or thing when I'm actually quite a distance away from it. I always wanted to drive 18 wheelers, but with that distance thing that's not a good idea! LOL!

I once had an untied shoe lace get caught in an escalator when I was about 5. The situation started to get jiggy until Mom managed to get it to snap the shoe lace apart.

I was getting ready to have an injury occur. In retrospect, it was quite scary.

When I was in school, my church youth group went to Washington D.C.
One of our fellow travelers was an exchange student from Ecuador. He had never seen anything as strange as the escalators. He froze when he realized it was a moving staircase. We had to put 2 people in front of him, 2 in back, and 1 holding his arm beside him. He was beyond nervous.
Later that day he was racing us to it so he could ride it again... when ya know, ya know.

I was scared to death of them when a kid. Afraid I was going to fall and get ground up like hamburger. My granny got me through it. Loved that lady!!

On a Star Trek episode Data and Warf were investigating an ancient space craft and Warf walked into a door. He says this door is defective and reaches for his phaser. Data says wait, I remember something about a latch and then opens the door. I thought it was hilarious.

Years later, when I had gotten accustom to automatic doors, I almost walked into one that as not operating. I wanted to reach for a phaser. :)
