WTF?!? Yet another United Airlines incident........

Hyperbole. Not the same.
I used the word I wanted to. Hyperbolic = exaggerated language. Which is exactly what was happening earlier in the thread.

Sheet metal departing the airplane does not a crash landing make. Heck, you could probably fly that plane in that condition for years, and only suffer a single digit reduction in fuel economy.

On DEI:

Decades ago I had to get out of Zimbabwe quickly. My only immediate option was an Air Zimbabwe flight on a rather ancient Boeing 707.

This was during the early stages of their own foray into DEI / Afirmative Action and just days earlier, an old Rhodesian hand had warned me not to fly Air Zimbas. He had a lot of contacts in the local aviation community and warned me that the maintenance schedules weren't being followed.

As others here have noted, eventually all of the third world ills will trickle into the USA. As we travel farther down the road to our dystopic future, you can expect US airport and airline staff to start warning their own friends and family not to fly certain airlines because of DEI.

Sad business.

25 years old.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that this is JUST A LITTLE bit Maintenance related.
It was a United flight. Is United's bottom line in the black? When airlines are operating in the red one of the things that tends to be cut is maintenance.

At 25 years with some hard miles on her? Maybe metal fatigue?

Boeing has certainly left itself wide open to criticism but in this case the onus is on United. This aircraft being 25 years old has had many 100 hour inspections which are routine and then the more indepth inspections as required under part 135 rules. And they also have to comply with all the airworthiness directives that come through the FAA for the type of airplane and engine configurations, ect.

25 years ago Boeing was a lot more competent than they seem to be today so a number of these recent events have nothing to do with it being a Boeing airframe but more on depot level maintenance done by the particular airline. Small things are happening are not all the unusual in commercial aviation but are getting a lot more attention recently. A small non structural part coming off a plane in flight might not even of made the news a few years ago but times have changed.

And yeah, with airlines focused on the bottom line it isn't unusual to outsource work at times to other shops that are supposedly maintaining the aircraft according to both Boeing and FAA requirements but I would have to be an idiot to assume that somethings which are hard to check aren't just pencil whipped from time to time.

@Profit of Doom ... please stop channeling the old Dennis! It gets tiresome, and is bordering on trolling..
Thanks!

Mark's use of hyperbolic is correct. You can use hyperbole and have that language be described as hyperbolic. Just like using sarcasm could be described as sarcastic.

As to Dennis being a grammar and spelling oriented person, I stand behind him in fighting for clarity in what people are trying to express. I don't think Dennis would support POD's use of incorrect grammatical interpretation to attempt to club Mark. POD is distracting people from the member making a fool of himself on this thread.

It hurts less to admit that you are wrong and move on - the temporary loss of face is outweighed by the respect you earn by demonstrating you ability to take on new facts and learn from them. Looking at you C-man.

Of course the usage of hyperbolic is correct. But it's a stupid waste of bandwidth and is drifting the thread... so let's all stop!

The “enemy” is here. Always has been. Sabotage is their physical wave, following generations of undermining what the Founders intended. Hell, the border is just an open invasion, regardless what those damned traitors in the press and government say. If you’re not preparing to defend yourselves, your families, and your closest PATRIOT friends, give your “toys” and gear to someone with the guts and brains to fight for their own lives…
