Who should have the right to VOTE?

My father has received a government check from the fire department for the last 45 years. He has risked his life, and was even in NY helping during 9/11.

He gave in service to this country through the Navy and through his firefighting, going so far as dragging body parts out of the ruins.

So you are saying that because he is a government employee, he has no right to vote?

repeat it again, working for the dot.gov is not the same as sucking the lifeblood out of the gov.............

I like the property owners test by with some modification. This was proposed some years ago by radio talk show host Neal Boortz: 1. Be a U.S. citizen with proof of same on election day. 2. Not convicted of a felony. 3. EVERYONE that meets 1. and 2. gets ONE vote. 4. Those a net worth (to be determined in advance of election day) of $500k to $1 million get, say THREE votes. 5. Those with a net worth in excess of $ 1 million get FIVE votes. 6. Those with a net worth in EXCESS of $ 1 billion get TEN votes. Not their relatives, just them.

Kind of levels the playing field that way.

I can take an acre and sub-divide it up into 1 sq ft plots and sell votes. That wont work.

Thats not how it works! One person, Citizen with a land Patent = 1 Vote. You don't sell anything and if you have the Patent's to more than one parcel, it does not matter because there is only one of you so you get to cast one Vote only.

Anyone with valid US citizenship should also have the privilege of voting.

As far as religions lying- Abraham lied, so I guess he's out. Right?

I think that in addition to the many good ideas above, we should also include that they may not be felons. And they cannot be dead. just sayin....

Desperado, do you do that on purpose? I was quoting what another poster had posted and you read part of the thread and copy it as if I said it! Talk about being a troll!

It was good enough to send our soldiers to die in Iraq to give every person in Iraq the right to vote but it is not good enough to allow every person to vote in America?

Every person should be allowed to vote. Put a purple inkwell at each polling station and dip the voter's index finger and mark yer ballots.

Every person in America is affected by the actions of that Big Federal Government. Every person in America should have a say in what those actions are.

What irritates me is all of the newly registered voters voting this year just so they can vote for Obama, even though these folks don't know jackspit about politics or anything, or where Obama even stands on big issues, just jumping on the bandwagon. You outta see my neighborhood. In just the little 1/4 mile stretch from the main road to my house, there are 3 yards with Obama signs.

My aunt is working at the polls this week and next week, and she said there has been a LOT of mexican voters coming in.

Requirements to vote (must qualify for atleast three of the first four)
1. High School proficiency exam passed
2. At least 18 or younger if serving in the military
3. Must pay property taxes
4. Be able to pass a basic civics exam
This one is mandatory...
5. Be able to prove your intelligence by being able to operate the d@mn voting mechanism, be it written ballot, computer punch card or electornic touch screen!!!

After reflecting on this past election, I would like to amend #1 to read:
1. High school proficiency exam passed with an emphasis on U.S. history, basic civics AND basic economics.
