Where to buy BORAX in quantity?

Hi, everyone~

Do any of you know where to buy Borax in larger quantities? I have been buying the little boxes from WM for around $3, and I keep thinking there must be a better way.... :)

Thanks for all the wisdom shared here!
Blessings to all,

Hi Polly! I use Borax as well and pay $3 for a 4lb box at my grocery stores. I just did a quick search and found 10 lb boxes and 50 lb boxes but they wanted $15 and $49.50 for each. No bargain there. I'd be interested in a bigger box as well if the price is right.

Poolsolutions talks about buying it from agri supply places in large quantities, but says you don't get better pricing that way, it's just more convenient for those that need a lot of it.

Hmmm... wonder why Borax is so spendy? I just knew that the WM boxes were grossly overpriced! Perhaps not.

If the 4-lb boxes are comparable price-wise, then I suppose it is more convenient to pick them up each time I'm at WM instead of buying in bulk. But, if anyone knows of a more reasonable buy, please clue us all in! :)

Blessings,

I use Borax in the garden and sometimes in my wash, but it takes a long time to go through a box. What are you using it for?

Hi, Gingergirl~

We use it in the laundry and also for general cleaning. I scrub the bathtub, sinks, etc. with it (along with coarse salt) and also use it for general disinfecting & cleaning (I dissolve about 1/4 cup of Borax in hot water and add a few drops of tea tree oil.)

We don't buy commercial "cleaners", as I am chemically sensitive, so the Borax is a lifesaver! I don't go through it terribly fast, just want to have a stock of it put up for hard times.

I use it in my laundry as well and it's amazing how much cleaner my clothes get. I also make salves and creams with herbs. I used to use beeswax and infused herb oils but found I could use an alcholic tincture instead when I add just a pinch or two of borax. The tincture wouldn't blend well till I learned this trick thanks to Christopher Hobbs. It works great!
