;^) What's your favorite thing to cook in the air fryer

Got an air fryer last year and haven't used it but once. In the morning, I plan to make doughnuts (I have the dough rising in the fridge overnight, and I plan on making maple bacon ones) in it. I see people basically warming things up in them - taquitos, pizza, etc - and we don't eat a lot of that. What do you make in yours that is a favorite? I have the air fryer lid for the instant pot.

I want one...I've shopped for one a few times. Both my kids and their wives have them and I've asked lots of questions but I just can't seem to be able to make a decision on which one to get.

I think it would expand our menu a lot but the bottom line is I can't stay interested long enough to invest the time in getting educated. I can't get obsessed like I usually do. I was the same with the instapot. I ended up with two and DIL has them both. Also, I don't have room for an air fryer so I'd have to store it and drag it out. I can come up with a lot of excuses.

I hope someone comes on this thread and inspires me lol.

That's why I got the air fryer lid for the instant pot. I use the instant pot quite a bit (it kinda took the place of using my pressure cooker on the stove), and i didn't want another appliance taking up real estate on the counter (which is precious enough as it is). I'll let ya'll know how the doughnuts turn out!

Interesting...can you share what lid you purchased? I use a ninja air fryer oven and an instant pot. Never heard of that lid thingy?

Something I've been cooking is slicing up 2 chicken breasts, coating them in 1-2 tbsp of oil, then coating them with bread crumbs and baking in the ninja oven. Tastes great and very little oil needed.

My air fryer was a gift from one of my DD's who seems to delight in gifting me with small electrical appliances. I don't use it very often either because it takes up too much space to leave it sitting on the counter and we rarely eat "fried" food. It's storage spot is on a shelf in the basement and it's a pain to haul upstairs. One thing I do like to use it for is making fried zucchini. I generally follow this recipe:

Mine is one of the old school versions, given to me by someone who was taking it to goodwill because they want to buy a bigger one.

It does a pretty darn good job in chicken thighs, French fries, odds and ends.
Chicken breasts are nasty and rubbery though lol
Thighs turn out just like fried chicken!

It was a 100% Godsend when our oven went out in October , I’ll tell ya!
Six weeks with no oven and you’ll figure out lickety split, just how much the oven means to you!
The basket thing in mine is too small but it was free, soooo.

I used it to toast bread and also make those Pillsbury biscuits too.
You can play around with one and see how things will work for you; they’re pretty forgiving little machines with quite a few options.

About those things taking up space, I have 3 gizmos on my counter; my air fryer, my instapot and my Ninja creami, due to how much use they get. I almost never use my oven anymore.
I use those 3 so much they just live on my counter.

I might get one of those lids.
Yesterday I made coconut fried shrimp in my big fryer (a gourmia) and cooked up a side of potato wedges in the smaller one.
Since they are so versatile and spare me from using the oven, I am using them more and more.
The only thing I can see using the oven for a is for a turkey.

My DD gave me one 2 years ago for Christmas. I rarely use it. It makes great potato wedges, but that's all I am comfortable making.
I could use direction and recipes .
There are several air fryer cookbooks cheap on Amazon Kindle.

We removed our toaster oven and replaced it with the air fryer. It does anything the toaster oven could do with no problem.

The main things I air fry are fries and corn dogs. I use it to bake canned biscuits regularly and to make toast. I recently bought a couple of the silicone dishes for air frying. I used one for reheating Thanksgiving leftovers for my youngest son when he was here recently. Used it as a convection oven. I've also air fried frozen egg rolls and frozen cheese sticks. I've baked frozen soft pretzels and take and bake monkey bread from Papa Murphy's Pizza.

I will try some recipes from the two air fryer cookbooks I got after we get moved. My wife is wanting to make jerky with the dehydrator mode on it.

I spent a good deal of time after my last post, researching air fryers and this time I didn't quit until I had a better understanding of air fryers and how they might improve my life. After I'd absorbed all I could stand for a while, I did a little shopping but probably won't make a final decision until later next week. Sometimes I like to think about my decision for a few days plus I'm having a hard time deciding.

I started with this video, rewatched a few segments of it and then watched a couple more of hers before moving on to a different reviewer. After that I proceeded on to Amazon and found a list of the best sellers on Amazon. I'll post the best sellers list first followed by her video that I watched first.

Edited to add: The most important thing seems to be the number of watts with 1700 being a good number.

Been cooking and baking since I was 5 and learned to make homemade fudge (including the 20 min of beating to finish) and bread at 5. I’m so old-school I don’t even have a food processor. But have cooked in air fryer at my sister’s (fresh halibut breaded w/panko and Asiago). And at son’s in Florida - their fam of 5 cook family dinners 98% of the time and rely on air fryer a lot. It sure does help speed things up for delicious veg (Brussels sprouts!) and quick chicken recipes!

But I’m no longer in a rush….so will continue cooking up here as usual including over open fire - but fun to use the new things when I visit.

Fresh halibut chunks, breaded with Panko and grated Asiago would work with any fresh white fish….use good butter to finish!

I'm on my 4th air fryer and like this one best.
(2nd and 3rd ones broke)
I have a Corsori Dual Blaze Air Fryer and cooked quite a variety of things that turned out great.
Chicken breast and wings, pork chops, fish, baked potatoes, roasted cauliflower and broccoli.
And Lots more good stuff.

I invested in an excellent cookbook; Delicious Air Fryer Recipes by Samantha Lynn with 130+ recipes for this fryer.
Previously, one that I had was a Cuisinart Air Fryer/Toaster Oven.
I never could get temps and times figured out.

The reviewer in the video posted above liked that one too. It's on my very short list.

Edited to add...thanks for your feedback!

I got the air fryer lid because I already had the instant pot, and didn't want another whole appliance. I have limited counter space too (I dont' know what I'd do without my island that DH made from a smaller dining table and put casters and shelving in it). The microwave, my kitchenaid mixer and instant pot live on the counter. Anything else gets stored until needed.

Have an air fryer; heated up a couple frozen fruit pies. Heated up some biscuits; but they didn't cook all the way through; gooey in the middle. It now sits on a shelf with other baking utensils. I like doing things in the oven; don't mind the wait.

Have heard of taking canned biscuits, making a hole in the center, and frying them.

I'll be honest, I mostly use it for biscuits at the BOL. I don't have one at our main house. I also like to do potato skins in it.

I reheat pizza ... mostly for hubby because to be honest cold pizza is a favorite of mine for breakfast ... or was when I could afford to have it without the carbs freaking my glucose out.

It is also good for potato cakes ... you know those hashbrowns things.

Essentially I use it for a lot of things that I am trying to cut down the grease on. And it helps when it is just hubby and I.

When I did the doughnuts, I tried to do 2 layers (the air fryer has a rack thing to it that holds them apart). Teh ones on the top were good, but the ones underneath had to be cooked longer. When you use it for fries, or whatever, can you layer them?

From all the research I've done in the last few days, I'd say, not really but you can slightly crowd them but I haven't put any of that to the test. I do know they usually take the basket out and shake it halfway through the cooking time. I finally pulled the trigger on one today and it is suppose to be here Thursday. The channel on the video I posted above has some good recipes. I learned a good bit just watching her compare air fryers.

This is what I finally chose for a few reasons, for one, this one was on sale at a good price. I was torn between the Cosori and Instant brands. I didn't want to pay a lot because I've got a feeling this one is just a starter fryer and the Cosori Dual I wanted was out of stock almost everywhere, literally overnight. I was worried there may be a problem.

This one is hard to find. It is narrower and deeper than the standard models giving me a basket that is oblong instead of square, has great wattage for the square inches and I can lay a whole strip of bacon out straight. This model is usually only ever produced in the UK so I had no idea that footprint even existed here. I'll be updating as soon as I try it out!
